This mod reintroduces the unlock spell Ondusi's Unhinging from Morrowind.

Okay, so here we are again. This time I present to you another spell to open locked doors in an 'immersive' way.

How it works:

The spell is a concentration type spell. While casting it magical energies focus on the next closed door in the immediate vicinity of the caster. The magical energies build up until the door flies open with a loud and satisfying bang.

Basically it's the unlock spell effect 'Ondusi's Unhinging' from Morrowind with a few adjustments:
  • It only affects doors now. ( Chests, strong boxes or safes holding valuable items need to be unlocked in a more careful way. )
  • In addition to unlocking a door it will also open the door if possible.
  • It's a concentration type spell. You can keep casting it while waking and all the doors will open for you whether they are locked or not.
  • It's very loud and flashy. Which is good, right?


Why?

First, I want the lock picking skill to still be viable for thief and treasure hunter characters and not make it completely obsolete for everyone because of unlock spells and scrolls.

On the other hand there should be a way for wizards to unlock and open doors. Imagine a very powerful and ill tempered mage like Ondusi or Miraak walking down a hallway and suddenly a locked door blocks his path. What would the mage do in this situation? Look around for a key or a lock pick?  No, of course he would simply force the door open with a flick of his fingers.


How to get the spell:

Through console only (help ondusi + player.addspell xx000d64) because I haven't bothered balancing it and at the moment it's probably a little over powered at low levels.


Random Notes:

  • Doors which require a key or those barricaded from the other side will not open and will remain locked.
  • Load doors are only unlocked.

TODO: Balance magica cost and skill improvement. Take into account alteration skill level. Alert people in town when using it.
