**Update - Version 1.1**
I am happy to announce that a new version has just been released! It allows you to combine soul gem fragments into petty gems as well as convert gems in batches.
In order to utilize the soul gem fragments, it was a little tricky. Since the soul gem fragments are five separate objects in the game, my mod automatically converts them to one fragment when you first load the game and any subsequent fragments you pick up in the world in order to use them in the forge.
My next update will most likely include emptying / transferring souls from soul gems. I will probably split this into a separate version somehow because depending on how I implement it, it may add a lot of entries in the forge and users may not like that.
Warnings
I have noticed that occasionally, the loading screen was freezing for a couple seconds (rarely up to 5 seconds) before launching into the game. If you experience this issue, please leave a post and I will look at improving it. I am not sure if it was because of the other mods I was using or the testing I was doing but I want to make sure I provide the best experience to the people who use this mod.
I have also noticed that if you switch between the two different versions, it could cause the mod to break and not convert the fragments into the single fragment to use in the forge. Again, if you experience this issue, please leave a post and I will work on fixing it.
Basic Details
This is my very first mod and I am going to be rolling out updates step by step on changes I want to make so keep your eyes peeled!
Currently, my mod does not allow you to convert to Black Soul Gems. I figured that since Grand Soul Gems are exactly the same minus the humanoid bit, I am leaving them out. I will definitely put them in if enough people request it but the recipe will be slightly different than the lower soul gems.
Versions
There are two different versions, one with the ability to combine only empty soul gems and the other one can be used if you want to combine filled soul gems with each other as well.
How to Use
All you have to do is go to any forge and go to the Misc tab to see the recipes. I left it pretty simple at this point, 2 -> 1 for every recipe (Petty, Lesser, Common, Greater, Grand).
Issues with the mod
If you see any issues with the mod or any enhancements you think would be beneficial, please feel free to let me know and I will mention you in the release notes when the update comes out. :)

+ Change the recipes to be in the enchanter instead of the forge.
