BOOK COVERS SKYRIM SUPPORT CLOSED : November 2016

After four years of playing Skyrim and over two and a half years of developing and supporting Book Covers Skyrim I am moving on from Skyrim and stopping support and maintenance of the Book Covers Skyrim and Book Covers Skyrim - Lost Library mods. I have removed my modded Skyrim install from my SSD and cleared the space for new games.

I have had great fun creating the covers and supporting players using them but I feel that the mod is now complete. Apart from known issues with triple-monitor Widescreen play, I believe the mod to be error-free and stable.

I will update the Nexus permissions to allow ANY and ALL use and modifications to Book Covers Skyrim and its assets with the single proviso that you credit me and link back here. There are stocks used in this mod that require accreditation so please respect this. If you want to take the raw PSD files of the mod and make your own covers, feel free to do so. They are in the Misc Files section of the mod.

Thanks for the company and have fun!

    Daniel.

Book Covers Skyrim - Lost Library brings high quality covers in the style of Book Covers Skyrim to a very broad range of over two hundred books from previous Elder Scrolls games and their expansions. It is a logical extension to Book Covers Skyrim and is fully compatible with this mod.

Subjects range from light-hearted comedy, traditional poetry, plays, stories and legends to heretical diatribes, dark prophecies, cult agendas and insane gibberish.

The new books will be found on Merchants of many types as well as on any NPC that you would expect to have books in their inventory. Similarly, any container that could previously provide a book will have a chance of the new titles.

Please be aware that the Merchants are not guaranteed to have one of the new books as the lists they draw from have a chance of no item. While a General Merchant is quite likely to have a Cheap or Common book or two, you would have to ask the Jarl's Wizards or the Orc Wisewomen if they are lucky enough to have any of the rare or valuable books. Members of the Thieves Guild with access to the Fences will find they tend to be well supplied. Urag in Winterhold is particularly well connected with book suppliers and Brand Shei in Riften has a specific interest that fits with his history.

One book has been defined as a skill book for each of the game's skills and has been hand-placed in the world. Placement does tend to have a certain logic to it. While some are fairly easy to find, others are well hidden. If you are used to searching for rare items in Morrowind, you will feel at home here. Skill books will never appear in a Merchant's inventory or on an NPC. Many of the skill books will have an owner that you may have to become friends with in order to take the book without stealing.

Why does this require patches for different mods (Requiem)?? I mean if this is just textures what's there to patch?

The reason there are BCS - Requiem patches is that I provided some book covers for Requiem that used resources from this mod.

BCS on its own just updates the Skyrim books. Requiem on its own adds new books. The BCS - Requiem patch changes the appearance of the Requiem Books and Notes to look similar to BCS ones.

Aah okey So if I would miss some patch for some of the mods I'm using it would only mean that some books would not get your awesome textures?? and nothing really bad would not happen.

Not quite sure do I need any more patches than the Requiem one..

You would have to ask the authors of those patches what the changes were for and then decide. You could also check in TES5EDIT and see for yourself. If you need to reduce the number of plugins, you could manually merge some of the compatibility patches into a custom one for your own use.

Is there any version of this mod that doesn't require the DLCs?

Yes - look in the Old Files section of the mod. There is a Separate DLC version where you can pick the DLC you actually have.

It is very out of date and almost certainly will need to you work on compatibility patches with any other book or inventory sorting/weight mods you wish to use. You can use TES5EDIT for that.

Six months late, but thank you for the response.

The only sorting mod I intend to use is Better Sorting by Headbomb. I have no idea how to use TES5EDIT to make it compatible. I suppose it's time to learn something.

Hey Daniel, I just came back to update and for the first time noticed you put all the PSD files for download! I have no idea what I might do with them at this late stage of Skyrim but who knows, and it's awesome to be able to take a look at them, thanks very much!

Hi, just tried uninstalling the mod as I downloaded a book mod which was not displaying textures on pages... so underwent a little test (maybe paper textures incompatibilities with images or something like it...) I'm not a modder so I have no idea what I'm talking about... basically testing for incompatibilities... BUT when I uninstall (including patches and what not dependant of this mod) the game CTD's after bethesda lkogo (even after removing orphan scripts from save) when I reinstall BCS and patches I can casually "FUS ROH DAH" Bandits and whatnot again like nothing happened... so... not technically an issue as I absolutely adore this mod but I sort of dislike being stuck with it out of necessity... I'd rather it remained a choice. Any idea on how to circle around this issue?

When the game crashes instantly on loading, it is usually a "Missing master" mod issue. This means that some mod in your load order is still looking for something that loaded before it that you have now removed.

The easiest way to locate the culprit is to download TES5EDIT from the Nexus. Run it and it should automatically find Skyrim. It will pop up a window with a list of all your mods in it. If they are all ticked, click OK otherwise right-click in the list and choose Select All. Wait a couple of minutes while it parses all your mods and look for the error message when it stops. It will say something like "Missing Master TheOneThatIsMissing.esp in plugin IAmMissingSomethingIWant.esp". You can then close the TES5EDIT window and deal with the named ESP.

It may also be in your Bashed Patch if you have one - redo your Bashed Patch if this is the case.

My only issue is that the Journal names are in such a way that makes little sense to me, sorting or no.
I noticed this when I picked up "Journal - Alva's". "Alva's Journal" makes a lot more obvious sense.
If you're too oblivious to notice that the journals are labelled journals, you don't deserve them sorted.
I tried loading this file through the CK to rectify it for myself but lo and behold, errors out the wazoo. Sometimes it would report Duplicate errors.

To all trolls - even those that do not consider themselves to be one:
I don't want ridiculous insults. I've tried to stay level-headed throughout this post and I'd thank you to do the same.
Rubbish like "Use TES5Edit" or "You sucks and shud fell bad" or other such trollery only makes YOU "fell" better about yourself. Instead of insult-trading, how about some meaningful help?

To anyone civilised enough to actually help:
Thanks. You restored my faith in humanity this day.

Separating journals from books is far better than vanilla sorting, it's a fact dude! You can't deny it or go against it, you just have to accept it.

      Now calm down, skeever-butt.

bulls***, unless you tie someone up and whip him constantly, I would advise you to not ask people to accept "facts"... unless you prove them, I mean come on! Truth needs proof!

this mod's plugin does become huge cluster f*** when any kind of merged or bashed patches are involved. everything turns red. I believe the book/journal names just get reverted to vanilla (most of them) so make patches if it bothers you so much (should make them anyway).

Also noticed that cell edits made from interior lighting mods, and important patches like usleep easily become overwritten by the plugin. I have my own custom override patch at the end of my load order, and there's a lot more work involved if this is in there.

I love book covers, though, wish it was simply a texture replacer. I miss the days when I didn't pay attention to detail and just put a plugin in and used loot. sadly, loot doesn't even begin to solve conflicts. these are just the brutal facts*

    Spoiler:

The books without the Unofficial Patch are like that intentionally as they simply didn't need any edits for the Unofficial Patch team to be satisfied with them. It looks like I either just missed that series when I was checking the names or the old ones crept back in by accident. I think my convention was to do "Bookname, Vol. x" when naming series.

Just use TES5EDIT to change the names the way you prefer in your copy. Just be careful to only change the column in Book Covers Skyrim.esp and when you close TES5EDIT, there should only be that ESP listed as needing saving.

The books in question are named "Bookname, Vol. x" so I fail to see why they don't display correctly in game? Maybe I'm missing something?

I'll have a play with changing their names to match one or the other and see if I can figure it out. Thanks for your ongoing help.

When you are looking at them in TES5EDIT, did you allow it to Load All plugins? Is your Bashed Patch up to date (if you have one)?

*Facepalm* I think you've just cracked it! TES5Edit was loading all my plugins EXCEPT for my Bashed Patch. I tried TES5Edit again (with the Bashed Patch enabled) and book 1 and 3 through 5 now display a fourth column "Bashed Patch, 0.esp". The "FULL - name" field for these four books are in the older format whereas book 2 - which doesn't have the Bashed Patch column - is in the newer format. I'll try changing book 2 to the old format (because it is easier to test than changing 4 names) and see if it fixes it.

PS: I've only just realized that all my previous comments were posting separately rather than as one post replies. My bad - sorry!

There may be a Compatibility Patch that is affecting those records loaded after Book Covers Skyrim. TES5EDIT is the right tool to tell you if this is the case.

With your normal Load Order, start TES5EDIT and allow it to Load All plugins. When it has gone through them all, go and check the BOOK records for the Barenziah books just as you have done (sorting by Full Name helps find them easily) and see if there is another column after the Book Covers Skyrim.esp one. If there is, that is the culprit. If there is not, then it is an issue with Book Covers although I had hoped I had caught all those naming conventions.

If you want to make a change to how Book Covers names a book, all you have to do is click on the field with the book title, wait a moment while TES5EDIT shows you that somewhat alarming warning message, then, when the field becomes editable (you may have to click again for this to happen), make the change to the format you would prefer. Once you are done, close TES5EDIT and it will ask if you want to save the changed plugin. If you left the "Backup Plugins" checkbox ticked, it will save a renamed copy of the original for you too.

You have now made a personalised copy of the mod and it will not affect your save in any adverse way. You then have the names just how you prefer them.

Feel free to PM me if you need any additional help.

Daniel, thanks for your prompt reply. Very much appreciated.

Okay, I'm following your instructions and can tell you that while no other column appears after "Book Covers Skyrim.esp", each of the other four books have three columns: "Skyrim.esm", "Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch.esp" and "Book Covers Skyrim.esp" in that order. Book two just has "Skyrim.esm" and "Book Covers Skyrim.esp" again, in that order. Would this be a safe bet that therein lies the issue and if so is it easy to correct?

Regrading how to rename a book, I did have a play around with this earlier but all the fields looked correct hence I'm stumped as to why this one book is out of format with the other four.

Happy to PM if preferred but otherwise happy to (hopefully) resolve here in case someone else wants to correct it down the line. I understand that LE still has a massive following due to the high number of great mods available.

Firstly, this is a great mod! However, I've noted that "The Real Barenziah, Vol. 2" isn't in the same volume format as the other four books from the set. Book 1 and 3 through 5 are all listed as "The Real Barenziah, vX" where X denotes the volume number. Book 2 is listed as "The Real Barenziah, Vol. 2". I have a screenshot but can't attach to this post.

I looked in TS5Edit to see if I could fix this but can't see any differences between the volumes except a colour difference on two lines under "The Real Barenziah, Vol. 2". My knowledge of TES5Edit is limited so I have no idea what this means. The issue itself is tiny but a a tad frustrating on the old OCD. Can anyone provide any advice or help in correcting this please?
