Just a quick note for anyone that may want to open the arrows in 3DS Max, DO NOT weld the vertices on import and export of the .nif. The flights(feathers) is a plane that was cloned then had the faces flipped in the clone. If you weld vertices no matter how you set the weld it will mess them up. So detach the flights then weld the rest of the arrow in Max then reattach the flights and make your changes. The reason I did that instead of making it use double sided texture is because of the lighting/shadows don't work properly with double sided textures. Hair models and some plants also use that trick so if the model uses planes don't weld on import and check the plane in Max to see if it is 2 planes with the faces in opposite direction.

*Edit, Reminder for myself, read this sticky. You wrote it and still welded the vertices... Idiot. lol

At first and foremost I really like the design of these weapons and I think you greatly improved your modeling and texturing skills since you started to make weapon mods.

And I know this sounds a little bit pedantic but in my opinion the handles of some of these weapons need to be resized. The handles of the battleaxe, warhammer and waraxe e.g. look like toothpick ;-)

But again: really great design! I fell in love with the quiver.

Thank you for sharing your work!

Toothpick huh? Take a look at any Dane Axe you can buy to chop melons or zombie go boom heads in your backyard. Sized about the same as mine. They do look thin but real ones from the middle ages were like that and reproductions today are as well. You would think they would be thicker and be right to think so but they were not and so I made mine with realism in mind.

usually narrow with a wide, asymmetrical base. The kris is famous for its wavy blade; however, the older types of kris dated from the Majapahit era have straight blades, as do more than half of all kris prior to the modern era.

A Kris is just one example, wavy blades are found in many other regions during many time periods such as a flamberge which is a European Great sword. Theres even a middle east sabre with the cutting edge having waves.

It is nice having the swords with realistic blade shapes! Anywho I don't begrudge your lack of knowledge, this type of blade isn't as well known as straight/curved and certainly not the most used style in the real world but is quite popular in fantasy games or movies. So thinking it is pure fantasy is forgivable.

The wave shape adds more cutting ability when using a draw cut rather than a normal swing cut. A draw cut is where you swing the blade until it makes contact then pull the blade across, a swing cut you keep the swing going when you make contact. The waves and draw cut work better against armor such as a gambeson. A gambeson is many layers of cloth and can stop a normal swing cut. How it stops the cut is by absorbing the force and the fibers being flexible enough to not instantly be cut through to allow the many layers to absorb. Then to stop the cut as the layers compress they gain hardness as will any material if you compress it. Then cloth is surprisingly cut resistant when the cutting edge is flat against it. This is because the cloth fibers will roll under the edge unlike something like skin, or muscle tissue. Take an old pair of jeans, turn inside out for a smoother surface like a gambeson would have, then take a chefs knife(not serrated) put the jeans on carpet and the blade edge straight onto it and draw the blade across. You will scratch the cloth. Now use the blade at a 45 degree angle and it will start as a scratch but eventually cut through as you draw it because the fibers are being hit from the side and wont roll. That's the wavy blades advantage, those waves act as multiple blades cutting at an angle and fibrous material like a gambeson are not well suited for protecting against them.

Hey thanks for that info, Jet. I've seen wavy blades in different weapon packs, but had no idea they were "real" blades, or why they would have been shaped that way if they were. Today I also happened to read the description of mod 84992, a Keris blade from Indonesia. One of the comments was made by a person who was familiar with how the blade was made to end up with the wavy blade shape.

Fascinating stuff! Who knew that a person could learn so much by playing a game?

edit: also, beautiful weapons - thanks for sharing them with us

Incredible weapons, magnificent details yet simple and elegant. I'm not one for the heavy fantasy stuff with bows that look like a bazooka or final fantasy like swords. I always keep an eye out on the last mods, and a lot of modders for armors and weapons today do not get the attention they deserve. Thank you a lot for your work, the bow and arrows will be on my back for the next playtrough, and the other weapons will kindly wait on the walls of my house so i can have a bit of eyecandy while i get the revenue from my fugly spouse :p

Ones on a rock above the trail just before the watchtower, the other is on above and on the left as you exit the backdoor and requires some jumping on rocks to get to it.

Heres my thoughts... holding something that is worthless ransom for extra work is insulting and kinda stupid. If instead of holding worthless stuff for ransom he instead said he would "greatly appreciate it", or "love you long time".. sure I probably would've added one. But... Not going to happen.

Speaking of staffs if Bethesda had added the ability to fully craft magic staffs I would've added one to the mod without needing to be asked. But I sure as hell am not adding the dozens of spell variation versions of a staff. Each one is it's own weapon. Something that would've been a great addition to the game for non magic characters could've been the ability to craft a "blank" staff and hire a mage to enchant it with whatever spell you want on it or if your character is a mage that could be a perk granting the ability to enchant staffs. A blank or an enchanted staff that ran out of magicka could be used as a melee weapon.

There's a staff enchanter that enchants blank staves in Dragonborn with various different enchantments.
I get what you mean though and respect you not doing it on principle.

There is this scrip that will work with oldrim, though it can be somewhat odd, or even completely not work, but it does work sometimes,

Indeed. Of course, the only place you could enchant said staves vanillla-wise is Solstheim, in Tel Mithryn. Not sure if some would like to go to Solsthiem, travel to the south-east corner of the island and kiss Neloth's you-know-where (as well as buying the unenchanted staves from him, the ONLY way you could get a blank staff, at least without mods) just to start making enchanted staves.

OK finishing up a new dwarven weapon set and I made a staff too. Thought I would make a blank staff because the mod would already require Dragonborn DLC. Bethesda in all their great decision making chose to make each magic school a different blank staff and a crafting recipe for each spell and a staff for each finished product. They didn't make a copy of the enchantment system for staffs or add keywords into said system so any blank staff can be enchanted at a staff enchanting station just like any sword at any regular enchanting station but staffs cant be enchanted at the regular stations and weapons or armor cant be done at the staff station. So instead of 1 staff in the CK with the proper keyword I need 1 blank for each school and 1 version for every spell that can be enchanted, then I need crafting recipes for each one of those.

f*#@ that crap purple and pink till ya puke. If it was the vanilla enchanting system with a keyword then no worries, ill bang that right out. 30+ versions of the same thing with a name and 2 pull down menu choices different? And crafting recipes ontop... That's a couple hours of complete and absolute boredom hoping the CK doesn't crash and forgetting to save then the CK will crash making you repeat part of the work.

As for anyone requesting a blank staff from any modder(already made a staff) to use in the Dragonborn DLC.. average pay for contract game design is $50ish per hour depending on the contract. If you request it and the modder makes it and fully functional... hit their donation button and send them $200 for the CK work. If it's an all new staff... figure 6 to 8 hours modeling and texturing a basic version and 3+ hours in the CK at $50 per hour.

You are forgetting the cost of a hair transplant surgery, after pulling all your hair out using the "save if I feel like it, add unintended changes, going to surprise crash now" CK.
