A lot of people are confused about the Civil War in Skyrim. That's OK.

The Civil War questline can go nowhere at all unless you join one side or the other, and you do not have to. The game won't force you to, ever. You can play all the way through the main quest without joining the Legion or the Stormcloaks, and the Civil War cannot and will not advance on its own.
BUT those pesky journal entries will not go away unless you join a side (or use a mod like this to remove them). Also, you would not be able to buy Hjerim or become Thane of Eastmarch or ever see Ice Wraith Bane potions (the potions are no big whoop unless you are a completionist), and you will also not be able to access Korvanjund, wherein are some unique things like the Hall of Stories and the Ebony Claw and the Jagged Crown. I made this mod so that you don't have to miss anything, even if you don't take a side, and to remove those journal entries. It will not be possible to do the Civil War questline unless you deliberately accept a quest from Galmar, Ulfric, Rikke, or Tullius.
After you remove the journal entries, it's possible that someone might try to recruit you again. But you can reread A Plea for Neutrality and it will remove them again.
THE MOD DOES NOT TOUCH SEASON UNENDING, WHICH IS THE QUEST WHERE THE GREYBEARDS TRY TO BROKER A PEACE TREATY. You don't have to pick a side to trigger it, and I am not interested in changing it.

A few have asked about compatibility with Civil War Overhaul. I don't understand the question. That mod is intended to make CW quests more challenging and interesting, whereas this mod is for players who prefer to skip those quests entirely. It is like asking if sex is compatible with abstinence. Or more likely there is something I don't understand; if so please let me know. I don't know if it is compatible with War Zones but it is with Honored Dead.

11 Oct 2016: Added a video showing how to clear your journal and become Thane of Eastmarch. Added images of A Plea for Neutrality (complete with a typo I won't correct until there is a larger update). Added correct images of Eastmarch Needs A Thane. It has a third (blank) page that will also stay until it's updated. 15 Oct 2016: Added a video showing Korvanjund without Imperials or Stormcloaks and taking the Jagged Crown without getting a quest to give it away.
IF THERE IS ENOUGH INTEREST, the next update will make Ulfric and Tullius and other key characters non-essential.
HOT FILES, HOT DANG! Unky Plunky did not think it would ever happen to him. It's not even my best mod.
Be it known forevermore that the following users who put this mod into the hot files by endorsing it are NOT ungrateful bastards, and I will fight you if you say different.
If you are any of the people above, 1. your parents raised you right; 2. you represent 15% of the people who downloaded, so pat yourselves on the back; 3. I freaking LOVE you; 4. please PM me if you want your name permanently engraved in the Palace of the Kings. Or some other place I can put your name or character's name in stone. Because you ROCK. See the images for a mockup. Yeah I'm serious, why not?
truly hope this will work in my heavily mdoded game, loaded endgame saves from the nexus to test my current weapon overhaul and uh...thats what happens when you finish civil war ? one faction cloned the same soldiers everywhere all over the map really ? who tought this would be a good idea ? ><
I believe this mod conflicts with Skyrim Unbound as when i played it and read Eastmarch needs a thane, Ulfric still did not make me thane even after helping people.
Helped some folk before "Blood on the Ice" and some folk after completion. Read the note "Eastmarch needs a Thane". Had a little chat with Ulfric re: him being such a pious knobunwittingly manoeuvred by current and past events into his present short-sighted political stance. Told him I'd helped his people and (Yay!) he made me Thane. He never mentioned "my" stance, or that I should speak with Galmar, at all. Brilliant !
A simple CW Mod that does what it says on the tin without any frills, although, the well written "Plea for Neutrality" is a frill of sorts
I find that if I ask Calder to follow, I then can't dismiss him. Not certain where else to ask this, because I've never had him before this mod. I never do the civil war.
It's more of a curiosity question. If there is no real solution, I already have a follower, so he's fine as just housecarl. With some Hjerim house mods I'm testing, if I need to show him where he sleeps. as I say, I can't dismiss him.
Testing Hjerim Estate - A Remodel of Hjerim (no longer on the Nexu), I have to retrieve him from the vanilla house.
Any insight would be appreciated, thanks.
Overall, though, it is still an excellent mod, And thank you for putting this here for those of us who don't want to do the civil war, but we want the house and housecarl! P.
I think I may have found a workaround regarding the problem where Ulfric doesn't give you the option to become Thane. What I did was read the Eastmarch Needs A Thane note BEFORE helping the people of Windhelm, then doing the five tasks needed. Once you get the message to return to Ulfric, do that and he'll give you the option to become Thane.
Hello, I love the concept and always bothered me a lot that there's no such option in the vanilla game.
My only question about this is: can I get all the items, become thane and etc and THEN choose a side normally when I feel like? If I join the Imperials, for example, will I lose the Hjerim, the status as Thane of Eastmarch? I don't know if this is a silly question by I didn't really found the answer anywhere.
Suppose I became neutral then choose to do Imperial or Stormcloak quest lines including the one involving the Crown... will it affect my status in anyway?
I'm certain that I will have to give up the Crown, but what about the freebies that I got? How will me taking sides change things?
