There is nothing wrong with an artist choosing to sell their work. (Keep it classy guys) Forever Free is a future proofing promise to the community that the particular mod will always be free to download regardless of any future opportunity's to monetize the mod.
EDIT concerning the Creation Club Forever Free is somewhat of a moot point. The Bethesda Creation Club does not allow old pre-established mods to go behind a paywall. If you still wish to use this logo, you are more then welcome to. It can be used for mod resource makers whom wish to make it clear that their content be used only for the creation of free to play mods, since we're still lacking details on how that will be handled.
Try to have a link back to Forever Free when using this logo; so other people have a chance to use it too, and read what Forever Free is all about to avoid confusion.
Quick shout-out to GhostAgents forum post it's well written and proposes some good ideas for Nexus. If you wish to add your mod to a list of mods that are Forever free please go here to post them
Please know that the "modding dragon of eternal freedom" is not just Skyrim exclusive. This is an issue that can effect any modding community. We incorporated a dragon into the logo because Skyrim is at the beginning of an important event in modding history. I think it's important that we remember even if we're all moding and playing different games, we are all a part of the modding community as a larger whole.
How To Use images in Nexus Mod Descriptions: Download the package and pick out a pre-sized ready-to-go 200px version or edit one to your liking. Then upload it to your images or your mod's images, view it, right click and select "view image in new tab" or "view image" and copy it's url address. Then use the bbcode for images in your mod description.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not against your expressed ideals, but I think this needs to stop. Bear with me, I'll explain myself in details. I'll start with a simple pair of examples.
First one – as you're walking in the park you come across two unknown men. They pass by you without saying anything.
A normal situation right? The kind that happens regularly and is not a cause for concern.
Well, here's the second example – as you're walking in the park you come across two unknown men. One of them says “Hi. Don't worry, I'm not going to murder you as soon as you turn your back to me”. But the other one just stays silent.
Is THAT normal? Doesn't that rise suspicion and concern? Does that promise REALLY help in this situation?
Well, that is what you're paving a road to, unfortunately.
The decisions of any of us have effect on all of us and that includes deciding to make a promise.
There's an unspoken rule in the community – mods are meant to be free and remain free from commercial exploitation unless initially declared otherwise. Making promises to uphold an unspoken rule only serves to weaken the rule. I'd like to hammer that point home REALLY well, because this is what my post is all about, but if the above example didn't do that already, then probably nothing ever will.
If you think about it hard enough, you'll realize that the whole ordeal happened exactly because someone has decided to break that unspoken rule. For example if we didn't have that rule in the first place there would have been no conflict. Nor would be there any conflict if the entire deal only encompassed NEW mods made 100% from ground up without taping into the community which lived by the unspoken rule.
It's that breaking that brought about the shadow of uncertainty, threat of wedges and whatever else you may call it. And THE way to lift all that is to restore back the same rule to the same state as it was before.
Does it guaranty us anything? No it doesn't, it's as fragile as any promise. Does it put minds at ease? Sure it does, like NOTHING else.
Do you know what defensive wars are fought for? They are fought for keeping things the way they were. Until things return to the way they were this conflict will not be “won”, and if they never return to the way they were, than what we end up with can at best be called a partial defeat.
Again, don't get me wrong, you've done the right thing for the right time, but now it's time to finish this. It's time for the community to get back out of the trenches and to once again take “peace” for granted.
If anyone wants to monetize his modwork than it's that someone's responsibility to organize that endeavor in a decent manner including recognition of community interaction and timely declaration. Yes, we don't have guaranties that those responsibilities will be upheld, so what? Just that fact that a different human can easily do something mean to you is not a reason enough to torment our own minds by doubting everyone around us. Peace is fragile, but priceless, and that includes the peace of mind, which, I might add, is important for future wellbeing of modding community.
I really appreciate what's been done, but if we want this to mean something good for our future we now need a similar effort dedicated to restoring the unspoken rule to the way it was, and to hammer home the importance of maintaining it. Otherwise, all those accomplishments amount to nothing more than participation in an event that brought modding community one step away from whence it was and one step closer to where we don't want it to end up.
Because of creation club occuring, the analogy has to include the fact that the parks are where murders are now taking place.. so the man saying 'don't worry, we're not going to hurt you' is in fact reassuring. That's what this is all about.
If you want to discuss, do it on a forum NOT HERE.
Late to the party...but man i don't think i've ever found this subject as interesting as you put it.
And look at all the people screaming forever free, forever free shirts...they are now on CC, putting out low quality content, just to get a piece of the cake, and not enjying what they do anymore :(
You're selling your art to Bethesda for a cheap price, and it'd be better to go on patreon, rather than sellin gut to the company forcing microtransaction on us. Im disappointed byt his monster called Bethesda...you used to make cool games, now you just pander to young kids and console fanboys to throw money at you.
endless dumb chains of meaningless comments will be deleted simply to avoid scrolling down 50 nonsense messages to get to yet another nonsense message. waste of everyones time.
I know right? I thought this mod would stop Bethesda from bringing back paid mods? But no, doesn't work. This bug is game breaking, mysticentity should have made bigger logos. Flagged and reported.

I promise not to track down where you live, break in during the night, and then rob, rape, kill, and eat you (not necessarily in that order).
Does that mean you're now suspicious that I might?
lol
