Updated 4/5/19 - A new version with 3-D trees is now available. BSA only. SSE users should extract said bsa and convert meshes to SSE with nifoptimizer. - Core files and billboards are available for the 3-D version for those using TES5LODGen or DynDOLOD
- as always install only one main file - this mod only replaces vanilla trees and does not add new trees. - future update will make corrections to any poorly placed trees, remove or adjust floating moss, and add beehives and clutter to some trees
More changes and updates to this mod are in the works, mostly for the version with 2D trees:
- I am working on a version with all green pines mixed with dead trees (similar to the old Dark Fantasy Overhaul) - the types of trees in the updated version will be mostly vanilla to have a more nordic look - 3D LODS
Not sure if you're still active here, but would it be ill advised to switch tree mods mid playthrough? I'm currently using another tree mod that only replaces the mesh, but I'd like to switch to this one when I begin Dawnguard. Would doing this cause problems on my save? I love your mod and would rather just stick with it if I had to choose.
@mobiusbelmont, I have a working SSE port for my personal list. Would it be permissible to post this on the Nexus Skyrim Special Edition site for others to download? I will reference this original mod and provide you with full credit.
Hi, just wanna let you guys know that you can port this mod easily yourself with SSE NIF OPTIMIZER. Here is how i did it:
1. Download SSE NIF OPTIMIZER (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/4089) 2. Download or use your existing BSA extractor to extract the files from this mod's bsa. I'm using BSA BROWSER (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/1756)
3. Merge the extracted bsa into the same folder as this mod (I'm using MO 2) or to your Data folder. 4. Run SSE NIF OPTIMIZER on the MESHES and TEXTURE (idk if texture is necessary but i just did it) 5. Done! You can now convert the plugin from form 43 to 44 via CK, or optimize the textures for more performance with OCTAGON (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/28773)
The original Dark Fantasy overhaul changed some pine models to dead ones, added realistic aspens (orange and red colors as well as higher res textures), a few shrubs and some really amazing grass. I think the snowy pines were unchanged.
My overhaul only touches trees but adds a greater variety of dead and leafless trees, including replacing all the aspen trees. The red pines version features pines with red needles and less dead trees. The green pines version is the closest thing to the old Dark Fantasy Overhaul. The 3D tree version is what I use as I have a newer PC and it is very demanding on old potatoes.
See my previous post. I guess I was a little unclear. In addition to my EVT question, I was trying to say that after I figured out my texture path issues, the red pines version still had green needles. When I looked at the actual needles texture file (treepineforestbranchcompd.dds) in the bsa, the needles were green. I had to photoshop them to red to get the red needles.
Can I use this with the Enhanced Vanilla Trees mod? Thanks.
Edit: Tried the red pines w/billboards version, and my trees are still green, but the LODs are red.
Edit: Unpacked the .bsa that came with the mod, opened up a pine in nifscope, tree rendered without any textures. Can't find any textures that match the texture path for the red pine.
Update: treepineforestbranchcompd.dds is green. Is this right?
You would have to recolor the EVT textures in photoshop and also make billboards if you want the pines to have high res textures. Or you can install EVT over top of this and maybe use some of the billboards from EVT to regenerate the tree LOD, which will give you green trees with matching distant ones and their corresponding high res textures
