When it starts, it says to "hook up", but the "attach" command adds a new one and nothing works at all. I think the new version of Nifscope is too different and this tutorial is now outdated. You can't get past the first few actions...

To "hook up" you need to double-click in the parent value column and type in the number (the hierarchy block list #) of the child.

Thank you a lot for writing this! The original author did not mention this and it was imposible to me to continue with the tutorial!

Hello sorry to bother you, I play on xbox one and I come to ask your permission. The mods author Cynndal agreed to think about converting his home mods to consoles if all the modders who participated in the supply of these agreed, so I go around the modders in question to ask? Thank you

It's a great tutorial, very clear and explains everything well. I can't get the animations to play in Nifskope though, even the ones made by the author. Still trying to troubleshoot that.

Haven't gone through the tutorials yet, but the content and comprehensiveness is amazing! Great job, if only we had people like you creating these tutorials more.

I'm a chronic copy and paste guy, so never actually understood the mechanics, just found a model that does something I want and paste in my own textures. Kind of weak I know.

Any chance you will creating tutorials on animating meshes next? Basic stuff like rotating a mesh 360 or mesh moving up and down.

Thank you for the kind words. I'm afraid it isn't as comprehensive as I would like, since I did not cover the BSEffectShaderProperty that is used for so many texture effects. I'm still trying to understand that myself. The tutorials are mostly just little experiments I did while trying to figure out how to make a project (the letter sealer pictured in the tutorial) look like something a great mage might have around. A friend over at TESA encouraged me to write up my findings while they were still fresh in my mind, so I'm only about half a step in front of my audience here, not some great expert of vast experience.

I don't consider it at all weak to use copy/paste to get the job done! I do it that way quite often myself, and the game contains a huge number of resources that can do just about anything you will usually want. Why not take advantage of it? But understanding something about the resource you're using for copy/paste is helpful if you want to tweak something a bit, like changing the color.

I haven't had any reason yet to get very interested in how meshes are animated, but there is already a great tutorial here in the Nexus forums on setting up a NiControllerManager to open and close a pair of doors. See Working with the NiControllerManager. I certainly found that helpful in figuring out how to use it for texture animations, which are a little more complicated because the texture animation controllers are outside the manager. Mesh animation needs only one transform controller, which is a sub-block of the manager.

I might have a use for this later and I'm going to endorse it, well be cause sharing of knowledge should always be appriciated. Bonus since you also gave me a link to the NiControllerManager tutorial, I'm currently trying to animate a candle and this will probably get me where i want, thank you!

This is criminally under recognized. Thank you for taking the time to make this, and if I can apply it's methods properly it will dramatically change the next update for The Dragon Engine. Thank you.

Could someone tell me how to reverse the direction of the panning?

I can't figure out if it would be a different "target variable" or if there's a property that needs to be changed. I have an item that using target variable 22 makes it move upwards, I need it to move downwards.

Amazing tutorial though, I had no clue in hell how to go about it before I found this

Thanks so much for this! It's opened up so many possibilities. Also it's one of the best written, well layed-out tutorials I've ever seen for Skyrim/nifskope! so thanks for taking the time to write it

Thanks a lot for this tutorial, it's a life-saver! I've tried to wrap my head around these effects on my own before, but it's very hard just by studying the meshes provided by the game.

One quation though, if I may. You have several examples on how to scale or move the UV over a texture, but is it also possible to rotate it? That could be very useful when trying to have rotating magic symbols on an item, for example.

I have not found any way to simply rotate the UV. I believe this ability existed in Oblivion meshes, but I have not found anything corresponding to it in Skyrim meshes. It seems odd that something so basic would be left out, so perhaps there is a way that I just haven't found. Or perhaps not. If I ever find one, you can be sure I'll add it to the tutorial.

Thanks for this tutorial - with it's help I managed to get a short video clip animating on an in-game object, as part of a sort of Dwemer CCTV. Thanks, and endorsed.
