Face a trial of ancient Nordic warriors and prove your worth. This mod adds a new dungeon and a unique weapon.

Ancient lays tell of a place, Qothmaar, lost to history where ancient Nordic warriors underwent a ritual to prove their worth to the dragon priests. Only now has the Bards College uncovered the clues that lead to Qothmaar, and its trials await to test if you are truly a hero worthy of remembrance.

The Qothmaar Ritual Dungeon mod adds a brand new Nordic ruin to the game intended for characters of 30-50th level, where you can pit yourself against a trial that was undertaken by ancient Nordic warriors. The dungeon contains several dragon-language-related puzzles and a unique climactic encounter that will test your prowess. Your reward is a one-of-a-kind sword with a powerful enchantment.

GETTING STARTED

You can find the College's research on Qothmaar on Farengar's desk in Dragonsreach, or in the first-floor library of the Bards College in Solitude. Otherwise, you can choose to visit the ruin directly by exploring the region south of Dawnstar. Qothmaar was meant to test the Thu'um of the ancient Tongues, so if you have not yet proven yourself Dovahkiin, you may find these ruins very difficult to traverse.

REQUIREMENTS

This mod only requires vanilla Skyrim, and isn't dependent on any DLC's or other mods.

CONTENT

This mod adds the following new content:

  • Qothmaar, a medium-sized Nordic ruin (15-45 minutes of gameplay)
  • Dragon-language related puzzles
  • Unique, puzzle-driven boss encounter
  • 2 Books
  • New weapon with a unique enchantment

CHANGELOG

Version 0.52
  • Players with the Light Foot perk in the Sneak tree can now trigger the pressure plates in the boss chamber.
  • Significantly reduced boss health from 2940 to 2040 at level 50, and from 1540 to 1340 at level 30. This should make the encounter less grueling at lower levels or higher difficulties.
  • To compensate, slightly shortened the Ritual power duration from 9s to 8s.
  • Added a message to the chain puzzle so players clearly know when they're successful.

Version 0.51
  • The claw puzzle door now correctly states the required item when it's missing from the player's inventory. Previous it indicated the Ebony Claw was required.
  • The Nordic heads by the chain puzzle should now correctly display the dragon runes associated with each chain. The folder the custom mesh appeared in was originally misnamed, causing the model to not be displayed in-game. If you have downloaded version 0.5, this can be manually fixed by navigating to your Skyrim install and moving the mesh files located in Skyrim\Data\meshes\dungeon\nordic\clutter to Skyrim\Data\meshes\dungeons\nordic\clutter.
  • Adjusted the wooden planks on the final jump so they can be reached consistently.
  • Fixed a seam between the upper catacomb and the connecting hallway.
  • Fixed an issue where NPC's and physics from Shouts or spells could trigger the plates in the boss chamber.
  • Adjusted NavMesh in the boss chamber to prevent potential problems where enemies could get stuck in certain spots.

KNOWN ISSUES

  • Zunkruziik's special effect doesn't consistently enable Shouting when the Shout timer has expired.

The current version of the mod is intended for playtesting and is not a final release. This is also my first "major" mod. I appreciate any feedback you may have and hope you enjoy playing!
