For anyone having issue with this mod or any other that attempts the same goal, the Lite version of this mod accomplishes manual crossbow reloading perfectly. I have had issues with every other mod I've tried, but "Manual Crossbow Reload Lite" is the only one that does the job for me.
The first being crossbows will sometimes randomly reload themselves. Which can be a huge problem in the middle of a fight. The other is even worse, sometimes not only will the crossbow not reload at all, forcing you to unequip crossbow and bolt, equip some other item, then reequip crossbow and bolt, but will also make all your bolts disappear from your inventory for a while.
Normal vanilla auto reload is much less of a bother.
I've had those problems as well. Other issues I've had are that the crossbow will sometimes revert to vanilla behavior (i.e. automatically reloading after every shot) and if I'm carrying more than one type of bolts, it will often switch between them at random when I reload. Both of these issues are extremely irritating. Auto-reloading defeats the whole purpose of this mod, and having to correct your ammo all the time is annoying as well.
I realize that these problems probably have more to do with Skyrim's scripting system than the mod itself, so they probably can't be fixed. What's especially frustrating to me is that this mod shouldn't have been necessary in the first place. Bethesda shouldn't have done auto-reloading to begin with. If they'd made crossbows work the right way, we wouldn't need an imperfect mod to fix them.
does this work with normal bows? i cant tell! you said it did at the start of the description but its not mentioned anywhere else. after downloading the mod and testing it with normal bows it does not seem to work and i cant find any setting in the mcm for it. what am i missing?? i want to use bows but be able to fire a arrow and get behind cover and knock the arrow in my own good time instead of having to wait for my character to reload the arrow right after shooting one.
currently i am using the archery overhaul mod specifically for the animations. if you could somehow make it so that bows act the same way as crossbows so that after firing a arrow you have to click a keybind to play the arrow nocking animation so you could fire again. you would be a legend and have my thanks
So I finally decided to come back to Skyrim after purchasing the rest of the DLC packs I was missing and have been having a blast with all the awesome mods that are out there now. This one I especially enjoy because it makes xbows act the way I expect them to. No problems here until i wanted to be a vampire hunter and downloaded the Inquisitor armor pack with Van Helsing Crossbow by mjy. That crossbow is supposed to be automatic just like in the movie, but I ran into a very annoying and slow reload every time i stopped firing. I had thought that since this mod worked so well for the normal xbows, that it would just skip the reloading part of the Van Helsing Crossbow allowing me to fire at will, but no. It actually seems to have turned off the automatic fire completely and makes it act just like any other single fire xbow. I realize that this mod was not made for automatic xbows so i'm not really surprised lol, I just thought you should know how it affects that mod.
So, I finally decided to start modding crossbows and came across this gem of a mod. After some short play testing, everything worked perfectly, even with my 280some mods running. I only ran into a funny glitch (but it's not game breaking.) Just look at these screenshots. Nothing is wrong other than the wrong/no model is used. The fix is just sheath and unsheath. If that doesn't work, unequip and reequip. This seems to only happen when you switch between bows and crossbows without another weapon in-between. I minor inconvenience and could throw you off in the middle of battle, but still 100% useable.
Your scripting constantly misfires and repeats itself. I've instances where it'll not activate, switch to ammo that's not for the crossbow and equip it to the crossbow (causing a CTD) and other fun things.
Hey, I have a bug in certain areas, near a keep with lots of hostile NPCs for one, where it will force a bolt reload when aiming or after shooting every 3-8 seconds.
The lite version does not have this issue, but it keeps spamming my top left messages with " Damn, I'm out of bolts! " (something close to that). Which is pretty annoying in itself, ! I'm never happy, I know.
I love your mod compared to the other popular one with the forced pouch/quiver system. Would be nice to have this sorted, .
