As always, please be as descriptive as possible when reporting bugs, and please follow all installation steps. I cannot help you with FNIS installation issues; please contact Fore on the FNIS page for these issues. Thanks!

Art of the Catch is noteworthy given recent events.

There are many outlets to discuss past events, opinions, and perspectives on these events related to paid mods. This is not one of those outlets; please discuss those topics elsewhere. For more information about this, and my return to mod development, please see this post.

Thank you for respecting my desire to focus on moving forward with this mod's development, and creating cool new things in general.

The development status of this mod is: Planned development
The support status of this mod is: Unsupported

This development status means that I have serious intention to resume development on this mod at some point in the future. Tentatively, that timeframe is early 2016. Currently, the development timeline is: Frostfall 3.0, then Last Seed, then Art of the Catch.

This support status means that I am currently not monitoring these boards. Please rely on other community members and users and help one another resolve the issues you may encounter. Active support will resume when active development begins again.

    Thank you for your understanding.

Very easy port to SE with CAO. Works perfectly. Don't forget to run nemesis/fnis for the animations.

If someone manages to port this to SE please send me it.
I've tried and I have no luck. I've tried using Cathedral and the convertoskyrimse.bat

To convert animations to SE, you first need to extract the .bsa (which CAO can also do!) and then optimise those. Cathedral can't interact with anything within an archive.

      Sadly, no.

I managed to port this mod myself for personal use, but I found that there are currently two issues with it:
    1) The animation is a little rough around the edges. Nobody casts a line with a horizontal motion like that
    2) This mod breaks the balance of other popular immersion and survival mods such as hunterborn, realistic needs and diseases and frostfall. One of these mods has it's own fishing mechanic and while it doesn't add its own animations, at least it's balanced.

This mod works perfect on skyrim se if you open the bsa and use CAO. Just that. Use nemesis or fnis. Whatever.
Sadly the development is dead :(

Any relation between this and the Anniversary Edition / SSE fishing?

Are the animations correct?  Are you using FNIS or Nemesis?  I ported it with CAO and had Nemesis discover it.  But most of the animations dont play out.  Curious to hear your response.

So the mod seems to be working, but no fish are added to my inventory after I reel them in. I see my player reach down and grab something, but then nothing happens. Thoughts?

Unfortunately this mod is UNSUPPORTED as noted back in 2015 by Chesko (who is now semi retired? retired?) from modding Skyrim. So you're on your own in using this mod.

You might want to consider other fishing mods which do work i.e. catch fish and other useful weapons/reagent craftables like

Fishing in Skyrim (best most lore friendly)
Skyrim Fishing (this one has ported to SSE).

The animations in these aren't as refined as this mod. But the mod functionally works as it should.

      Good luck

Do you have any mods installed that adds new fish species to the game? Last I checked, this mod is incompatible with those mods as it's designed to only catch fish in the vanilla game

Skyrim Fishing has a critical bug in it that causes frequent CTDs. Fishing in Skyrim is great, but the latest version has an immensely overpowered NPC that wanders the province and kills all the animals and aggressive NPCs.

None of the fishing mods are completely satisfactory, alas. This one would be perfect if 1). it required bait, 2). Salmon Roe were still obtainable, 3). It didn't redraw the fishing rod every time you use the fishing power. I don't use FNIS (and I never will, for reasons), so I don't know if that only occurs without it.

Where is the info about the supposed CTDs in Skyrim Fishing? I checked the LE and SE posts in the Skyrim Fishing mod and no mention of CTD, crash, or even the word "stable" appear there. Just wondering since I want a clean and stable modlist.

Frankly, if you want a clean and stable mod list...don't use mods.

The features of Skyrim Fishing" were included in the author's larger mod "Hunting in Skyrim," in which something was causing CTD every time the fishing line was cast. I replicated the same CTD in Skyrim Fishing. It was never resolved because the author has moved on to other projects. I didn't troubleshoot it heavily because there are 2 other Fishing mods that don't CTD when trying to fish.

Took a long time to run into this. Beautiful animation. Works fine for me. Only drawback is that each time when fishing is done you'll have a heavy sword in your inventory which was not there before. A little bit of fishing can make you over encumbered. Or am I the only one?

Works fine on SSE.. download, extract .bsa with BAE extractor. Optimize .nifs with Nifoptimizer, run havok update and .hkx animation update ( somebody already posted a link on this page ). Repack it all into an archive run through NMM or w/e you're using, run FNIS with .hkx check.. if you got no errors you're good to go. Works for me on 1st try ... get close to a body of water before resting and console additem your rod ( there are 3 different versions 2 categorized as Weapons 1 as Misc.. ADD THE MISC else your "use fishing rod" wont work ) and see if everything works.

I tried porting this myself and when installed and ran FNIS I get this warning:
      ">>Warning: \character\behaviors\FNIS_ArtOfTheCatch_Behavior.hkx not Skyrim SE compatible<<"
"run havok update and .hkx animation update" --> What are these?? Are they two separate distinct tools, or a combined mod/tool somewhere?
If I run it with HKX File Compatibility Check, I get 6 errors:
      ">>Warning: \character\behaviors\FNIS_ArtOfTheCatch_Behavior.hkx not Skyrim SE compatible<<
      Reading ArtOfTheCatch
      >>Warning: \character\animations\ArtOfTheCatch\FishCast.hkx not Skyrim SE compatible<<
      >>Warning: \character\animations\ArtOfTheCatch\FishIdle.hkx not Skyrim SE compatible<<
      >>Warning: \character\animations\ArtOfTheCatch\FishPullCenter.hkx not Skyrim SE compatible<<
      >>Warning: \character\animations\ArtOfTheCatch\FishPullLeft.hkx not Skyrim SE compatible<<
      >>Warning: \character\animations\ArtOfTheCatch\FishPullRight.hkx not Skyrim SE compatible<<"
Will those tools you mention fix these to update and port to SE?

Edit: Found a Convert.bat file guide, installed/ran it, pointed to animations directory. It had a bunch of errors of not finding "x.hkx" file, yet I was looking at them right there in the folder.
Again ran FNIS, still gave the same error:
      ">>Warning: \character\behaviors\FNIS_ArtOfTheCatch_Behavior.hkx not Skyrim SE compatible<<"
Uninstalled Art of the Catch, FNIS gave no errors.
Cannot make this work for SE.

I think I understand your confusion. Completely converting this is can be a bit involved, but here are the steps I took:
      1. Manually download Art of the Catch here
      2. Extract all files to a single file on your computer
      3. Use a BSA unpacker and unpack the included BSA file. Extract all files from the BSA to the same folder as everything else you just downloaded and extracted.
      4. Copy all hkx files under meshes>actors>character>animation>ArtOfTheCatch to your Skyrim Special Edition>Tools>HavokBehaviorPostProcess
      5. Run converttoskyrimse.bat in HavokBehaviorPostProcess. The hkx files you copied over should show a "date modified" date of today instead of 2015
      6. Copy the hkx files back to your meshes>actors>character>animation>ArtOfTheCatch folder and overwrite the old animation files
      7. Do this same procedure (steps 4-6) with the single hkx file under meshes>actors>character>behavior folder and replace the old one when done. Now all your hkx files are updated for Skyrim SE!
      8. You will need SSE Nif Optimizer tool next. All .nif files under meshes>artofthecatch need to be converted to SSE using this tool.
      9. Once that's done, pack everything back up in a .zip file and install like a normal mod
      10. Run FNIS.
      11. Use Creation Kit and load up the Art of the Catch .esp. Click Save. Now the esp has been updated to Form 44 for Skyrim SE.
      12 . Mission Complete!

Thanks for the explanations. I loved using this mod in LE and I'm beginning my first playthrough of SE. After I do the conversion and testing, I'm wondering if I could put the converted copy in a place outside the nexus where people could download? Or would that be against accepted use? Don't want to do anything the author or nexus disallows.
