Late reply but maybe it will help someone else in the future: Ultimately, it is best to read the request and ensure that who you're supposed to pickup from and deliver to are named NPCs that will still be around, be they from Skyrim or other mods. Missives can select any NPC that is added into the game even by other mods. This includes NPCs that may not exist yet or are locked away in areas that are tied to quest stages. It can also select NPCs that cannot engage in dialogue with the player (rival relationship, busy, or just not designed with dialogue topics). NPCs can also die and no-name NPCs, like Farmers and Miners, can despawn or be recycled before you get to them. Finally, check other lands like Solstheim, if you have any installed.
For anyone! One thing to remember is to SAVE before you hit the board, simply walk up to the board and 'Quicksave' then pick a mission, that way you don't break your playthrough... and if you don't like the mission reload and pick a different one!
Can't access the board anymore... My guy reaches for it, but NOTHING happens... I've been here like five minutes just trying to touch the board on different locations... Nothing is working.
Many missions is broken where you shall retrieve something, you get the mission in the quest log but no quest marker on map and when you have retrieve the item the quest is still active in the quest log after you have given the item to the owner
Any specific ones in mind? I ask because I'm doing these things constantly and if I have to watch out and take extra care then a heads up goes a long way. I see the 'no quest marker' as more of a challenge than a problem... unless of course the recipient is dead when you get there, that can be a bind (not keen on 'FAILED' myself) and the object of desire is the other side of a 'quest locked' door.
If you can* make a save before taking the mission from the board, then, enjoy the gameplay and if you have a problem... reload and pretend it was all just a daydream (like when Bobby Ewing came back to life in Dallas)
*If you can, as in some folks have a no reload policy!
I've cleared out GWW many times and I get paid every time (it's treated as a Jarl mission so you know where to go to get paid) it's always listed in the journal and it clears up the 'paper' notice when done, I also run Notice board and it runs smoothly with Missives alongside, however it does deal with Skyrimwide (Province) missions rather than countywide (Hold) missions of Missives.
I have on occasions taken a pile of missions from different sources for the same area, perhaps 'Kill the Beast' 'Clear out xxx' 'find my Pendant', perhaps even 'the Jarl has put out a Bounty' too, all in the same cave and get paid for each one... which is nice!
The difference between the two mods (besides poster location as I alluded to earlier) is that the Notice board requires you to 'read' the mission brief before it goes in your journal and Missives automatically initiates it on 'plucking' it from the board.
I always Save before addressing any board, that way I can drop back if it goes wrong, I certainly wouldn't drop either of those mods from my load order as they're far to precious.
One of the important things to remember is that the Quests need to be highlighted as active on both Miscellaneous and Quest name (Clear out/Return to) headings... (if you already knew that don't be offended... other players might not know)
When you take this mission you get the quest in the quest tab but you don't get any map marker, after you clear out the cave from trolls the game don't recognize the quest as done and it is still a active quest.
...and yes i know that i need to higlight both Miscellaneous and Quest name, have been playing Skyrim sins it was released
Nah, works fine... just tested it and screen shott'ed each stage, Markers are there and quest clears as it should, I guess you have a conflict with something else. Do you want the screenies?
The "no quest marker on map" problem usually means that you simply don't have access to the map in question yet. This happens because the quest takes place in another worldspace entirely.
You probably have a mod that adds a new worldspce, like Falskaar, Wyrmstooth, Midwood Isle etc., or even the Dragonbnorn DLC itself, and the quest marker won't appear on the map until you have access to the place where it happens. Once you go there and unlock the Map Arrow (which Fast Travels to that worldspace in question), then the map marker will point you to that arrow, indicating that the quest takes place outside Skyrim.
TL;DR Missives do try to make you go questing outside of the country before you even got access to it, yes. Be observant on what do you accept.
I'm asked to clear out Bleakcoast Cave near Winterhold. It's usually inhabited by frost trolls,, but there's a quest marker that's empty and no frost trolls in sight. What to do?
I had to slay a vampire and then go to a Vigilant. But when I defeated the vampire, I was lead to the Hall of the Vigilant...where everybody is already dead. Was someone supposed to spawn or is this task bugged?
Some of these are just not to well I think, like when you go back to one you sposed to they act like , who are u type, even with an marker over them, or sometimes I think they're really random ? when you open your map, is the marker pointing to the same spot ?
The quest marker is a problem, yeah. There are never any alive at the hall. Instead I turn these quests into the Vigilants of Stendarr that can be found travelling the roads between holds, or go to Stendarr's Beacon behind Riften where a number of them hang out. I've not encountered a Vigilant yet that will not allow me to turn a completed vampire quest into them.
Using this mod with Skyrim Together Reborn to play with my wife, but the boards are empty for us. They showed missions at the start of our game session though. What are we doing wrong?
OK so was trying this out again and now i did get a quest to retrieve a stolen heirloom in White River Watch, so i did get the sword and was told to give it to Terek in Whiterun. When i get there he is inside the empty and closed up Breezehome???, i can't give him the sword due to that the door is locked and can only be opened with a key!
I suspect you have RDO or another mod that restores Terek to the game? Terek is a cut NPC that was supposed to live in Breezehome just to be an annoyance that wouldn't leave unless you killed him.
Stami is right about terek, it just needs you buy breezehome with the mod for i you have installed , first couple of time is funny, when you find terek, and he wont leave ur home, you can go to , Adriana's father, complain about it, anbd he will come back with you and force terek out .. Or you and terek can come to some sort of agreement and let terek stay there , kinda like a house keeper ? You should be able to give him the item after that ..
I just had a quest where I was supposed to return some stolen jewelry to Lygrleid, one of the ship's crewmen in Windhelm. Problem is, when I tried to talk to him, all I got was generic dialogue about "talk to the captain" or "the Northern Maiden's the finest ship..." and whatnot. I could not actually open a dialogue to tell him that I had his item ready for return.
What you need to do is (I found in the past) is take a trip to Solstheim and present it to him there... I did that with a letter, there's two of them you see, they don't actually travel. It's been a long time since I played, but I think I remember rightly.
Needed gold in Eastmarch. Took a potion delivery job to Kynesgrove. The client was Nurelion who was dying in bed, couldn't get the delivery potion. Took a thief tracker instead, pointing at Whiterun. No thieves spawned at any inn. Changed to vampire hunt, random NPC had killed it before taking the missive so I got immediate free gold.
Yup, free gold is always good but listen, the best thing to do with any questline that uses a random giver and a random recipient isSave before taking it, If it's to some Orc smith and they don't let you through the gates, or it's to a dead/dying guy that's given up talkin, or in the back of a high level index related quest cave or dungeon... think it through, can you really deliver the goods? none of us really like to see 'FAILED' on our list Save first then look at the quest board, and always remember it's a mod based of randomness so sometimes it's gonna drop the ball.
But it is useful early game funding and later game fun too... well I still do them at lvl 30 if my dude's still alive (Yeah, habitual restarter)
No, I'm nowhere near talented enough, but the save bit is really one of those things that you can't do too much in Bethesda games. As for my 'support?' to other players... I just like folks to be able to enjoy mods and if I know something that might help... then, yeah, I mouth off!

Well i use another mod now, The Notice Board and this one works just fine and you also have notice boards in smaller towns to with this mod.

The 'localized' idea is great. And the MCM.
It's been a long time since I played, but I think I remember rightly.

Anyway. I just had fun with the hijinks and was sharing it.
