    Sticky
    ANNOUNCEMENT
This mod was going to go down and be deleted end of month because I do not feel it should indefinitely overshadow some of the good work that unfortunately came out during the modpocalypse as it were. Seems others have shot far ahead of me on other things.

I would encourage any of you that voted for FOTM and endorsed to go throw your hat in for someone who took some effort on their work Hell check out my other mods (Skip some of the spell ones unless you want a laugh) I ain't above self promotion.

But it's over, we won, time to start making something from the ashes we kindled but beth/valve intentionally set.

You may be taking this down, but it is now forever immortalized as the desktop wallpaper on my monitor in the background of my new work photo.
I was asked for a photo of me in a work environment and figured it would be a good opportunity to share this with the world in my own little way.
Side note: It's been a decade since my avatar pic was taken, and my new work photo is the first pic of me I've seen since then... I have not aged well.

Sorry to hear you'll be taking one of your mods down, I love your crazy spell mods though and I have often wanted a shout in the form of vomitting spiders for my vampire character and have no idea why it didn't occur to me before to ask you since you make such wonderful spells of crazy and awesome feats, but if you get the time and like my idea, I want something along the lines of a green projectile vomit with little crawling spiders coming out after it starts flying toward the enemy, not sure if this is even possible but perhaps you could use the afllicted default attack and shrink frostbite spiders to crawl toward the enemy after the green puke subsides and dissolves off of them and maybe mod the default puke animation to contain black dots to represent the spiders until it hits the target, just a thought, and I had no other choice but to come to you for such an idea, as you're the master of insane spells that are completely unique and awesome. Anyway thanks for all your spell mods they are awesome and hope you like my idea.

Or if it would be too OP then perhaps a projectile puke that sets the target on fire for a short time and on contact summons three larger frostbite spiders to attack the target until the spiders are killed or the spell subsides.

Answer me this. How is what Valve did exploitation? Admittedly, I haven't followed this issue very closely, but it seems to me that most people are angry at Valve and Bethesda taking a total 75% of the cut, while the modder was going to only take 25%. If that is really the issue, there is absolutely no grounds to say Valve was exploiting anybody.

A common argument is that the modder did more work than Valve to put the mod up, so they should be paid more. Who's to say who did more work? Perhaps Valve employees, particularly executives, did a whole lot more work to get to where they are and be able to make decisions like this than making a mod? More specifically, perhaps the setup required to make the whole paid mod system work in the first place, the time it took to communicate with the public, and all the costs associated with their project equals a bigger stake in the game than simply making a mod (even one on Faalskar's level). But again, who's to say who did more work? We don't know the full details behind what Valve had to accomplish.

But let me put it this way: It doesn't matter who did more work. Valve initiated the deal. They allowed people to create their own content, and in turn, Valve provided both a platform for the mod author to distribute their content and a system that allows paid transactions to take place in acquiring that content. Those are the dynamics of the situation. It doesn't matter if Valve wanted 0% of the cut, 25%, 50% 75%, or even 100%. It is a business deal. If the mod author doesn't like the cut, they shouldn't get involved. People always say that it's not fair though, because how could you make a living off of it? No one is entitled to make a living off of modding, or anything for that matter. If modding through Valve isn't reasonable to make a living off of, try modding through some place else, if no other place can provide a living for modding, then just try a different way of making money altogether. Don't complain at the payout though, as you are not entitled to anything. Again, I don't know exactly what happened in this situation as i have not spent much time following it; however, this way of thinking can be applied to other aspects of life.

To all the millennial hipsters out there: Remember, not all big corporations are evil. They're made up of people just like you and me. So next time a company like Valve puts a LOT of effort into building the framework for a project such as this, instead of demanding that they change and eventually pushing them to scrap most of what they had worked on, just don't participate. Go to other sites like the Nexus and continue to download free mods and don't pay for mods. That's your choice. But don't complain about everything.

The issue is this. What mods will have better quality? What kind of quality will be put into free mods if modders can make some pocket change? Do we really want to be nickled and dimed by mods? I would hope not. What about essential mods? Like SkyUI and such, what if they are locked behind a paywall? Should people who can't toss money around suffer? No they shouldn't. This issue is bigger than just finger pointing, and who gets a cut. Its something that can change the industry entirely, one that already shakes us down for money with DLC and other money grabbing gimmicks. We don't need Skyrim the hat simulator.

Anyways this is just my opinion, I will support modders, but I want that to remain a choice not a requirement.

It's been a few days. A bunch of exploitive dum dums rushed their thong armor and female eager followers to the workshop for a quick buck. Don't buy them, don't suffer the people who do. There will probably the collaborative effort that would have been impossible without the monetary resources to come out later. Not this month, or soonish, but the oft promised-seldom delivered DLC sized user made expansion is a little more feasible now.

Umm it went under son, and at the rates they were paying out and the people it takes to make a DLC sized mod (Trust me on this one I fricking know I've been working on discworld for over a year) it was completely off the table as far as profit motive. I would have to sell a million copys of DW at 5$ a piece at the least, to = two months of my current income. Not feasible, we do not have that big a user base to support this as a big scope idea, it would have made people a lot of money that did retextured weapon models, ripped content and the like, but as for big ones, nah.

A fair point. If they weren't gonna pay equitably, then the user donations would be better.

Well even at a heftier split it was still only piddly change for people who dont pump out tons of useless content. I mean look at falskaar, 800k unique d/l. Look at his credit list, I mean daaaaamn, the split would be insane, even if people only got fractions, not to mention taxes etc.

It is more in line with the amount of people to market to made it a no go anyway. We only have a few million constant mod d/l and how many of those would pay? It was beth/valve trying to suck water out of rocks in the desert, and being unabashed about it.

If we had a user base of 50 million, it's a diff story. But we don't and wont.

Not to mention all the rest of the hooplah with legality issues, cover of darkness, bad split etc. The whole thing feels like somebody didn't even give a crap.

That's the nexus tho, and Nexus probably shouldn't make money off of mods to properties they don't own. Steam has a big user base. If the modders could be paid reasonably and they put out some quality control on the outset (so at the very least they aren't illegally re-selling other game's assets) then this could have been okay.

The numbers were released and I think it was 5 million PC versions of skyrim, that's it, even if half of those bought mods it is not enough to support anything other than garbageware as far as the modder is concerned. Beth would still rake in bank because they literally do nothing.

Any website anywhere is free to make money from advertising, the nexus makes money off mods in the same way beth does, publicity. Except bethesda did us a one of and gave us a crippleware game and crippling creation kit that WE had to mod to make work better. Nexus supports us daily.

Lulz, silicon valley elite, this state is so bankrupt it's insane.

And that's the problem I am trying to sya, the internet is a massive world, modding communitys are such a small part, very small, tiny even, and when you fracture it to who could pay and will and what quality they would get from the paid mods? Would it have worked for some, yes, would it have been quality, hell no, was the legal ramifications scary as all hell, yes. It just needs to be done smarter

That's what I'm saying tho. Smarter. They had co-operation of Valve and Bethesda, all they had to do was quality control for misappropriated assets.
