About this mod

Air Helm is an invisible piece of zero-weight equipment that has the Light / Heavy helmet flag set, so the game recognizes you as wearing a helmet even when you're not.

Permissions and credits
Let's play: Spot the main character!

Let's face it, heroes don't wear helmets.

But you don't want to lose the "wear-a-full-set" perks, do you? [Custom Fit; Wind Walker; Deft Movement; Well Fitted; Cushioned; Tower of Strength; Reflect Blows]

Try the Air Helm. Comes in both Light and Heavy armor versions!

Remove Helmet Requirement From Armor Perk Bonuses [same result effect]

If you already have an invisible helmet mod installed and are okay with it, stick with that mod and don't install this one. It is not recommended to uninstall scripted mods without developer provision for uninstallation.

Comparison with similar mods:

Pros:
- Tiny, clean mod with just two entries. Compatible with everything and safe to uninstall. Zero impact on game.
- Does not cause all NPCs to lose their helmets, whether globally in the game or on helmet refresh.
- Some mods may cause changes made by other installed mods or even Update.esp to be reverted or overridden; this one doesn't.
- Some perk modifying mods cause conflict with other installed mods or miss out certain perks; this mod does not modify perks.
- Works with custom armor.

Cons:
- Does not give you your helmet armor rating.

Pertinent Information:
Air Helms use body slot 59.
Air Helms' armor rating is 0.
You can wear an Air Helm and a helmet at the same time.

I wrote this mod because I wanted to not wear my helmet - hey! I spent so long designing my character's face and now I'm not even going to see it? - and because I am afraid of mods that change lots of things. Because as with any mod that changes a whole lot of things, there is always the risk of breaking your game or your save if the developer isn't careful.

Why not have just one invisible helmet?

Leave your Air Helm equipped and unequip your helmet to retain all the benefits of wearing a full set of light or heavy armor, minus your helmet's AR of course. Unlike other mods, this doesn't make all NPCs lose their helmets. There can only be one hero, after all. Wouldn't want them to think you're part of the common rabble now.

Air Helm is an invisible piece of zero-weight equipment that has the Light / Heavy helmet flag set, so the game recognizes you as wearing a helmet even when you're not.

Of course, the same effect could be achieved by changing the Light/Heavy Armor perks and deleting the condition that checks for a helmet. If you would like to take this route, check out some of the linked similar mods. There is a possibility of incompatibility if you have other mods that change the same perks.

Install
No crafting recipes here - you can't craft air.
Enable the ESP, then give yourself the item with the console. Open the console with the ~ tilde key, then type player.additem <item code> 1.
Item codes:
XX000D62 - Air Helm (Light)
XX000D63 - Air Helm (Heavy)

XX denotes the mod index (load order) of this mod. You should be able to see this value in your mod manager. If you have trouble finding the item code, enter help "Air Helm" in the console.

Example: player.additem 11000D62 1

Uninstall
Safe to uninstall? Absolutely.
Unequip Air Helm.
Untick and delete the ESP.
