First, thanks for the improvement of the Candlelight spell for first person players! Since a few days the "Skyrim Particle Patch for ENB" by Mindflux (available here http://enbseries.enbdev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1499 ) also contains an edited version of the lightspellactorfx.nif. It would be great if you could offer a version that contains your changes and Mindflux changes to provide compatibility for the newest ENBs.
Such a simple mod that Bethesda could not fix at all. 7 years with Vanilla Candlelight in 1st person and now I have finally found a fix, Thank you kind person for this mod.
I noticed that in 1st person the light wanders from left to right, and because of that you only have the full light effect 50% of the time. Is this something you also noticed ?
Yes it can wander around usually from rotating the camera or moving forward. On SSE I'm playing with the PRT enb and I found it is darker, I think this could be from the eye adaption features that are sensitive to the added light and darken the image.
I've been playing around with this and I think if your ENB is making it darker, you would need to move the sprite even farther away from the camera and further reduce the lag. I'm still doing tests so I'm not going to release anything soon, but you could easily edit in those values with nifskope if you want to tweak it right away.
I'd recommend to start with 45 for the Y Translation and 15 for the Maximum Distance. Just see the two nifskope images and the "Conflicts?" area in the mod description on how do to this. Keep in mind that doing this will make the sprite "even more in your face", which can be annoying at times, but some could find it immersive too. So its really just a guess and check process until you get it where you want.
Hello again, I just added a new file that uses the more extreme values, the settings are different than my original guess but it should fix your issue.
I still have a problem with candlelight. This did, fix the issue, but, I must have made some changes because now, I have a huge problem with light in my face(again), and night vision becoming all washed out. Depending on terrain, I can get down to 0% visibility. I tried both settings, and same result. Like duben, I also use snowfall enb.
That stupid glow effect is also a vision killer. There is another fix that removes that entirely, but, unfortunately, it also removes all candlelights well..light. I have to turn off ENB entirely, but that makes the 'night' vanilla artificially bright. it modifies 4 nifs, vs 1. If looks awesome in my ENB, except for the fact it literally throws no usable light anymore lol.
I use: Enhanced camera 1.4 with Fneardistance override = off Customizable Camera The mesh from here
Somewhere I know there is a solution, but between EC, CC, this, and the ENB, I don't even know where to start...
This mod depends on the glow effect to add the light so removing it would make this mod pretty much useless. However you could remove the glow and then find a mod that increases the magelight light source intensity, so you get light without the in your face effect. I increase the light amount in my own personal patch esp because I find that I always have to tweak it to my own ENB and preferences. The light you would edit is MagicLightLightSpell01 and Torch01 if you want to edit torches too, and you would increase the radius and lower the fade value for more intensity.
But because you mention terrain affecting it, I think your issue could be the grass. I had this problem and someone told me that you can fix this by turning off shadows for grass and it worked really well for me. To do this, in SkyrimPrefs.ini set bShadowsOnGrass=0 this is a setting that is also recommend by the creator of Verdant grass. Hope this all helps!
Thanks for the reply. What I ended up doing, was giving up on candlelight entirely, and went with wearable lanterns, lol. If I were a non-enb user, and, had little in way of light mods and so on, your fix would likely suffice all on its own. At least magelight is still useable. Candlelight is fair to say, like a lot of things bethesda does, never implemented correctly to begin with. I've stuck with it all this time, but, lanterns = no more light problem.
You have a good eye! Its actually a level mod I'm working on, I thought it would be fun to tease it here. I'm hoping to release it soon, just doing testing/polishing on it now.

Jokes aside, well done. ^_^ This definitely helps.
(Using snowfall enb)
