Hey man, I'm a big fan of Warcraft lore and I /really/ love the work you did here, truly fantastic stuff. I've been trying to port this mod over to SE for my own personal use (I have ZERO intentions of uploading the port anywhere for public use without your express permission, and at this time I am not seeking it), but I've been running into some persistent issues and I cannot for the life of me figure them out. I've asked around in every Skyrim Discord server I could find for help, but no one seems to have an answer, so I figured I'd drop a message here and hope you'll respond.
This is the issue that I'm currently experiencing: https://files.catbox.moe/kz8rz4.wmv You might be able to notice two problems: 1. A very funky-looking glow effect when unsheathing the weapon 2. An extremely saturated and bright shader effect covering the weapon while it is unsheathed
I don't think it's anything wrong with the textures themselves, but rather I suspect something is awry with the ashbringereffect.nif file, or its corresponding Effect Shader entry in SSEEdit. Unfortunately, I have no frame of reference from which to decipher the data blocks and narrow the search for what's going wrong. Do you think you might have any ideas about where to look or how to rectify this issue?
It needs remaking (which I am in the process of doing, albeit not a priority), the effect is rendered slightly different in SE and doesn't port over 1:1
I see, is there any advice or recommendations you can give me for how to adjust the effect rendering so it plays better with SE? I completely understand that you are currently dealing with other projects and cannot give the Ashbringer remake any kind of priority attention at the moment, that is the main reason why I decided to take a crack at porting this mod over to SE so you'd have one less person nagging you all the time about finishing the remake.
Again, I will NOT be distributing or posting this port anywhere for public access, it is just a personal project for my own satisfaction and to tide me over while I wait for the remake to come out.
I couldn't tell you off the top of my head, it's been so long since I looked at those nifs and they're definitely not my best or cleanest work. For the most simple port, I'd just try removing all of the blocks in the nif that aren't the weapon runes and the coin/skull.
First off, I would just like to thank you for all of the mods you’ve created for Oldrim and have re-released for the Special Edition/Anniversary Edition. You made the gaming experience astronomically superior for me. I’ll go ahead and buy you a coffee as a tip, but I’ll give you a hefty donation once this mod has been officially ported over. Don’t lose hope, and just remember that you’re an icon in the modding community and people really appreciate the work you do!
Hi! It's not being ported to SE, it's being remade for SE at a higher quality! I already have a new classic Ashbringer model made, it's just that I have other projects more pressing, so it's a few positions down in the queue, but it's definitely being made, with other Ashbringers too if I can help it. Should have better effects too this time.
I’m definitely in no rush, because this isn’t a game-breaking mod that I absolutely NEED, since I’ve obviously gone 3 years without it so far. By all means, take your time. I tried my hand at porting Oldrim to SSE, but unfortunately, the textures flicker worse than Whiterun’s roofs from a mile away. The Silver Hand on standard Ashbringer, and the skull on Corrupted Ashbringer both seem to have a 2D box around them along the central plane. It could be worse though. The only time it seems like none of this is a problem is while the sword is in being swung, regardless of the speed. If you can think of any fixes off the top of your head, by all means. I’ll buy you a few more coffees as well. Lol.
Hmm, flickering should only occur when meshes share the same axis. I can't remember about how I made these Ashbringers but the effect blocks in the NIF should be offset by at least 0.02. It may just be an NiAlphaProperty setting that needs correcting for SE. Try running it through SSE Nif Optimizer too, see what happens
Sorry to dive in but I remember you talking about releasing the sword in the same mod which would be containing the Judgement set. Is this still your plan or are you making them separate?
Nothing as of yet, but it's still happening. I just need to decide if I'm sticking with just the Ashbringer + Corrupted Ashbringer or adding in all of the Legion versions as well.
