Great mod! Does just what it says, and the patch which doesn't require Arcane Smithing is greatly appreciated.
Soo much better than the save/reload method on merchants, or trying to get a follower to fill a stack of petty gems with a mudcrab's soul. Thanks for this-- it'll be in my mod list from now on!
This pretty cool! For a role-play standpoint, I could use this to turn Black soul gems, into practice gems, and use those to practice enchanting. BTW, is it not possible to craft the practice gems into normal gems? I REALLY love your mods BTW, they add some very good content to the game, so thank you!
Originally I was going to do a straight breakdown mod (Grand/Black into 2 Greater, Greater into 2 Common, Common into 2 Lesser, and Lesser into 2 Petty) but I found that was WAY OP and completely broke the economy of the game. If you had only a handful of Grand Soul Gems you could get an absolute ton of Petty Soul Gems, enchant a bunch of stuff, and make ridiculous amounts of money. Also there was the issue that the vanilla gems have a relatively high value, whereas the Practice Soul Gems are only worth 1 drake a piece.
A better balance would be to switch common and lesser around. And I'd like to make a suggestion for a version that breaks down soul gems one level at a time, where black soul gems work like grand soul gems.
This is an interesting mod to say the least, and an ingenious solution to the problem that is grinding souls. The actual use of it however is dubious to me. The EXP you get from enchanting is based on the value of the item after the enchantment is applied after all, so depending on how much seven Petty-level enchantments are worth in comparison to a single Grand... I'm too lazy to do the math, but it's something you might want to clarify yourself.
This is incorrect. Unlike Smithing, created item value is not actually applied when Enchanting skill increase is calculated. I think item value effects how much experience you get when disenchanting, but it definitely does not get taken into account when creating new enchantments.
