DOWNPOUR was originally designed to make the vanilla rain effect more dramatic, but now we have fadingsignal's excellent mod True Storms - Thunder and Rain Redone. This mod takes the rain effect to another level, as well as greatly enhancing the sounds of thunder. It makes for a much more immersive experience when it rains in Skyrim.

Because of this, my original DOWNPOUR texture was not a good fit. The True Storms mod increases the rain effect, so my texture becomes overkill. Therefore, I created a new rain texture to work with fadingsignal's enhanced rain effect. My aim was to make the Skyrim rain appear more transparent and realistic. I designed it to work with my retextures of the Wet and Cold drip effect and the Splash of Rain droplet. Hopefully, everything will look in balance now.

I tried to harmonize three of the best (and most popular) rain effect mods with my retextures. I hope people like the results.

    Cheers,
    Gamwich

    Hello Skyrim modders,

I've added my Skyrim rain retexture to the mix. Another (of many) choices to replace the wimpy vanilla rain texture. I decided to pump up the volume a bit and make rain a more dramatic effect in game. Skyrim was always depicted as a harsh climate, so why does it only drizzle when it rains? This retexture endeavors to change that situation. Rain is now a much heavier and dramatic occurrence.

I strongly suggest using the Splash of Rain mod with this to get the best effect of heavy rainfall. Try using one of the higher settings for more splashes to match the heavier rain.

Thanks for visiting, and I hope people enjoy this mod.

    Cheers,
    Gamwich

UPDATE: Added desaturated option for people with ENBs that enhance the colors enough to make the rain appear too blue in game. Should give a much more subtle color effect.

UPDATE 2: Added a lighter desaturated version for people with ENBs that darken the rain. This one makes the finer drops more visible in game (slightly more opaque).

UPDATE 3: Added a totally desaturated version so there's no added color. An option for people who's ENB adds too much saturation to the rain. Or, for those who don't want any color to their rain.

UPDATE 4: Added version 1.1 which adjusts the placement of some drops, as well as changes to saturation and transparency. This is the new "universaL" version that I think should work for the majority of users.

UPDATE 5: Added a Performance Version for people with lower end PCs. This version is twice the resolution of the vanilla texture. It doesn't have as much variety as the regular version due to the smaller dimensions, but the effect is still quite similar in game.

UPDATE 6: Apologies to people who downloaded the Performance Version. One of the folders was incorrectly named. I've uploaded a fixed version 1.0.1, so any who downloaded the Performance Version should get the updated file.

UPDATE 3/22/15 - I've added a retexture I made for the popular Wet and Cold mod. Frostfall also use the Wet and Cold drip effect, so this replacer works for it as well. I thought the default rain drip effect on your character and NPCs had droplets that were a little too big (and opaque) to be entirely realistic. I retextured the effect to have finer droplets. Just a little tweak to make the effect more immersive.

UPDATE 3/22/15 - Retexture of the droplet from the popular Splash of Rain mod added. This is tough to show in a screenshot, but I softened the effect so it doesn't look so much like a hard edged white opaque shape. It's quite a tiny texture, so nothing dramatic, but it should appear a little more realistic now.

UPDATE 3/25/15 - Version 1.3 of the Combo Pack and version 1.1 of the Splash of Rain optional download has a revised version of the splash droplet to make it more visible (especially with ENBs).

UPDATE 5/20/15 - Version 1.4 of the Combo Pack changes the folder name for the Splash of rain effect to fit the new Wonders of Weather mod, which combines Splash of Rain, Rainbows, and Shooting Stars into a single download. I've also added the Wonders of Weather Patch as a separate optional file.

I’m going to try porting it over to SE manually and find out if it works

Any chance of this coming to SSE to be used with those newer weather mods like Vivid Weathers, Rustic Weathers, or Natural And Atmospheric Tamriel? These always were the best rain textures, and no one seems to have been able to make any better ones even though new weather mods have accomplished so much else.

I'd recommend giving Aequinoctium a go. Amazing rain textures and arguably the best weather mod out at the moment from a quality perspective. Obviously the style needs to suit you though.

The one thing that always killed my joy is popup landscape. Although my box can handle ugrids 7, the popup textures still sucks. The mist that comes with the rain helped in obscuring this ugliness, so I was wondering if you could create a simple two state weather system of 2/3 to 3/4 mist and 1/4 to 1/3 rain/snow. It would make for a haunting Skyrim especially at night. Thanks

I just make textures..... weather systems are beyond me. Try looking for other mods that change the weather and fog.

I suddenly got hit by the desire to play Skyrim again and finally, FINALLY I found the perfect rain texture for my game. Real Rain I really liked but it didn't go too well with Splashes of Rain. True Storms is great too but the rain texture was a bit too sharp and visible for my tastes. This one makes it more transparent and realistic AND it fits with splashes of rain. Awesome. Endorsed.

I did'n t use wet and cold, but I want the drip effect. If I use this MOD drip effect only, will it work well?

No, my mod only contains textures, you still need the other mod to make the drip effect work.

This looks great! I'm hoping to find weather that matches Real Shelter, while under shelter the rain and snow does not match up with unshelterd textures, is this ok to use with RS? Or could you please recommend a mod that works with RS? as it's so immersion breaking! thank you.

The More Rain mod says that it's compatible with any rain retexture.

Oops, this mod (Combo Pack) is another Gamwich-Gem (imo) I have overlooked so far. Rain, drip effect and droplet (wet and cold, splash of rain) look - superb; you exceeded "your aim" imo
Thank you for this. Endorsement (as usual) goes without saying.
