I admire your work and effort there, but I dont like texture mods or any other mods that modify the vanilla look of skyrim I'm only interested in gameplay mods and recently there are not many of those. Whenever I open up nexus mods there are always those skull and cup or whatever texture replacement.. they only change the look of the game not the feel and they are even hardly noticeable ingame. I mean who in hell would zoom into a mug or a plate to notice the detail while ingame. Again I understand your effort and I admire your work just giving my own opinion.
This might be one of those opinions better left to oneself.
There are many mods on Nexus that I have absolutely no interest in.... I don't, however, waste my time posting comments to announce that to others. What's the point?
I think 90% of modders disagree with you serious2venom. Also quite rude to tell someone to stop making the type of mods they want to make. Where's your great gameplay mods? Go mod yourself if you think there should be more mods that suit your specific needs.
So, to be clear, serious2venom, in your opinion there's no point in having the game looking like the second image because it JUST a change in how it looks? As for saying he was rude, i disagree, he is wrong, but he said his wrong opinion respectfully.
And about the mod itself... bravo! I'm going to zoom into a strongbox for a while
No, he was rude frank. The language was polite, the message wasn't. The message was basically: Stop doing what you do and do what I want you to do your mod is useless and doesn't add anything to the game, do what I want you to do because I say so. But of course he *admires* the work.
@ serious2venom: For what it's worth, your point reminds me of an engaging discussion posited by by Samoul Online and Sorcerer Dave on their respective YouTube sites. They take opposite positions with respect to the perception of weakening plot dynamics in The Elder Scrolls in particular and the "dumbing down" of the gaming community at large. That being said, to go after Gamwich for these posited transgressions is a little like going after the farrier for losing the war ("For the want of a nail ..." et al). It follows, your comment IS rather out of place. I vigorously disagree with your position, but we are in danger of hijacking the venerable Gamwich's piece de resistance by tabling those opinions here.
Now, before I direct you to a suitable place for this particular concern of yours, I would like to add one other honestly well intentioned word to the wise. Albeit your meager 24 posts belie a certain lack of familiarity with respect to Nexus social convention, we should point out that the topical incongruity of posts such as yours may often be interpreted as rude or hostile no matter how many smiley faces you post at the end, simply by virtue of subject matter placement. In other words, if it's off topic, take it off the table. Just sayin'. To wit, a better venue for you might be the Skyrim Mod Requests Forum at:
http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/forum/422-skyrim-mod-requests/ Darkfox has considered every angle. Check it out. Might be what you're looking for.
I'd go to some other modding scene if you want more gameplay-related mods. The main hurdle is the horrible 'crashalot' editor, no scripting language for artists and a staggeringly backwards 3D model format. That is why the majority of files are re-textures.
serious2venom I agree with you. Most mods are just bells & whistles nowadays. And what's worse, ANY criticism is taken with hostility on Nexus. Users are supposed to smile and praise anything and everything just because someone's put his time into it. This approach is unhealthy, for without criticism there's no progress.
@ronnix It seems you're confusing "criticism" with "disapproval". Let me give you an example of both.
Criticism: "Your paintings are good, but you should use more variety of color instead of using the same color over and over." Disapproval: "Your paintings are good, but you should stop doing it coz it's useless and a waste time."
I agree with you that without criticism, society won't progress but what serious2venom said is not a criticism.
I'm guessing this mod is pretty much incompatible with this one: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/38252
Either these loose files will override the changes from the .esp of the other - or maybe regular strongboxes will have the updated look, while the East Empire ones will still look vanilla but with the badge?
In either case - is it possible for some kind of compatibility. Maybe lend your very nice strongbox textures to the other mod? It would be nice with consistent (and great looking) strong boxes across the board, but I really like what the other mod does, adding the East Empire symbol to the boxes that belong to the company.
(Yeah I'm one of those annoying people who want their cake and eat it to!)
Reading the description, it sounds like the regular version has an esp and a second texture so that the East Empire logo is added to the appropriate strongboxes in the game. So, all that would be needed would be another version of my strongbox texture with the logo added. That shouldn't be difficult. If you want a raised logo, then I'd need to add a new normal map and edit the mod's mesh as well,
I don't have any affiliations with the other mod, but the author seems active here on the forums still, so I could always write her a message and see if she's interested in having her logos on your strongbox as an alternative.
EDIT: Just wrote the author of the other mod, will get back to you once I hear from her.
I'm not all that interested in Skyrim modding at the moment (a bit burnt out), but feel free to make any patches with my logo.
The version with the .esp was an option request by a user. Since the game points to the same mesh for all the strongboxes, it was impossible to make it just affect the East Empire ones on Solstheim without using an .esp to change where the game looks for the mesh (and thus the texture).
In any case, I just lifted the logo off of one of the Easy Empire crate's textures to begin with. I don't have time to go look for it right now (as I'm on my way out for a bit), but I *MAY* still have the GIMP file saved where I "cookie cutter'd" the logo texture off the original crate texture (I probably don't, though).
In any case, if you want to make a patch, be my guest. I wouldn't bother with a normal map, though - it's supposed to be a "painted on" logo (as it was on the crates), and so it doesn't need any depth added to it.
I don't get why this texture needs to be uploaded twice. Why didn't morry just delete this file and use the one in the mod it was already uploaded to? It's not really easier to select this one texture from here as you can easily disregard files you don't want with either Mod Organizer or by hand even. I'm not trying to be grumpy or anything, it just does not make sense to me obviously!
Edit: I'm thick, it was recently added to the other collection!
The confusion is my fault.... this wasn't a conventional launch. I knew people would ask for the texture to be added to RCC (and they did), so I uploaded it later. But, since morry16 was the one who gave me the notion to retexture the strongbox in the first place, it only seemed right that he host it first.
Another winner. I had been using the retex from the rather underrated (and sadly no longer available) Skyrim Ultra HD Texture Pack. But this'll do nicely
Thanks, I redrew the raised filigree design by hand. I tried to stay true to the original feel, but the Bethesda texture was quite blurry, so it isn't exact.
The more i look at the enhanced vanilla texture from the other retexture i have, the more i see something.....
Somehow the vanilla design looks like some serpents around the strongbox - tail and head. At the bottom of the keyhole it looks like a face with a circlet/crown on top, from its mouth this face is shouting/speaking with the "dragon language" and two serpents/lizards coming out of each side and go above on the sides of the hole. On top it looks like another face with horns, left and right are the hands and the "bad guy or demon" trying to get the valuables out of the box and the serpents try to stop it.

Good luck. Keep your game on. Modders rule.
