    Sticky
1/25/15 UPDATE: By request, an optional download is available for the male and female draugr armor diffuse textures. The entire armor set is contained on one texture, so the 1K version is a bit lacking in detail. These optimized 2K color textures will add more detail while still keeping the overall file size reasonable (half the size of the Bethesda hi-res version).

7/1/14 UPDATE: Revised all the diffuse (color) textures to add more definition and dimension to the animals and creatures. Changed the trolls default black eyes to versions better matching their appearance and environment. It seemed odd that only the Udefrykte troll had colored eyes. Cave Trolls now have red eyes and Frost Trolls have blue eyes.

11/24/13 UPDATE: Added retexture of the Argonians. Male head normal is now the same size as the female, and the tintmaks have been redone at 512x512 resolution. Textures have been enhanced, but are performance friendly, since most are the same size as the default.

11/22/13 UPDATE: Added retexture of the Khajiit head, hands, body, and tintmasks. Textures are the same size as default, with the exception of the tintmasks, which are now 512x512.

10/13/13 UPDATE: BPT AC All and BPT DLC01 files have been updated to include missing Dawnguard creatures. Anyone whose using Dawnguard should download the 1.1 version.

Thanks for downloading my Bethesda Performance Textures - Animals and Creatures mod. Feel free to make comments and respectful criticisms here.

The aim of this mod is to retain (or improve) the appearance of the Bethesda hi-resolution animal and creature textures as much as possible, while providing a performance boost..... mainly for better FPS in combat. It is intended to be used with my BPT - Armor + Clothes + Weapons mod for the biggest performance gain.

I hope this mod proves as useful to other people, as it has for me. Enjoy.

It's not incompatible in the true sense of the word. EMD adds some new dragons, and dragon textures. My mod would just overwrite the vanilla dragons, but it wouldn't touch the unique ones that EMD adds.

Putting my mod after EMD would save you VRAM on the vanilla dragons at least.

You just do it. Textures are compatible with both games, no need for conversion. If you look at the mod through 'preview contents', you'll notice that all the files are labeled .dds. That's the format Skyrim's textures files have. Generally, as long as a mod doesn't have an .esp, .esl, .esm, .nif, bsa, bsl, or script file it should work with both versions. For future reference, sound replacers also work in both versions. These are labeled .wav. Basically, as long as all the files in a mod are either .dds or .wav, it shouldn't need to be converted to work in both versions.

This mod's textures for skeletons is incompatible with SMIM. SMIM fixes a texture glitch on humanoid skulls, which is undone by this mod. You can of course just have mod organizer hide the skeleton textures from this mod to fix this, but it results in skeletons getting a texture downgrade it seems. I've also been able to fix it by installing another re-texture for skeletons on top of it. That may be the best option to resolve this issue.

You can use this one with SSE, without any issues.

I'm a little confused, this would look worse or better on special edition?

This looks good on Special Edition.  I use it, because I am on a 14" underpowered laptop, and running SSE.  You could optimized/compress the textures with Cathedral Assets Optimizer, but you do not have to.  They work out of the box and look really good.

I am using self made core BSA texture files with everything at 1K or less, and only  30 or so at 1K, like mountains, larger furniture, trees and wall maps.  With Enhanced textures detail (UV-tweaks), and a light touch of Reshade, thigs actually look pretty decent.  I want better creature, NPC and gear retextures, but they need to be small (1K) and also fit the completely vanilla look of my base textures.  BPT does that perfectly!  If it weren't for BPT, I would have to use Skyrim Artistic Overhaul Oil.  That one still looks good, but is not compatible with a ton of other mods, including most quest mods.

As it is, BPT is awesome, even after all of these years.  Thank you Gamwich!

I'm stupid and the intructions aren't clear to me, my skyrim se doesn't have a texture folder but instead has texture.bsa, so do I just put the folder in the data and everything would work out?

Yep, just drop the files in the data folder and you're good to go.

Yes, it should work fine, since the textures are compatible with SE.

CBBE should work fine, but SOS uses a custom layout, so that won't be compatible.
