Somber Dreams presets require 0.265 or newer ENB binaries available from ENBDev. If the link doesn't work, go to http://enbdev.com/download_mod_tesskyrim.htm.

06 Mar 2015: I have updated Somber 3 to include bilinear filtering of bloom (code provided by prod80) to account for changes to bloom texture size in Skyrim ENB 0.266 binaries. Additionally, reflection power/amount values for interiors have been set to account for these new values. Users of Somber luce lucida should continue to use 0.265 binaries for the time being. A download link is available on the files page.

01 Nov 2014: Somber luce lucida released! Please see below for information on this preset.

    Somber luce lucida

Somber luce lucida began as an overhaul of Somber 3 but evolved into something very different. Inspired by Somber 3's natural colors, Somber Unchained's cold, fantasy feel and some other sources, luce lucida (lucid light) provides a bright contrast to the hazy and sometimes dream-like Somber 3. I would like to thank Prod80 for his generosity as luce lucida uses much of his code used in Serenity ENB and I would also like to thank him for his inexhaustible help with all of my questions. Most importantly, I would like to make it clear that this preset would not have been possible were it not for my friend, Tansarville. Many people may believe that Tansarville has retired from ENB modding, but nothing could be futher from the truth. She has continued to develop and test countless ENB shaders and effects and has been an invaluable resource to myself and others. Somber luce lucida is based on the Somber Crescent Shader, an enbeffect.fx file assembled by Tansarville to bring superior ENB effects together in a logical and efficient shader file with full GUI support. Tansarville is the owner of this shader file.

    Complementary, compatible and conflicting mods:

Enhanced Lighting for ENB (ELE) - Lite The interiors only version of ELE works very well with Somber luce lucida. Should not be used together with Dark Dungeons or Further Dark Dungeons. Note that this version of ELE is not finished but is preferred over the full ELE-Interiors module as it correctly restores fog to interiors that should have it.
Relighting Skyrim works well with Somber luce lucida. Both ELE Lite (interiors) and Relighting Skyrim complement one another nicely for fixed interior lighting.
Revamped Exterior Fog is not required and for the best visual quality should not be used with luce lucida. Somber 3 still requires this mod.
Supreme and Volumetric Fog is entirely compatible with Somber luce lucida as it does not require Revamped Exterior Fog (these mods conflict with one another).
Remove Interior Fog should not be used with these presets as fog is a necessary component of interior lighting.
Lighting mods not specifically listed should not be used as they change RGB colors, fog values and light intensities. These presets are based on default lighting, so the use of these mods will result in an appearance that is different from that intended.
Weather mods should not be used with this preset. Somber luce lucida includes full weather support for all weathers included in Skyrim, Dawnguard and Dragonborn. These weathers were tuned based on default values and were not intended to be used with altered weathers, nor is there any support for custom weathers created by mods.

Letterbox: The letterbox vignette can be controlled via the EFFECT shader in the ENB GUI. Enable the letterbox and select a letterbox size (in %). The ReadMe.txt includes a list of letterbox sizes necessary to achieve common cinematic widescreen aspect ratios.

Cloud textures: Somber luce lucida was developed with JawZ's cloud textures from ELE. These textures provide the proper amount of brightness for clouds but can occasionally have seams. Different cloud textures may not provide the proper amount of brightness or the correct balance between clouds and sky gradients. Please keep this in mind when selecting your cloud textures.

Sun textures: This preset uses procedural sun, so sun textures are not required. I recommend removing any sun.dds or sunglare.dds files you may have installed.

Somber 3 and Somber luce lucida were developed around default lighting and weather and will look best without any mods that make changes to these aspects of the game engine. However, Somber luce lucida may be used with ELE Lite (interiors only) and Relighting Skyrim. As these presets include full weather setups, no weather mods will be supported.

wondering what would cause my pc's eyes to turn black in certain interior locations. i have tried several fixes, and have reinstated a few times, hopefully someone has the knowledge here. I have only see this with this enb, and I have used 8 different enbs- yes I deleted all files associated with each enb before installing. im using the latest enb binaries - 0.44 i believe

Also, I ran into one tree that was soooo bright! like the gods had planted it! not sure what would cause that

Otherwise I really like this enb, its really good at interiors! overall feel seems to suit Skyrim. Thank you for sharing your work!

Look at the installation section of the description page and check a few things:
What is your iBlurDeferredShadowMask set to in SkyrimPrefs? If set to 3, try setting to 4 or 5.
Is Ambient Occlusion disabled in your graphics card driver?
What version of ENB binaries are you using? Note that this preset has not been tested with the latest binaries.

Thank you so much I moved the ambient occlusion of my skyrim (in my video driver) and it worked really thank you very much, I sent this message for translate because I am Brazilian and I don't know much English but thank you for helping me. I'm very thankful.

De nada. Me alegro de poder ayudar. (I hope that's correct - English: I'm glad I could help.)

ENB for Skyrim does its own form of Ambient Occlusion and enabling AO in the graphics card drivers when ENB is trying to do it creates some very strange (and undesirable) effects.

Somber Dreams, and Grim and Somber, best ENBs ever made. Wish they would make a comeback for SSE.

I did but i still wasn't 100% sure. I mainly want your enb for outdoor lighting changes. Looking at the screenshots it looks very beautiful. With that said I love Enhance Lights and FX it's easily the best interior lighting mod out there.

I plan to start a fresh save file seeing as there's nothing else to do on my LVL175 character. I'll probably uninstall ELandFX and all the other lighting mods I have and just use your enb without any lighting mods or weather mods and see if I like it :)

So I went ahead and did just that. Uninstalled CoTV, ELandFX, Dynavision, etc etc (pretty much every mod that affects lighting in any way). I installed your EnB Somber 3 with the required distant fog mod. I followed your instructions to the letter and everything is working perfectly. The ENB looks even more beautiful in real time the screen shots don't do it justice. It looks great.

However im running into a little problem that's very distracting. Whenever I press "start" on my controller to bring up my quest journal, settings, mcm etc etc the screen "flashes" with a bright white light for like a second. It's very distracting and kinda "kills" it for me. Is this normal or did I **** up with the installation?

That's an odd one. White screens are usually a result of not removing all the files from the previous ENB preset before installing a new one.

Does the problem occur when you access the game menu by pressing ESC (the default key), or is it only the game controller that causes it?
Does it occur in interiors and exteriors?
What is the manufacturer of your video card (e.g. Intel, Nvidia, AMD)? Do you use SLI or the equivalent AMD equivalent (Crossfire)? If so, try disabling it in your graphics card control panel.
What is VideoMemorySizeMb= set to in your enblocal.ini file and how much VRAM does your graphics card have? This value should be set to a maximum of (VRAM + RAM - 2048) or 10240, whichever is lower.
What is ReservedMemorySizeMb set to in enblocal.ini? If below 512, try increasing it.

In other Gamebryo-engine games from Bethesda (i.e. Fallout 3, FNV), the in-game menu exists in a mode that is not interior or exterior, and if the enb visuals are vastly different between the two, accessing the in-game menu can cause the screen to flash white. Boris (ENB creator) talked about this in this thread. I can't reproduce this behavior, however, so I don't believe it is an issue with the preset. Check again if any files are left over from other presets.
You can also try disabling features of the preset (e.g. Image Based Lighting, Skylighting, SSAO, etc.) individually to see if one of them is responsible.

As far as I can tell the only left over files are the enblocal file that has all of my tweaked settings. Everything else has been removed. I haven't tested ESC vs Start on my xbox one controller but I highly doubt that's the issue haha, but then again this game does some weird **** and throughout the years i've learned that anything can glitch up skyrim so its worth looking into.

I'm using ENBSeries v0.389 (latest version). My GPU is a MSI GamingX 1080ti with 11gb of VRAM with a 8700K 4.8ghz CPU and 16gbs of TridentZ RAM 3200mhz CL14. VideoMemorySizeMb=14102 I have it set this way cuz that's what the memory tool from boris says and the STEP wiki says to subtract 170 from it so I have it set this way.

The reserved memory one is set to 128 cuz I heard that lower is better.

With these settings my game is very stable and runs perfectly in terms of frame rate I get a 100% solid 60 no matter what happens.

Also the flash only happens in outdoor areas it never happens inside houses or dungeons. It only happens out in the wilderness. Aside from that the enb seems to be working fine. Maybe I should just delete everything again and download the enb bineries again and make 100% sure to only keep the enblocal. Maybe I screwed up and kept something I wasn't supposed to.

Another weird thing to point out is the fact that my last known save was inside my Lakeview Manor home and whenever I load up the save file I have a weird bright white screen that only goes away once I leave my home and go into the wilderness. However when I come back in I get the proper enb lighting.

Another thing to note is that I went ahead and removed the letter box effect.

But yeah its probably on my end I will delete everything again and make sure to just keep the enblocal file. I will report back after I test it out again. Thank you for your response :)

It's also worth checking whether it occurs with a new game. If it doesn't, then you may have an effect stuck on your character or something else affecting the save. Otherwise, it could be caused by some mod that affects exterior lighting (weather mods, for example).

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm new to modding Skyrim, and have only tried one ENB before that was installed very differently from this one.

Step 4 of the instructions says to install Somber 3 DATA, and recommends using a mod manager rather than trying to extract loose files. I would happily do that, since I would certainly mess up everything trying to download these files manually. However, when I go to download the file, I see that every file on this mod's page only has a download manually option. There is no option to download with a manager.

Can you please help me by either re-enabling me to download it with the manager or by explaining how to do it manually? Thank you!

Download the file first. Then open your mod manager and add the file you downloaded into your mod list.

ShawnDriscoll is correct. Download the file however you like (or are able to) and install it with a mod manager. It will make it much easier to install or uninstall and if there are conflicts with textures or meshes from other mods you can choose which one takes precedence.

    Where is the enblocal file?

The enblocal.ini file is generated automatically the first time you run the game with an enb enabled. It doesn't make sense to distribute this file with the preset because the configuration depends too much on your individual hardware configuration. See the sample enblocal.ini file in the files section for some settings to get you started. Read the article to understand what individual settings do.

    and
    bDrawShadows=1
are not in my skyrim ini
the others were, and I changed the values but these two are not.
do I add them or has something gone wrong?

They should be set in SkyrimPrefs.ini under [Display]. If they are not present, you can add them. Typically, parameters that don't appear in your ini files have an implied value of 0 or whatever the engine considers to be default.

I installed according to your instructions but the game crashes on startup. The works perfectly with ENBoost, but as soon as I involve your preset, it won't start. Any ideas?

If you follow the instructions, this doesn't happen. Be sure to remove any files from other ENBs before installing this one. If your game is crashing at the main menu, it is because you are missing a dependent mod that is a master of another mod, and is not related to this preset. If your game is crashing when you load a save, it is because you have too many mods and are trying to load a game in an exterior cell or a cell with too many actors present.
