I would like to know that too. I installed it anyway... Looks the menu doesn't open anymore, but I will test a little longer.

EDIT: On starting the game said "Enchanter's quill removed" and then "added", so I thought it was "replaced" automatically, but it was not. I removed the old version and added new Calligrapher's Tools and it looks it works OK. TES5Edit looks right, but I am not an expert with it so I might overlooked it.

Thanks for keeping the SkyRe file! This mod actually allowed me to create scrolls in the first place as "using" the quill did nothing for me in the game.

Great mod so far. I've a few questions thou, and a suggestion.

First the suggestion: you should tell the people how to use your mod. I mean, nowhere on the description page said how to use it. I've run TES5Edit to know that the scribing tools are now called "Calligrapher's tools". The video is "outdated", or at least incomplete, because it shows running on skyre, not perma.

    So to the questions:
I tried to create the tool, but its nowhere to be found. Checked out the TES5Edit tool and saw that we need a:
    - 1 Silver ingot.
    - 1 Firewood.
    - 1 common soulgem.
    - 1 Quill.

(I cheated to test the mod).

I've got the materials but the recipes didn't appear. Where are they? I got the "Basic Scripture" perk.

Btw, i'm having problems with the exp. It giving way too much. How can i disabled it? I tried putting 0 in the value that shows the photo below, but didn't work. Also i re-run pama.

Finally, it's normal to see the enchanter's quill from T3nd0s, or it's intended?

    Nice mod. Congrats and thanks.

i believe in the last update i included two recipes , one with a full slgm and the other with an empty one, and set conditions so only one would show up depending on what you got.

either however requires basic scripture. exscrolls need to be loaded after perma, if you hadn't run the patcher in a while and don't want to just load it after the patcher, please tell me if things change.

the experience problem has mostly to do with a conflict i still can't locate, if you read further down you'll see that i went back and forth buffing then nerfing what is essentially a multiplier in a perk from perma you'll find a screenshot of said multiplier, i couldn't replicate the bug myself :/

i really apologize for not keeping description up to date, it has been a busy year , hopefully i'll be done with finals this week i'll look into it.

i have more recipes, and a half complete grimoire system planned.

Oh, no, life comes first sir, do not apologize for this. My was just a suggestion, not a criticism.

      My order list:

      SkyRe Artifacts.esp
      ExScrollAndQuill.esp
      CollegeDaysPermaPatch.esp
      PerMaDefluffedPerkDescriptions.esp
Alternate Start - Live Another Life.esp
      Pre PaMa CCF Patch.esp
      Pre PaMa WAFR CCOR Patch.esp
      Tes5MergePatch.esp
      Bashed Patch, 0.esp
      ASIS-Dependency.esp
      ASIS.esp
      PatchusMaximus.esp
      Dual Sheath Redux Patch.esp

This are my last plugins. Above are the others, such as perkus_master, mage, etc.

I change that value that you mentioned. First i nerfed, then i change the value to 0. But it still give the same espectacular exp haha.
And, yes, i re-run the batch and perma patch.

For the recipe, with an empty soulgem it not appear. I'll try with a full one.

      Thanks for the reply.

      YES! That was the problem!

Still i can't figure where the recipe is (with the empty soulgem). Maybe with a filled soulgem appear. When the times comes, and have some in my hand, i'll try again and report back.

Thanks for the solution to my EXP problem. I leave the multiplier with the one that you put and is excellent.

Still can't believe that defflufed was the problem. Now that i checked on tes5edit it was quiet obvious that was overwritten.

      Thanks again.

P.S: Of course you all shall overwrite the description from permadefluffed, so you can understand the perk haha.

Mod is working but, it needs more recipes for roll of papers, since there are so many for inks...

at a loosely relative time in real history, vellum (bovine hide) was used not paper, expensive and not as abundant as is paper and literacy in skyrim.

if we want to look at a time period where paper of that quality was that abundant, we'll find that linen fiber was used, not wood, worn out rags were collected in mills and ground in water till turning into a white soup. then made into paper.

while that is still way more easier than making pulp from firewood at a cooking pot it's still not a thing you'd do ... in a cooking pot.

i'd rather have 1 or 2 mills located in solitude riften or whiterun.

Hi there, I've never used the scroll enchanting system, but it would fit into my enchanter/alchemist playthrough without using mana.
Does your mod offer crafting the paper out of ruined books, too or is it already in SkyRe?

    Thanks!

Great concept Mod, was looking for something like this! What about all the other books? can they also be turned to roll of paper?? maybe each book have a different id, and would be a huge task to code all that.

Also we all know that paper come from Wood, so maybe there could be a recipe for it in the cooking pot, 1 firewood = 1 roll of paper (think they have similar values, 6 firewood sells for 30gold at inn´s, 1 roll paper =6 gold).

BTW Perkus is at patch 1.3 is this compatible? if so this mod should be in Perma links, and maybe incorporated in next 1.4 patch!

I just found your mod, I have been looking for something like it for months, so thanks for all your hard work. I think with a little TLC it can become vary popular.
I'm unable to get this mod to work with Perma, I still gain 7 levels of enchanting after crafting something.

I did learn some things in the process that might help others:

If used with Perma v1.1 all scrolls will be zero duration and zero damage so use v1.2 perma or the old version of scroll and quill for 1.1 perma.
If the load order is not correct ie you have this before Perma .esp's the scroll menu will be blank.
If use without Patchusmaximus the scroll menu will be blank.
If EXscrollandquill.esp is loaded after Patchusmaximus the enchanting levels gained will increase farther 60 to 71 instead of 60 to 67
Skill gain is affected by the Mage Stone.

x4554ul7 Could you upload a version without any skill gains for scroll making? At least until a solution is found

Hia x4554ul7 I have installed your latest version, after re-runing patchusmaxius it looks like all is well, I no longer get to much exp for crafting a scroll.
It did not work at first, rerunning patchusmaximus was necessary to get it to work.

I will post back if I have any other issues but it all looks great!

      Thanks!

Hey x4554ul7, I was stumped by T3nd0's shortcomings on scroll crafting and was really happy when I stumbled upon this mod. However, I have a problem... I have installed your mod, moved it under PerMa in my load order, ran PaMa, and crafting a single Firebolt Scroll still gives me enough xp to level my Enchanting skill from 18 to 47!

I'm using Apocalypse Spells scrolls (PaMa makes me), which could be the cause of the problem, but I don't want to ditch a perfectly good spell mod in order to make vanilla scrolls.

Am I clearly doing something wrong, or haven't I done something I should have? I really hope this insane experience gain is unintended, since you specifically address it. The strangest thing is that the scroll I craft is literally worth no gold, so I don't even understand how it's giving me xp.

what are the prices on these scrolls you're crafting.  what version of skyrim do you have ? do you have any mods that change the crafted scrolls prices ?

to not let you hanging for an update, although i'll try and do it as soon as i figure out what's going on, i'll explain to you how it goes:
the game calculates the amount of xp following this formula XP = 3 × item value^0.65 + 25.

earlier versions used to take weight in consideration instead of value.
on an other hand, enchanting wasn't meant to be leveled using this system,  hence  where it takes a figurative 10 000 skill points to go from 40 to 41 smithing . a figurative 100 xp in enchanting will get you from 18to 47.

my initial version was calibrated to skyre's scroll ranging price from 25 to 300. however sometime later in PerMa, T3nd0 made crafted scroll prices == 0.
so you'd only get the +25* the 0.001 mult i put in.  you can find lower in the comment allstrife asking how to increase that multiplier. for me setting it to 0.005 helped.

in the newer Perma Version,  you'd still be able to craft books that have prices 80+. and i hadn't noticed in my game any huge skill boost.

if you're handy with TESVEDIT look in the basic scripture perk for a 0.005000 float value and tweak it.
imma go craft some scrolls and see for now

I have Skyrim version 1.9.32.0, official game, with all the DLC (Dawnguard, Hearthfire, Dragonborn). My load order has around 90 mods in it, so I'm not going to paste it in here. I think these are the most relevant files in order of loading:

      All the unofficial patches
      Trade Routes
      Trade & Barter
Complete Crafting Overhaul (not sure if it's relevant, but it might change things)
      Apolacypse v706
      More Apocalypse v706
      Perkus Maximus + lockpick hotfix
      Apocalypse - PerMa compatibility patch
      This mod
      PaMa

I have made a screenshot of what my scrollcrafting screen looks like here:
      http://i.imgur.com/4yOiAsu.jpg
As you can see, the value of the scroll is 0 gold. I'm not at all experienced with modding, but my guess would be that that's causing the problem. Also, I reported the wrong skill level - it levels from 15 to 47 with one Firebolt [Scroll].

I'm not handy at all with TESVEDIT but I have managed to find the value. I will test it for a bit.
While I was there I also found that the Apocalypse PerMa patch keeps the value of scrolls between 50 and 500 gold, but PaMa changes that back to 0 gold. If I change all the values of all the scrolls in PaMa through TESVEDIT, do you know if that would cause problems? And would I need to do it again if I rerun the patcher?

Okay, I changed the value in TES5Edit from 0.005000 to 0.001500 (the original value, I believe), but crafting the same Firebolt [Scroll] still levels me from 15 to 47 enchanting. Is there a way to set a fixed amount of skill experience for scrollcrafting? I don't really mind novice scrolls leveling me equally fast as master scrolls, compared to this insane leveling.

      Edit:
I just changed the value of the Firebolt [Scroll] from 0 to 25 through TES5Edit, and crafted a scroll worth 25 gold... here is the result:
      http://i.imgur.com/D8WxjE7.jpg
57 enchanting. So my guess is, the amount of experience I received was doubled (25 gold initial value plus the 25 you add through the mod), which means something's definitely going wrong in the formula itself.

there isn't a way i can think of to make all crafting recipe give the same xp,experience reward is something calculated by the engine internally. we could apply modifiers to it using perk entry points. the formula isn't mine , i took it off uesp and it describes how the engine behaves.

as i explained crafting items xp reward isn't scaled for the enchanting skill, so all i did was multiply it by 0.00x. this multiplier only apply when conditions are matched.
-the skill school should be a magical school (the mage stone blessing)
-the player must be using my precise furniture the calligraphers tools

the only thing that can influence this is a perk the boosts magic xp ... vanilla perks, GELO enchantments, race and standing stone mods i know of use multipliers (+5% + 20%) .. these should still keep xp in scale and behave the same with destruction as with enchanting.

the only thing i can think of is a perk that uses the add value function instead of apply multiplier, thus adding a flat out of scale sum (since 100 skill xp points can push you 10 skill levels), this flat sum wouldn't even be touched by other perks ie: my mod

A firestorm tome costing 1250+ gold gets me from 70 to 71 with +40% magic skill from standing stone and Disparity class.

i couldn't otherwise reproduce your problem :( , maybe pasting your load order somewhere and link it here would help

I figured I'd just remove Apocalypse, since PerMa already adds new spells. Started a new character, I'll check and if applicable report if the experience behaves strangely when I get to enchanting.

I also have the way to much exp issue, i go from 61 to around 70 by crafting a single fire bolt scroll. I do have the mage stone active if that still could be a issue.

      Also some minor issues:
The scribing tools item is not a "physical" item? if dropped it just floats in the air and can't be picked up again.
Some of the names of items are not exactly the same as in your photo.

I will do some more testing later, let me know if you need any more info.

i think this kind of mod is fantastic. i know that it doesn't have much exposure and attention, but having a more involved crafting process(in at least some areas) is a big plus in my eyes. Thanks for creating this
