1.0 Finding the captain

You will find the captain initially in the drunken huntsman in whiterun, you may also find
some of his mercenaries dotted around the city.

1.1 Hiring the company

When you have the initial fee of 500 gold to hire the company speak to the captain. Upon hiring
you will gain access to a wide variety of commands uncluding the option to hire more men. You start
out with the captain and two of his warriors.

1.2 Company commands

There are many commands to play with including, "Secure the area" (the mercenaries will split
up and clear the surrounding area of any hostiles), "Assualt and Secure" (if in range of one of the
forts or camps there mercenaries have the AI to attack, this option will become aviable and the
mercenaries will mount an attack on the select fort or camp), "Relive your men" The company will
remain in your service but will return to their day to day activities in whiterun. Whenever you issue
a command through the captain it will apply to the whole company unless the mercenaries are
currently in relief or taking direct orders from the player.

1.3 Direct commands

There are two states each of the mercenaries can be in at any one time. Taking commands from the
captain as talked about in 1.2, and taking direct commands from the player. The mercenaries will
initially be set to taking commands the captain, if you wish to switch them to direct then simple
select "I have some specific orders for you" in the dialogue options for the mercenary you wish to
change and they will start to ignore the captain and wait on your command instead. Once they are
in this state you can issue orders to them through speaking with them personally. When you wish for
them to return to company orders then select "Resume taking orders from captain" and they will
immediately start doing whatever the last order was from the captain.

1.4 Applying upgrades

You can apply upgrades to any mercenary you wish and the equipment they get will depend on the
type of mercenary that they are, for example a warrior may get better armour but a mage will learn a
new spell. Upgrading or "promoting" will cost gold as you are paying for better equipment for your
mercenaries.

1.5 Discharging mercenaries from your company

If you wish to remove a certain mercenary from your company due to the upkeep costing to much or
they are just getting in the way, then select "Your discharged" from the dialogue options.

1.6 New Recruits

You can hire more mercenaries through the captain by selecting "I'd like to hire more men..." from
the dialogue options, the mercenaries will start off at whiterun so the speed at which they get to
you will depend on how far away from whiterun you currently are. You can currently have a total of
30 mercenaries, with a total of 10 of each type.

1.7 Types of mercenaries

There are currently three types of mercenaries:

- Archer: Starts out with some leveled archery equiment, leveled melee weapon and leather armour.

- Warrior: Starts out with leveled melee equipment and basic iron armour.

- Mage: Starts out with one basic fireball spell, an iron dagger and unenchanted robe.

1.8 Payments and upkeep

There are two parts to this section, initial payments & upkeep payments.

Initial payments: An initial payment is when the captain and company are currently dismissed from
your service and you approach to hire the captain. The cost will be displayed as a notification in
the top left hand corner of the screen when you talk about the topic with the captain. When you
choose to hire them this way, the company will remain in the same state as you left it accept all
of the dead mercenaries that were in the company beforehand will be replaced with new recruits.

Upkeep payments: This is the payment that is issued at the end of a week of service and can be paid
through the captain or any of the individual mercenaries, the upkeep is based on the mercenaries
currently registered as part of the company minus the mercenaries that have been killed while as
part of the company.

The payment system can be a bit confusing at first so here is an example:

Say the player has 4 mercenaries adding a total of 200 gold onto the upkeep and the company is
currently in service. Then one of the mercenaries gets killed and the upkeep goes down to 150 per
week, but then the play dimisses the company. The next time the player wishes to hire the company
they will have to pay the upkeep of 200 gold rather than 150 gold even though one has been killed
because on the initial payment as explained before all of the dead mercenaries are brought back as
new recruits. Dead mercenaries stay in service and are brought back after an initial payment but
not a weekly continuational payment nor do they count towards a weekly payment. Mercenaries can
permenantly be removed from the company through discharge.
