UPDATE: I'm finished the quaterhorse mesh and I'm going to rethink the foal mesh. In order to get the foal body proportions right I would have to edit the skeleton rigging and re-weight the mesh, which I'm terrible at! So will skip it for now.
I DO now have 18 brand spanking new horse breeds I settled on:
Sooty blood bay (Dapple) Blue Roan Cherry Chestnut Blanket Appaloosa (chestnut) Standard Chestnut Black White Sooty Gold Brindle Gold Buckskin (dapple) Cremello Choc/Liver Flaxen Fleabitten Grey Grey Dapple Grey pinto (dapple) Grullo Leopard Appaloosa (black/White) Palomino (dark) Pinto (chestnut) I'm going to make half the breeds mare and half stallion since the amazing Slof is letting me use the staillion mesh.
I think 18 horses in ONE stable is too much and I'm not really sure how to implement these new breeds into the game. I am now thinking the scenario for the 'Stable' will hopefully be something like this:
A nomadic camp of horse herders, either around riften or rorikstead which have driven the herd (obtained in a not quite legal manner) from cyrodill to sell in skyrim. WIll maybe be a fenced off paddock and a basic hitching post type set up. I kind of want it to be like convenient horses, where they are being herded around by dogs, and stay within a certain radius of the camp. I'm also thinking of having an essential 'Lead stallion/Mare' NPC for the herd to centre on. You can either buy 5 horses immediately, or there will be a short quest where you then find evidence of the dubious 'origins' of the horses and pressure the nomads into selling the entire herd for a reasonable amount. Not sure how to put all this together, and will need two or 3 voice actors I think. I will maybe pop one or two on some selected farms for people to pinch.
Love the videos. If you didn't know, Scandinavia have their own breed or breeds of Appaloosa, it is lore friendly if your thinking about geography. The herd idea sounds good, it sounds like a quest. Wild horses could be loose in Skyrim, they would look like the hardier breeds. If you worked with the/a Stables mod, they would have their own local suppliers, and the herding aspect is totally credible for a cottage industry of a family. This is how isolated ranches would raise their stock, horses or cattle, sometimes with dogs which would be natural for Skyrim. I remember a horse someone I knew had, it was an appaloosa 17 hands high, extremely calm, and extremely slow. It wasn't very muscular, kind of lanky. I found out that the European forests before and during the time of the Romans had a Forest Horse that didn't live in herds, it lived mostly singly, like a Moose might. This is probably where the large horses of the medieval knights came from, when they were bred with perhaps Viking ponies who were incredibly muscular and strong. The Vikings may have brought them to America. The Morgan horse, which exists as a reconstructed breed now, was originally very much like a Viking pony, but very fine as well. During WWI tens of thousands of these horses were used to draw heavy artillery. The breeding programs destroyed the Morgan breed, because they bred for size and military. After the war, they didn't want to ship them back, so they were slaughtered for the hungry people I suppose. After all everything was becoming mechanized. There were no more true Morgan horses in the United States. Essentially they died out. Reminds me of Skyrim tragedies. Thank you, great horses, will download. Grillo stripes?
Yus!! Grullo horse is done. Just waiting on a way to get them in game which is believeable. Having issues with my pc and CK, it keeps crashing when I try to load exterior cells. :/
Perhaps an option to customize your personal horse, like a simplified race menu for horses. Choosing the horse's race could pick between primitive, quarterhorse, stallion, etc. You could set the scale, color pattern, etc. Sounds like a lot of work though.
I really like how u make them look realistic, and with that wolf re-texture mod you made as well, amazing work u should try to do a fox or bear re-texture I'm sure u would do an amazing job !
You could just figure out how to place them at the vanilla stables or just plop them in a farm some where o3o. I can't wait to see how they turn out X3...
Hey, I know it's a small thing, but I noticed something with this mod and the convenient horses mod, specifically with armors that are supposed to cover the mane. The manes of the horses from this mod have their manes clip through the decorative armor from convenient horses. Like I said, I know it's tiny, but is there any way to have that altered in some way?
I think the area around riften is going to be too dense with trees and things to put a herd of horses down, somewhere in Whiterun Hold would probably be best. It would make sense too, they would bring the herd somewhere where they can graze easily. As some other people suggested, a few MCM options would be super cool. Personally I'd like the ability to turn on/off the stallion mesh. I feel like horse cock n' balls isn't really a vital addition to my Skyrim world.
If you want a suggestion for a horse breed I'd say the Prezwalski horse. Distinct look and they look like they'd fit right in in Skyrim. And thanks for these awesome textures, they're really great. I always use them.
I don't know if I would want to buy so many horses though I can't wait to have a pinto horse with your textures. I love those. Would it be possible to have something similar to vanilla Skyrim's dialogue? Like - they herd f.e. five horses, sell them for slightly less than the stables since they are "stolen" and you can choose which one oyu want in dialogue? Or would that be much more complicated? Then again the quest-line idea makes sense.
This has to be the best horse mod on nexus ,If I use any other horse mod I can end up stuck on the horse or flying across the map but with your horses this does not happen .,Top mod thank you .
What you should do is have different horses randomly appear in the stables about every 30 game days or so. This would simulate the inventory moving and give a reason to stop by and check out the new horses from time to time. Maybe even give the stables the ability to buy back your old horse if you see a new one you like.
Anybody out there still playing Oldrim and is having issues with textures showing up, make sure the plugin has priority over Convenient Horses (below it on the plugin list in MO2). For some reason this fixed it for me. LOOT keeps trying to change it back though.
great, the horses at least seem real now like some primitive horse breeds look but the Halflinger is a modern breed created by crossing the local draft horse type mares with Arabian thoroughbred stallions which created a breed in the 19th century so the Halflinger is not an ancient breed like the fjord, which has been bred purebred in norway for almost 1000 years in the rest of europe, was introduced after the second world war, unlike most heavy draft horses, the fjord, like the friesian, could also be used as a riding horse and light draft horse, and the friesian is also a very old breed, the friesian horse is one of the oldest horse breeds in europe, still bred and immensely popular, horses of this breed are still sold for high prices. used to have a care horse a mare of the friesian breed for which people once offered more than a million for the owner did not sell her because she was her best mare later she was cared for and ridden by me I learned to ride her really well. she was a sweet lady even in her old age she was a nice horse for advanced riders she has become very old for a friesian horse almost 40 years.I still miss her after all these years of crossing the woods together yes because Melina loved the gallop and she didn't hold back if it was up to her you were in gallop the whole lesson and I rode a lot with her. Melina helped me get over my fear of the gallop after I fell off another horse and badly bruised my hip, my whole leg was blue by the way I hadn't ridden for two weeks at the time and my old care horse for Melina died at that time as my dear Brammetje had still been alive then, then I would have been on a horse again sooner, he was a giant of a horse just like his younger brother, but he beat so well and bravely that he has never run aground, at least with me and I think he knew he, his little brother Jelle and Melina were not running wild. All three would rather stand still than run away.
-I updated to AE v1.6.353 in Steam -I also have this mod https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/7685 -in 1.6.342 they "Fixed Palomino Horses missing mane textures" -The result was the mane had z-fighting black and white textures. it's as ugly as your grandmother. -The comments from the SSE modpage have been locked. I don't know where else to go. help pls.
The Anniversary Update introduced this glitch. They separated the mane mesh from the horse meshes so now it's enforcing itself upon all horses. I made the mane textures completely transparent to fix this, and it saves me from using another plugin.
i've tried multiple times with all versions of the mod and yet i can't manage to get any texture but frost's to show up ingame. other people seem to have had this problem but their comments are years old.
coming back months later to report that vortex seems to be the issue because when installed using the classic nmm, it works perfectly. very odd, especially when i couldn't even manually install the textures. so if you're installing this mod in 2020+, use nmm in addition to vortex.
I used this extensively in Oldrim and would even say its in my top three must haves, at least for textures! I was thrilled when I found it had been ported to SSE but it didn't have the white frost texture - at least that I could see - and for reasons I can't explain, it didn't play well in my game. In the end, I ported it myself for personal use and its perfect! So happy. Thank you for making my game better - endorsed!
not a single horse, this are all mules that is not true Fjord horses has grey noses and what you do you know about lighter noses by horses. I once had a pitchblack horse but her nose was lightbrown we call that a flour muzzle and it is quite common for dark collored horse to have one. good work here i see an exmoor pony that at least looks like an exmoor in terms of color and markings.
I am already using True Wolves and would love to use this mod as well since it looks amazing, but it is not working for me. Only Frost's appearance was updated, but the buy-able and carriage horses remain unchanged. I have tried reinstalling, re-downloading, placing at at the bottom of my load order, but it won't work for any horse but Frost. Now he is the only one looking all shiny and HD. Does anyone know what the issue could be? I downloaded version 2.3 with installer and I am using Convenient Horses and Horses Revamped (animations only, so there should be no conflict).
I'm having the same issue. Tried the installer version and non installer version. I've used this in the past with Convenient Horses with no problem. Not sure why it's not working now.
I love this mod it makes the horses look so much better! Second Krittakitty mod in my load order (True wolves being first). I do have a question though. Is there a way to stop the mane from clipping through heavier armors from convenient horses? Other than that I have no problems even works with unique frost from convenient horses just loaded him after this mod. Just need to get used to the new Markarth horse color. xD
