This is a very simple modification; you can now craft gold pieces from gold ingots. The return of usable gold pieces will be dependant on your Smithing skill.

Inspired by the multitude of similar mods, many of which are made well enough, but didn't balance things or offer the function that I really wanted. I figured it was such a small, quick edit that I should just do one myself. Ten minutes in the Creation kit, and here I am. Not revolutionary, or widely wanted, but I figured I'd stick it up anyway.

This mod is designed to facilitate the counterfeiting of gold pieces. The way I calculated return was based on the base cost of gold ingots and the costs of a gold necklace or two gold rings (as that's what you can make with a gold ingot). In the Vanilla game the base values are:

1x Gold Ingot = 100 Gold
1x Gold Necklace = 120 Gold
2x Gold Rings = 150 Gold

As you can see the value of a forged piece of gold is higher than the base value. By extension one can assume that a piece of gold forged into Septims would be even more valuable. Therefore the number of gold pieces returned per level is:

Smithing <10 = 20 Gold
Smithing >=10 & <20 = 40 Gold
Smithing >=20 & <30 = 60 Gold
Smithing >=30 & <40 = 80 Gold
Smithing >=40 & <50 = 100 Gold
Smithing >=50 & <60 = 120 Gold
Smithing >=60 & <70 = 140 Gold
Smithing >=70 & <80 = 160 Gold
Smithing >=80 & <90 = 180 Gold
Smithing >90 = 200 Gold

The varying states reflect your ability to correctly forge the gold pieces. Logic would dictate at lower a lower Smithing skill you would incur more reject pieces that aren't usable.

Overall what this allows you to do is use an alternative way to make money on any gold found. Even with a maxed out Speechcraft stat the maximum you'll get for gold brick is 100 septims. If you turn that into rings you'll still only get 150 septims. Now you can get a return that is much higher if you're a good smith. In the early game it'll be choice of how best to use the gold for your profit dependant on your Smithing or Speechcraft.

None. Just Vanilla Skyrim.

Compatible with anything. This mod simply adds ten crafting recipes. Any other mods that include gold piece crafting will introduce a duplicate recipe. This mod works fantastically with any mods that allow you to melt gold items back into ingots.

Anyone who has made a similar mod.

I have a very simple permissions policy; if it’s my own work then it’s open source. You may do what you like with it. Any part of my work that belongs to somebody else, you must gain their permission to use that part (check the credits). I have two stipulations: Firstly, any work you release that incorporates any of my work must be released as open source as well (that means you MUST NOT charge money for it). Secondly, any credits given on my work must be given on yours as well.
