Beards are now also available for Skyrim Special Edition!
Beards is a Skyrim retex project that replace the existing beard textures with new high resolution hand painted textures that are true to the vanilla style, but much more photo realistic. Beards also enable extra beard styles that were present in the Skyrim files, but not enabled for use in game.
Please note that Beards is first and foremost a retex mod – the extra braided beards are just an added bonus and you're in no way obligated to use them (the .esp) if you don't want to. I am already aware the models look horrible, so please don't bother me about it – I didn't make them and I don't (at this given moment) have the ability to fix or improve the models myself.
Retexturing them makes some of them fairly usable, but never in a hundred years will a retexture make them look awesome. Bad mesh is bad, and that's that. I am also very certain that the reason these braided beard styles weren't available for player is simply because they never turned out as intended by Bethesda, and as we can imagine, they probably had to rush out the game so it was ready 11.11.11.
Please note, these can and will look good with proper sculpting/messing around using RaceMenu. RaceMenu is not available for Skyrim Special Edition at this given moment, however. Once it is, you can reshape the beard mesh using it.
Vanilla beard textures were only an a pathetic 256² (512² for SSE and High Resolution Texture pack).
I retextured the beards at an insane 4k size.
Textures are available at 4k, 2k and 1k.
The 4k size is only recommended for screen archery and monster rigs. Whereas the 2k textures are for the average rig and the 1k version is for lower end rigs.
Please help the mod by adding your own screenshots to the page.
I'm also currently looking for a potent screen archer willing to shoot some awesome screenshots of the various beard styles. Feel free to contact me about it.
Add more beard styles - made from scratch.
Potentially add HDT physics to said new beard styles - I still need to learn.
Maybe fix the vanilla braided/beaded beard styles. Very low priority.

These are my own personal edits, so don't bother me about it. I MAY do my own skin textures in the future, but it's not a high priority.
Hvergelmir Mods is just a one-man team, contrary to popular belief. Hvergelmir is pronounced Ver-gel-mir. My Nexus username is Hvergelmer (as Hvergelmir wasn't available at the time). Hvergelmer is the Danish version of Hvergelmir (which is Icelandic). Hvergelmir is from Norse Mythology and has been my pseudonym for many years now.
I am open to suggestions and collaboration work on other mods, got any great ideas feel free to contact me. My strong side is mainly (re)texturing and basic 3d modeling, but I am flexible and should be suitable for other jobs.
