What is it?
Ashien's Cursed Rings adds a selection of rings that effectively diminishes your ability to attack and defend.
Why?
Have you ever increased your difficulty and wondered: "Why are all my followers so much more powerful than than I am?" Have you ever wanted to use multiple followers without completely breaking the difficulty? Want to get one shot by a level 10 bandit on Legendary difficulty? Then these rings are for you!
There are three types of rings that you can use, all are balanced to effectively reflect the different difficulty settings. They cut down you or your follower's one-handed, two-handed, archery, and destruction damage, as well as your physical and magical resistances by a certain percentage:
Ashien's Weakly Cursed Ring - 25%, or the equivalent of playing on Expert.
Ashien's Effectively Cursed Ring - 50%, or the equivalent of playing on Master.
Ashien's Extremely Cursed Ring - 75%, or the equivalent of playing on Legendary.
They all use slot 55 so you can still use regular rings as well.
Where can I find them?
Just west of Riverwood, there is a broken tree stump, and hidden under some Ivy there is a satchel that contains the rings. See the images provided if you are having trouble finding it.
How do I install it?
Just extract the files into your data directory and activate the esp file. Done!
Usage tips
Say you want to play on Legendary difficulty with a follower. Normally your follower will become 3x stronger while you remain the same. Just give them one of Ashien's Extremely Cursed Rings, and no longer will they be a damage sponge that makes you look like a weakling in comparison.
If you want to use 2 followers instead of just one, give them both Ashien's Effectively Cursed Rings and now they will be far more balanced.
Requirements
Due to the way Skyrim handles fortify enchantments (mainly, they don't work on NPCs), there are two versions of this mod. One requires no additional mods, but doesn't feature the Cursed Destruction effect, so if you run with mage followers, their damage will unfortunately be untouched. However all the other effects are perfectly intact. The second version requires the NPC Enchant Fix portion of ASIS, which is a fantastic mod with even more great features. This seemed to be the only way I could get the destruction damage reduction to work with third party followers and not have to edit every follower in the base game (hello mod conflicts!).
Compatibility
This should be compatible with everything since it is only additional content, no changes. It will work very well with follower mods, and is actually what I made it for. If you have a mod that adds items which use slot 55, you just won't be able to wear both the rings and those items at the same time.
