When using RaceMenu and XPMSE, I noticed a significant SKSE save file bloat. SKSE save files with RaceMenu were 750KB. The slow write speed of SKSE save files made the save time upwards of 3 1/2 minutes on hard saves, and 4 minutes on a quicksave, which is ludicrous. Regular save files are about 8MB, which is acceptable.
Uninstalling RaceMenu and NiO, and reinstalling XPMSE to match the changes, instantly changed the SKSE save files to 15KB, and save times to just a few seconds.
I am willing to play without RaceMenu, but would still prefer to have it, obviously without the save bloat. Is there anything I can do about this? Thanks.
over a month since you posted but, May very well be related to the issue I saw others mention and had discovered as well, including those long save times. You have a few options to try, all 3 are basically equivalent.
Use version 3.4.4 (what many people ended up doing), install 3.4.5 and then install nioverride standalone (what I ended up doing), or just install 3.4.5 and replace the nioverride.dll with the one from 3.4.4 or from the nioverride standalone (an acceptable alternative).
There was something changed in that file for 3.4.5, and it causes a myriad of issues. but umm 750 KB? That would be very tiny. Assuming you meant 750 MB? You may have something else going on as well, or may just be this issue.
