About this mod

Patches to make the popular music mods work together.

Update:

The update is just the FULL version with up-to-date requirements AND it now requires Additional Music Project.

But good news! It took me all of about 5 minutes to make this patch and merge it with all of its requirements. And you could do the same! It requires mator smash (bash can't do it, as much as I tried, sorry), and mator's merge plugins standalone. The video below shows how it's done if you still find these programs intimidating. This would allow you to make a custom patch for any combination of music mods you use.

If you have any questions about how to use the utilities, let me know. (Even (perhaps especially?) if you don't use MO.

This version is no longer up to date, but the Music Mods Compatibility Patch made by NewRaven just got updated! Check it out :)

The vanilla soundtrack is a work of art. Carefully crafted music, placed just so with brief periods of silence to let you breathe. It is subtle and atmospheric.

This patch is none of those things.

There are at least five popular music mods that expand on the amount of music available in the game. Unfortunately, due to the way these work, they are not compatible with each other. This patch makes a merged esp that allows all of those mods' music able to play.

There are (very few, I left some in) brief periods of silence. There is no subtlety. This is simply taking every track that some other authors thought would make sense in their mod, and combining them into a playlist (music type) so that all the tracks have a chance of playing. Some of the tracks frankly suck. Others have volume issues - too quiet or too loud. I did nothing to fix that.

If you are the kind of person who likes to listen to his or her iTunes library on full random shuffle, but is too lazy to put together a playlist that fits thematically with Skyrim, this patch is for you.

Mator Smash can also make this patch now. I will add instructions for how to do so in a future update.

Requirements

It depends on which file you pick. THIS MOD CONTAINS NO MUSIC. YOU MUST DOWNLOAD THE REQUIRED MODS OR NOTHING WILL WORK AND YOU WILL BE SAD. You MUST have the indicated version of each of these mods or your game will crash and you will be sad.

Version LITE

Version FULL

Installation

Download each of the required mods. Download this patch. Install all of them (preferably with your favorite mod organizer). Load this patch after the required mods (LOOT should do this automatically. Don't use BOSS (like, at all ever)). Order of the required mods does not actually matter, Skyrim isn't *that* dumb.

Uninstallation: Delete the esp that says Music Patch - somethingsomethingsomething.

Incompatibilities
This
patch is compatible with any replacers that replace vanilla music, but do not have an esp, like Relax Music. This patch is incompatible with any music mods that *do* contain an ESP that edits music types (playlists), like Epic Music Overhaul. This patch is compatible with any mod that does not edit music types.

A few notes:
  • Immersive Music doesn't contain the vanilla music. Whether this was a mistake or intentional is unclear.  My patch contains all vanilla music. The goal is to give you as much variation as possible.
  • The optional file on Fantasy Soundtrack Project's page, Unique Towns and Locations Music, is compatible with this patch. However, this file edits a whole heck of a lot of cells to use a playlist unique to FSP that basically only has one or two tracks, each specific to that cell. It definitely adds more variety to the music, but if you spend a lot time in Dragonsreach (for example) you will only ever hear one song there, if you use this optional file (That song, on the other hand, will *only* play in Dragonsreach).  If you use the full version of my patch but NOT FSP's optional file, there will be over 25 tracks that can play in Dragonsreach, but they will be the same tracks that play in *any* castle. I'm trying to decide on the best way to approach this now. Suggestions are welcome.
  • The same thing is true with Immersive Music's Immersive Temples esp, but it won't be as noticeable because the music type this esp creates contains 48 tracks already, without being touched by my patch.
  • There are a lot of tracks that are placed on playlists that aren't used in vanilla skyrim at all. The USKP fixes it so every playlist edited by this patch is played in the appropriate places (instead of, say, the Braidwood Inn playing MusExploreTundra instead of MusTavern). Please use the Unofficial Skyrim Patch, and consider donating to the team members - the people who put so much work into making Skyrim... not a bug-ridden mess.

I'd like to give credit to the authors of the mods this patches, who did a ton of work picking out tracks and carefully placing them (or... less carefully, in the case of "Immersive Music"), only to have their work be slaughtered by a haphazard attempt at combining it with other people's work. Please endorse their mods and donate to them if you are able!

Aarcheduke (Tom Colebrooke)

I'd also like to give thanks to the people who inspired me to make this patch, helped me fix some bugs with it (who knew master order was so important?), and criticized it.
