My man! Some modder's work just baffles me and drops my jaw to the ground! Your dedication to details, design and overall "getting it done", exactly as my mind would conceive it, makes it seem almost like a granted wish. It is just weird to think about. Such finesse and excellent taste.

I was looking at Whiterun, I'm just outraged! How can it be that people like you are already not making our games by default? How are you not the Jay-Z of gaming? Instead of getting this garba... cough... modder's paradise that Skyrim from Beth is.

Also the kindness and consideration from you at only doubling vanilla, instead of raising everything to 4k or even 8k. I mean, the human eye can only see so much. There is no need to stab your PC with textures when you can get something similar with less. Also Skyrim is far from a perfect engine to mod, it just allows you to mod it, but it doesn't excel at handling it though. I experienced it a lot at Fallout 3.

Look, If I ever make a donation, it'll be you. Thank your for your work and your utmost work ethics.

Superb retexture! The best for solitude by far (in my opinion) I have tested sexy solitude and Osmodius texture for solitude and while they are both great this beats them both! Edorsed! Simply a must have! =D

    Seriously? 1024 textures? In 2016?

Hmm.. Perhaps because people still have VRAM issues in 2016?

With all the hardware upgrades in the past years vram is the one which was advanced the least, while being demanded the most by newer games. Even higher mid range GPUs have crappy low vram if you don't buy the usually much more expensive versions.
So lower res textures still have more place in the current year than 4k or above textures do.

I like these people who believe that a 4k texture is necessarily "better" than a 1k or 2k one. That's the same people who complain because their game still crashes or stutter. They will never understand that this game engine is not meant to support such VRAM usage in a safe way.

UHD textures are required on very high poly meshes. In a 5 years old game, 1K or 2K textures are more than enough.

I play games for fun, im no youtuber or some twitter user who streams and plays games on ludicrous texture quality that demands god knows how much ram, seeing someone uploading 1024 textures that my laptop can run for one of my favorite games... its a very nice thing.

      Agreed Laast,
I never use more than 2K textures for my game, even though I could probably drop in some 4K if I truly wanted to. Well done 1K, and 2K are absolutely fine, and I'd much rather use those and enjoy a stable experience. One thing I have learned with Skyrim in terms of mods and texture replacers is that "less is more." The less you add to your game, the more time you have to enjoy it, rather than trying to fix the messes you've made as a consequence of loading in too much. As you state, it's a five year old engine, which is a tweaked version of the original Morrowind engine.. Even if you have a top-end computer, Skyrim will likely start crashing if overdo it. My computer can run Witcher 3 on all Ultra settings, between 50 and 60 fps, because it's a modern game. But, Skyrim is another matter entirely.

As to this mod, in particular.. everything looks stunning. Thank you so much for all your dedication and hard work.

Likewise, I appreciate that the textures are 1024. Honestly, I probably wouldn't have given them a second look if they were higher res. They're gorgeous as-is, my game runs smoothly and I have the option of installing other mods without worrying about whether or not I'm going to make the game engine explode.

      Thanks, Laast!

i tried all your 3 authentic city mods so far and really love the style of them. unfortunately i have to agree, that some textures are really popping in my eye as low res (at least in my otherwise mainly 2k game). i know you did this textures with "performance" in mind, and said there won't be higher resolutions, but i really hope you will make a 2k version some day. would immediatley add your authentic series to my base game

I never understood this. Rarely if ever do I stop and really stare at a wall in Solitude and think "damn, those pixels are just ruining this game for me." Yeah I guess it'd look great to have 8k carrot textures but if the game is more stable and runs better for an overwhelming amount of players who don't have beast PCs or maybe just don't think it's necessary, all the better. I personally thing Laast did a fabulous job. This and Purity make Solitude gorgeous.

Added the Solitude texture pack over JK cities Lite using MO, no overwrite/confilct. I see an improvement in texture quality, specially notable on the paths and building walls and most important the manhole covers.

I tested all your released cities. The textures are awesome: lore friendly, no FPS hit for me, and they blend seamlessly with the vanilla style.
Thank you very much for sharing them. This work deserves way more downloads.

    Hey there!

I have just recently found out about your Authentic Cities project. Once again, superb work, Laast.
Could you just please explain your statement in the FAQ of this mod/mod series:

"...As usual in my mods, I try to find the best balance between great visual and no framerate loss. This mod doesn't go against that rule."?

Does this mean that you've managed to pull off the retexturing of towns with higher resolution textures with NO framerate loss or with MINIMAL framerate loss?
I know it may sound like a stupid thing to ask but it's hard for me to take hold of a concrete answer to that question only from the aforementioned statement since English isn't my native language.

I quite like the overall aesthetic, but the textures themselves are extremely flat and somewhat low resolution. All of the stonework and bricks don't seem to have normal mapping or any such faux-depth perception to my eyes. I'm hoping I didn't install it wrong or something.

Any conflict with Legacy of the Dragonborn ? (Need to have a free place to install the Museum next to the Blue Palace)

this mod only contains only loose texture files (no .esp, .esm, meshes, ...) . It overrides the vanilla textures. So all object that uses these vanilla textures will display the textures added by this mod instead.

      There is no conflict :-)
