Bannered Mare Loft

Adds a very small one-room loft apartment over the counter area in the Bannered Mare.  Suitable for a low-level player or as a hideout.  Not a good choice for you and your spouse and your dozen children and twenty followers.  It's a really tiny room.

NOW AVAILABLE IN SE: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/45388

REQUIRED:
SKYRIM.ESM
UPDATE.ESM
HEARTHFIRES.ESM

NO THERE WON'T BE A VERSION THAT DOESN'T REQUIRE HEARTHFIRES.  Yeah, it's an aesthetic choice because I like the ladder/trap door from Hearthfires rather than the rickety-looking vanilla ladder, but that's the way it goes.

SUMMARY:
Whiterun is the first city most people spend any significant game time in, and is a good base of operations for a lot of low-level quests, but unless you zoom through the early stages of the main Quest and put together enough gold to buy Breezehome, there's no place safe to stash your stuff.  Now there is.

The loft has a double bed that gives you the well-rested bonus, dresser, chest, two end tables and a knapsack for safe storage.  Plus a food barrel, fish barrel and Honningbrew mead barrel that respawn, so you get some free food from the deal if you're playing with a needs mod.

Access to the loft is via a ladder/trap door in the ceiling behind the counter in the Bannered Mare.  It IS a teleport door, but it's in the same cell as the Bannered Mare so you'll hear all the sounds, etc. just like you would if you lived over a bar....

There are two different versions of the mod, depending on whether or not you want the loft for free or want to role-play paying for it:
1) KEY VERSION - There's a key to the loft under the counter in the Bannered Mare.  Take it and the loft is yours forever.
2) FEE VERSION - Read the "LOFT AVAILABLE!" note on the counter in the Bannered Mare.  Hulda makes you a deal you can't refuse - you chop wood for the Bannered Mare in exchange for getting to live in the loft.  Give Hulda 18 pieces of firewood and the loft is yours for a week.  Forget to pay and the storage reverts to "owned" by Hulda until you chop more wood.  There's a player-owned axe underneath the Bannered Mare counter if you need one.

USE ONLY ONE VERSION IN YOUR GAME.  REALLY.

There are NO crafting facilities in the loft.  Cooking facilities are in the Bannered Mare, Arcadia's shop has an alchemy table, Warmaiden's and Jorrvaskr are nearby for smithing, and you can bother Farengar at the castle for his Enchanting table.

INSTALLATION:
Make a HARD SAVE (not an auto save or quick save) before installing, so you can revert to it if you need to uninstall the mod for some reason.  Then use your favorite mod manager to install the version of your choice.

UNINSTALLATION:
The ONLY SAFE WAY way to uninstall any mod is to revert to the HARD SAVE you made before installing the mod.  But, if you choose not to do that, try the following:

For the KEY VERSION, there are NO scripts.  Uninstalling the mod SHOULD be as simple as removing the esp from your Data folder/uninstalling it via your mod manager of choice.  But reverting to the HARD SAVE is the best method.

For the FEE VERSION, there are a few scripts and a timer event.  I STRONGLY RECOMMEND REVERTING TO THE HARD SAVE RATHER THAN UNINSTALLING.  But, if you must uninstall, use the mod manager of your choice to delete the mod, then make a NEW HARD SAVE without the mod in it and run a save game script cleaning tool on that save.

I won't support problems in your game if you've uninstalled rather than reverting to the HARD SAVE you made before installing the mod.

UPDATING:
The KEY VERSION should be as simple as replacing the old esp with the new one.

For the FEE VERSION, remove all your stuff from the safe storage (just in case) wait until the loft rental expires and the storage reverts to "Steal From" status.  Then remove the old version and install the new version via the mod manager of your choice.

COMPATABILITY:
Should be compatible with anything that doesn't change the area used in the Bannered Mare for the loft itself and the ladder/trap door.  I didn't alter the vanilla room rental scripts, so even mods that affect the rental process/price should be fine.  The key or notice and axe, depending on version, might be displaced if another mod changes the counter area.  If you encounter issues, try loading this mod after the conflicting one.

KNOWN ISSUES:
I marked the ladder/door as "Ignore by Sandbox" and "Hidden on Local Map" to try to keep Bannered Mare patron NPCs from appearing in the loft, but I find that the occasional NPC still makes his way up there.  I have no idea why.  My guess is it's a game "feature" (i.e., bug), but if someone knows differently (short of rewriting every sandbox AI package), please tell me.

I assume Hulda is alive and well and is the innkeeper at the Bannered Mare.  If she's already dead in your game, use the KEY VERSION.  If you install the FEE VERSION, I made Hulda essential, but there are mods that may change that.  Make sure she stays alive or you won't be able to give her the firewood.

Your followers WILL teleport with you to the loft IF their AI has them following you closely.  Otherwise, they may stay in the main part of the Bannered Mare while you're in the loft because you're in the same cell and they're technically close enough to you to satisfy their AI.  If your followers have summon spells, or you use a follower mod with a "summon follower" feature, that's the best way to get them to join you if they don't follow you upstairs immediately.  There's nothing else I can do about this, unfortunately.

IN THE FEE VERSION, you have to give Hulda all 18 pieces of firewood at one time, the mod doesn't implement a counter with how many you've given her.  Also, when you give her the firewood the timer resets AT THAT MOMENT for the next seven day period, it doesn't just add on another seven days to whatever time is left on the room.  I'm not sure how to make it tack on the rental period without potentially screwing up the timer and/or the game, so just wait until your rental is about to expire before you give Hulda the next installment of firewood if you want to get the maximum value out of your "work".

CHANGES:
1.0 - Initial version

PERMISSIONS:
THIS MOD IS FREE.  If you paid for it, you got screwed.

PLEASE NOTE:  Permissions are open.  I would appreciate being told if you use
my mods in your own, but it's not required.  I do ask that you don't use
it in paid mods.  You are free to include this in a modpack.  However, I
won't be able to support any problems you may find if you use it as
part of a modpack because I'll have no way of knowing if anything has
been changed.
