READ THIS BEFORE ASKING ABOUT YOUR PERFORMANCE WITH THIS ENB PRESET
What value did you set your "videomemorysizemb=" to? This is what will dictate your performance the most. You can use the "autodetectmemorysize" feature to detect what your value should be. You can see the value in your in-game GUI (Shift+Enter) under the "Memory" section in the top left pane. Remember the number you see and replace the value present in your "videomemorysizemb=" with the one you just saw in the GUI and you should be reaching the optimal performance for your system.
You have to select it in the .ini file not in game Then you can see the value it sets for you in game. After you see the value exit the game and then punch it into your .ini file, boot up again and you're good to go.
This isn't always correct. The auto feature reads off around 5GB for me, but I CTD at that setting. I keep mine at 10240 (max value) and that seems to be the only way ANY ENB runs well for me. With less values I get CTD, but it also depends on the ENB.
Sorry if this is a dumb question (completely noob at mods, let alone playing with values like this), but what does 'select it in the .ini' mean? It reads "AutodetectVideoMemorySize=true" in the .ini, but in the in-game GUI all it has is a check mark. Do I need to change the value of the autodetect in the .ini? Or do we put the value from "ReserveMemorySizeMB=" in the GUI in for the "VideoMemorySizeMB=" in the .ini? I tried Kojan's suggestion and still got a CTD, as well as CTD without changing any values. Thanks!
TO DISABLE LETTERBOX BARS OPEN YOUR ENBEFFECT.FX FILE IN YOUR SKYRIM FOLDER. NOT THE ENBEFFECT.FX IN YOUR ENBSERIES FOLDER. THE ONE IN YOUR SKYRIM FOLDER WHERE SKYRIM.EXE IS LOCATED.
find the line in your enbeffect.fx:
#define ENABLE_LETTERBOX_BARS // Enable cinematic bars (black bars at top and bottom) - DNI SEPARATED
and change it to:
// #define ENABLE_LETTERBOX_BARS // Enable cinematic bars (black bars at top and bottom) - DNI SEPARATED
Ah thanks. I thought I had found the correct lines, changed the values, but nothing happened. I had changed the values under the Matso's Letter Box Effect values.
I'm not understanding.. You mean in the Skyrim directory, the FX file? I looked in the ENBseries folder and opened the enbeffect.fx notepad in there, but it doesn't have any of what you've written in there? What do I need to open the FX file type?
So I can't seem to find the line specified anywhere and I've tried adding the other one in but neither that nor any other setting i adjusted did anything to the black bars so how do I make them adjustable/removable please?
Use ctrl+f to find the line you're looking for. It's definitely in there, near the top. Make sure you're actually opening the enbeffect.fx file with notepad or a similar program.
this might be a bit much to ask, but is there a chance this ENB exists for Skyrim Special Edition? I absolutely loved it and am now setting up SSE for performance reasons with a new PC. I couldnt find it for SSE however.
If nothing else, could someone point me to an ENB that is close in looks? Many thanks for any help!
I have used this enb before and I love it. Recently reinstalled skyrim again and got the enb again. Now everything it really, really dark. Day, night, inside or outside. It's all dark. I have enabled and disabled the enb and it seems it's the enb making everything so dark. Help? I'm not sure if it has anything to do with my mods, I followed the instructions in the description. I don't have any weather mods and the only lighting mod I have if elfx and only the core.
Edit: Poupouri doesn't support enb past 292, that's why it was dark. Fixed now.
Is this still compatible with ENB series v0.413 ? I followed the install instructions but when I walk outdoors I get a red bar on the bottom half of my screen. Interiors are stunning but I can't go outside. Any advice is appreciated! :)
Yeah it should work with v0.413+, however the red bar is usually a result of not configuring your skyrim.ini or skyrimprefs.ini, as some settings are incompatible with ENB series. It could also be resolved by (IIRC) disabling the "mist" setting using the ENB-GUI ingame (SHIFT + ENTER at the same time), as some older ENBs don't work on the latest binaries with this setting enabled.
Through the last years tried a crap-ton of enbs and visual mods and at the end always return to this one. A truly unique enb which stands above the pile of so many over-saturated, ''natural'' and ''fancy'' ones. Thank you so much MACHIIMACHII
You gotta rename enbeffectprepass.fx to enbdepthoffield.fx when you want to use newer binaries. Also dont forget to modify your SweetFX for Windows 10 Usage.
Interiors are great. Nighttime is great. Exteriors in the day look like perpetual overcast even in full sunlight, so I'll need to take a pass on this one.
I got the message that I didnt set bFloat...(etc.) in my SkyrimPrefs.ini to 1 (which I did, searching through the .ini showed the entry and its at 1) or that I have multiple .ini (which I dont, no other skyrimprefs.ini on my PC). The ENB is working though afai can tell from some minutes ingame. Is this a problem? Is there something I can do to fix this or do I simply have to check my .ini a fourth time?
Another question: Whenever I am not directly close to a light source or in direct sun, the skin of my character very quickly gets a red hue despite having the most pale skin colour set in Racemenu. Is that just how the dynamic lighting works or can I tweak that? Are there any minimum hardware requirements I should meet, or can I tweak it down to any semi-modern hardware?
There are two SkyrimPrefs.ini one in your skyrim folder and another in /Documents/My Games/Skyrim folder. The one you need to edit is the one in your documents folder.
When i load my Game via SKSE it gives me around 20 errors, then starts the game and the enb is not active of course :/ Something about "the procedurejumpinpoint "createDXGIFactory2 could not be found in the DLL "C:/Windows/system32/d3d11.dll"
I run both required mods of course. I changed the prefs.ini like i was instructed to.
I am using the latest ENB Version (0.319) Latest Skyrim Version with all DLC´s aswell.
Somewhere found a solution that you need to delete dxgi.dll from the Skyrim folder. Mystically, it helped ("d3d11.dll error" vanished and i can now enter the game)
If you're getting an error at startup and the game doesn't launch, it's because this ENB requires old ENB binaries. Now you could use those I guess but I believe you miss out on improvements the new binaries have made.
hi there, I was about to post a problem I was having, but it appears to have been solved! it seems like a strange fix to a strange problem, so I thought I'd put it here if someone else needs it.
im running Win10. when I tried to run SKSE with the ENB it gave me the error "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000001d). Click OK to close the application." thanks to the user maredark3d at the end of this thread here (https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/5680982-enb-gives-0xc000001d-error-how-do-i-fix-this/), I found the solution by downloading ENBseries' v0.119 and copy+pasting the d3d9.dll. working like a charm!
from what I've read, Win 10 has some kind of issue with d3d9.dll. im not really familiar with ENB files, so I wouldnt be able to tell you why it works ... but if youre having trouble, google and trial & error is all I used. good luck, and hope it helps (sparkle emoji here because Nexus is failing me)

find the line in your enbeffect.fx:
#define ENABLE_LETTERBOX_BARS // Enable cinematic bars (black bars at top and bottom) - DNI SEPARATED
and change it to:
// #define ENABLE_LETTERBOX_BARS // Enable cinematic bars (black bars at top and bottom) - DNI SEPARATED
Anyway, this is truly the best ENB.
// Letterbox settings - Adds widescreen bars at the bottom and top of the screen.
float fLetterboxBarHeightDay = 0.08;// Controls the height of cinematic bars. Default: 0.1.
float fLetterboxBarHeightNight = 0.08;// Controls the height of cinematic bars. Default: 0.1.
float fLetterboxBarHeightInterior = 0.08;// Controls the height of cinematic bars. Default: 0.1.
If you know where the grain and sepia settings are it's right under them.
What do I need to open the FX file type?
The line is in there. enbeffect.fx near the top under the effects section. Use Ctrl + F if you're having trouble finding it.
Seems like it's not there, halp pls.

It really should be written in the guide...

The only reason I know this much is because I had the same problem on Fallout New Vegas.
