My preferred HUD setup is no enemy markers, names or health and no undiscovered locations. Just simple things, and all of this can be achieved with this one handy tool. On top of that I use a mod called Compass Marker Range to get the discovered location icons to appear from a more realistic distance away when I can actually see the place as it pops up on the compass.
I feel like this combination gives a very balanced mix of immersion and discovery, the way you find landmarks and it feels like you've discovered something new. And from a sight distance away you can identify that "oh I've been there" without having to look at the map. Others might argue that it's better to just get rid of the compass entirely but I've tried that, and to me it just makes Skyrim feel like a sandbox map with no point. There's no real drive to start exploring. Unless you've never played the game before I suppose but it feels much more satisfying with the discovered location markers since it's essentially your character's memory of the land. That's what bothered me about seeing undiscovered locations automatically. It makes no sense for them to know every single landmark there is before ever finding or even hearing about them.
Anyway, thanks for the mod. If it wasn't for this I'd probably still be messing around with other way too complex and unstable mods for the sake of a few simple tweaks.
I can confirm. I actually observed in windows' explorer at the map.swf. When i hit apply on Compass Tuner, the file modified time changed. That file is used by Mod Organizer, and yet the changes aren't there ingame. Can see all the markers in compass even though i set them disabled. Actually after trying it ingame the tool fails to start anymore.
I hid the compass using an INI tweak (changing bShowCompass to 0) And for the map, I used the utility on the original game files, then copied the map.swf file into the SE folder (data/interface)
Is there any way to return the old map? I get no descriptions on the bottom line and the errors the author mentions. Appearantly it is not an easy uninstalling mod.
I finally have a decent computer set up to play Skyrim with all the HD texture packs, and my number one must have mod is no longer supported? I really hope the mod author takes it up again, as I haven't found a single other all encompassing mod like this one.
hey man i need ask you something. When i was started using compass tuner it removed level uptade, arrows counts and messages about something one handed increased or xxx discovered. I don't know how can i do this and i want to do it again and because i was reinstalled skyrim but i'm absolutely sure compass tuner have to do about that but how can i do ?
For everyone who has sneak indicator displayed despite an off option I found a solusion(only for those who play without any hud elements displayed, but showing up only when they regenerate):1.delete file named "hudmenu.swf" located in interface folder 2.go to skyrim compass tuner and tick "display shout meter" and "display shout indicator". Doublevil thanks for great mod ,hope you'll find a couple of hours to fix this issue.
