Update 1.0 is out! Read the change log to see what's new!

NOTE! If you are updating from a previous version (beta, beta_1 and 1.0) you need to completely uninstall that version before updating. If you manually installed it remove all files. A few files were renamed (mostly fixing typos) and I gave the textures and meshes their own folder called "CoinsofTamriel" to make manual installation/uninstallation easier.

    INSTALLATION.

    NMM Installation.

    1. Click the Download with manager button on top of the file. Or download manually and add it to the NMM.

    2. COT can be activated in NMM's mod list when the mod downloaded fully. Double-click on the mod to start the installation.

    3. Follow the steps in the FoMod installer.

    4. Finished.

    Manual Installation.

    1. Extract the files. Extract COT to a random folder, or to the desktop. Do NOT extract to your Data folder.

    2. Select one of the main files (they are in the 00 folders) and any of the DLC compatibility patches you may need (you do not need the DLC patches (they are in the 01 folders). If you use the Legendary Edition, but you do need to have ALL of the DLC, Dragonborn, Dawnguard and Hearthfire) You will also need to select a coin size folder (found in the 03 folder) which contains the mesh and texture files.

    3. Place selected .esp's, meshes, textures and scripts into your Data folder found in Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/skyrim/Data/

    4. Turn on the .esps in your choice of mod manager, or the Skyrim game data files menu.

    5. Finished.

    Updating

If you are updating from the previous versions "beta" or "beta.1" you must delete all esp's ,meshes and textures that were added in those versions. This is because I've changed the folder structure of this mod by giving the textures and meshes their own folder called "CoinsofTamriel" to make manual installation/uninstalation easier. I've also fixed a few typos and mipmaps as well as rename the script to CoinsofTamriel.

    Uninstallation

    Nexus Mod Manager:

    1. Highlight Coins of Tamriel mod.

    2. Select deactivate selected mod.

    3. Finished.

    -------------------
    Manual Uninstallation:
    -------------------

    1. Delete Texture folder CoinsofTamriel

    2. Delete mesh folder CoinsofTamriel.

    3. Delete all of the Coins of Tamriel.esp's

    4: Delete
    CoinsofTamriel.psc
    CoinsofTamriel.pex

    5. Finished.

I'm looking at this mod as an alternative to Skyrim Coin Replacer Reduxhttp://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/48195/?

I like SCRR for graphics and for ingot smelting but it's incompatible with Gold Adjustmenthttp://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/13248/?

and I want to make sure to balance the game economy. so, what I'm wondering is if there's a simple way to replace coin textures/meshes in this mod with some of the other ones around? the main thing is that I dislike the copper and silver variants having similar appearance to the gold, I'd like each coin to be somewhat unique on both sides (not just in color). perhaps if there's a directory I could just put in my preferred graphics for whichever, with gold/silver/copper and septim/nordic/dwemer that would be nine different coins, not including stacks or piles I guess

also curious if there are plans for ingot smelting. and I really like the functionality of automatically counting things as septims; but I want to avoid the scripted version if it runs often. I wonder if you could create a script that converts different coins to septims via dialogue options with the relevant vendors, like 'can you give me change' for septims at lots of vendors or 'I need to exchange currency' for vendors that buy non septims. if the script only runs at that point it would probably be a lot less demanding.

this would also prevent you from losing money due to selling via barter... it seems the scripted version would retain the value of coins as soon as you pick them up, but if you use non scripted to sell them, you don't get the full value unless your barter skill is enough... and that might make sense for dwemer or nordic coins but it doesn't make sense for septims, you shouldn't lose money exchanging 100 copper septims for 1 gold septim if there is a nationally enforced gold standard. so at least an 'exchange septims' dialogue option would make sense.

I appreciate the work you've done here, I don't think these are serious issues, just possible ways to enhance the functionality, let me know what you think

Replacing the textures/meshes should be pretty simple. But you'll need to do it manually. Just open the Skyrim data folder and then open the texture/meshes folder. Then look for the folder called CoinsofTamriel. Then just replace the .dds/nif files you wanted to switch out, you'll just need to make sure they have the same names.

Ingot smelting is something I've been thinking of adding, but I haven't made up my mind yet as I find it unrealistic to be able to smelt your own coins. But that option would be easy enough to add in.

As for the coin exchange through dialogue, that is another option I was thinking of adding. But I haven't got around to it do to the fact that I'm trying to keep the script free version, well, script free. What I was thinking of doing in the meantime is making a patch for another mod called The Golden Crossroads - Money Exchange, in which it will allow you to do straight up money exchanges with my mod.

thx for the response, I will look into the textures

the patch you mentioned sounds interesting, but it might be more immersive to have the option to get change for septims in more than one place. it wouldn't be script free, could just be a lighter alternative to the main scripted version, or an option in an installer if you use one

as for ingot smelting you could make it require a certain skill level in smithing, or in a scripted version you could make a dialogue option for vendors that work with a forge to essentially sell you ingots; you pay the price of how many coins go into the ingot, plus a little extra for the service of having someone else do it.

Great mod. Finding modern items in ancient places always seemed a little out of place.
I see discussion in the other comments about adding weight to the Septims, but was wondering how difficult it would be to make that configurable from a menu? One or two of the coin weight mods that I've looked at so far seem to use 0.001 as the weight for a coin. So 1000 coins = 1 unit of weight...while that may work perfectly in some cases, I think 2000 coins would weigh much more than an iron dagger.
Maybe it's time to learn some mod skills of my own.

well the character COULD smelt their own coins - IF they manage to steal the DIE from the IMPERIAL MINT! That would be a bad ass quest. Also this looks Awesome, I am going to try it out. I think traveling merchants, foreigners, sailors, bandits and historical sites should have other varieties of coins

Where do you find the copper and silver septims? They don't show up in console commands.

I fixed it. Your mod is great!

this mod is great and works with exchange currency with a few patches, but I like the non-script version, not because of performance or resources or papyrus, but because when I pick up silver or gold coins, I want to hold them, not have them magically converted to copper once i touch them

I have a question. Is this how it was meant to be that I can see coins in containers and dead enemies' inventory, but not in my own inventory? They still add weight and I can see how much septims I have overall, however, but I cannot see them as items in my inventory.

Alright, nevermind. I have read the description once again and everything is clear now.

For other language, how to fix the "gold" in interface? My skyrim is a Chinese version.

Any idea why is it still "gold" in inventory interface? not septim?

The Nordic coins being called 'Alessia' doesn't make much sense, for an imperial or Nedic people. But nords not much sense. 'Drakonmarks' or 'Kyneglds' or anything referencing Nordic lore would make more sense than imperial lore.

    Awesome mod otherwise.

Can anyone tell me if there is a mod that is compatible with Coins of Tamriel LE (v1) that allows you to see the coins in our inventory? I think I have this working perfectly, but I want to see (maybe even be able to drop) a select amount of Copper, Silver & Gold Septims (or, if not, be able to see specific amount of Copper, Silver & Gold Septims total per type... like, at the bottom where it says 'Septims' and amount it would instead say "32 Copper, 3 Silver, 1 Gold Septims"). Something like that.

EDIT: The mod "Gold Master" seems to do all I was asking about perfectly (so it would seem). I am getting the Gold Septim texture for Copper ones but that may or may not be a screw up on my end. Regardless, here is the mod for anyone else looking for the same thing:

I like the idea behind this but I think the execution is lackluster, a 100 copper coins = 1 gold coin is barely any better than vanilla. I think 100 copper should be 1 silver and 100 silver should be 1 gold, so that 10 000 copper = 1 gold - the only way to make a loaf of bread be worth 30 coins somewhat believable.

I have a minor issue where silver ingots are valued higher than gold ingots - and it's some weird amount like 748 for a silver ingot but a gold ingot is 500..i'm using currency exchange with the patches including the patch that sets gold ingots to 500 value
