The "No Name" / "Can't Interact" / "Can't Loot" Bug
This is the dreaded no-name bug. It comes from having your language incorrectly set in at least one of your patchers. Fix your language settings and rerun. I'm currently bugging Dienes for more information, and I will post it here when I get it.
Hello, any fix for The "No Name" / "Can't Interact" / "Can't Loot" Bug? I am currently using only AV and SUM with mod organizer, no other patchers, i set in the option of SUM the same language of my Skyrim version (Italian), but i still have the no loot and name bug. I also tried setting english language in SUM before patching, but doesn't work either.
How exactly do I set my language incorrectly? I was never able to make any language setting other then the steam language setting for Skyrim itself. Does that mean AV only works with the English Skyrim version?
1- What language is the "correct" one? english? 2- Do I just have to match the patches lang with the one my game has? 3- How can I change the language in the patchers? there are no options for that
EDIT: hey I just learned how to fix it! Here's what you need to do:
-Activate/Install/re-install automatic Variants -Run the patcher and make sure all the skins you want are activated -Make the patch and exit -Get the program "TESVtranslator" http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/29148/? -Use TESVTranslator to open the file "Automatic Variants.esp" -You'll see that a lot of names in the "original" section are a bunch of protocol names like "SP_trollfrostface_AV_MGEF" or something like that. Double click each entry and then write the right name for each type of creature based what you can read from the original text (I.e: "SP_TrollFrostRace_AVRaceAttachment_attacher_MGEF" should be translated to just "Frost troll") -Make sure to translate each of the entries to your desired language, check some wikia or something if you forgot what the official translation was. -Once done, save and overwrite the file and exit. That's it, the bug should be gone now, use the console to spawn enemies and check if they're still nameless.
EDIT 2: If you run the patch again after translating everything you'll break the mod again, and the first fix wont work anymore. I'll uninstall and wait for the autor to come up with a fix.
I've gone through all my AV stuff to make sure all is correct, etc, and for a long time I had no problems. Until recently... Haven't added anything new, so I've no idea why this came up now, but for a few weeks now I haven't been able to 'interact' with certain creatures, mainly Trolls, Spiders, Draugr - I ignored it to begin with until I started a new game, and found I couldn't loot the Draugr in Bleak Falls Barrow, thus couldn't get the Dragonstone. I hate using console commands to aquire items, but considering the author posted this almost a year ago, I don't see any fixes coming - has this been abandoned? That's my question.
I adore using AV, but since NOTHING has been, or is being done to fix this, I'm forced to uninstall this. Shame.
It's been a more than a year, and there's still no fix to this. If you play skyrim in any language other than english then this mod is a no go, it's really a tragedy. I still hope someone comes up with a solution to this, I really wanna use this mod.
Okay, user ServantOfSin ( <-- Follow that link and give ServantOfSin some Kudos! ) updated the Automatic Variants patcher to work with the USKP. With both ServantOfSin and Dienes permissions, I have posted it. Unfortunately, my computer is still down to 2gb of RAM, so I haven't been able to test it yet. Please report any issues (or lack of issues) here!
p.s. actual sorry, I'll test now... I am 100% past mod import with success... I do get the HEAP error in MO, using the work around from Denies' post for MO users. http://i.imgur.com/BAlf4w8.jpg
pps. now that all the patchers work again with USKP, I tested with SUM and it ran through this time.
Maybe it ignores the settings made by SUM in regards to copying. I need tonote that on this very PC the same proccess used to work a few years back on my previous run. It might have somethig to do with Java version used? ( Using 64bit 8.201 over here..)
Hello there. Leviathan1753 has given me permission to maintain Automatic Variants for his as he has no free time. I've been updating the core SkyProc library for a few months now and have added a number of fairly important bug fixes to it. For more information check out the SkyProc thread.
I don't plan to actively do any development on Automatic Variants but if there are bugs I will take a crack at fixing them and I will keep updating it with new versions of the SkyProc core as needed.
The big changes with Automatic Variants in 2.0.1.1 are: It now imports false esm plugins in the correct order (like the version 2+ unofficial patches). Much better support for some subrecords in NPCs which vanilla skyrim didn't use but some mods do. BOSS will not automatically run as that often caused issues with mod managers. Make sure your load order is correct before running the patcher!

It is important to stop AV from moving files if you are using MO. First make sure your packages are correct, reinstalling as needed then run the AV patcher, choose "Texture Variants" on the left, then choose the "Other Settings" at the bottom. Then Uncheck "Move Package Files". With that box unchecked AV will create Hard Links, effectively making the file be two places at once. Then run the patcher as normal.
I know that the project is completely dead, but I wanted to let the authors know that the mod doesn't work at all with the latest versions of Java. It critically needs updating.
It has driven me MAD (crazy) that all the links to AV packs on the main page are broken, so here's the list with the correct links and all the other AV packs I could find on LE Skyrim. If using MO2 to install these on SE Skyrim, it doesn't fully unpack them. It doesn't unpack the textures needed which defeats the purpose of downloading them in the first place. I recommend downloading with MO and installing manually, moving the creature names to just under "AV Packages"... I only tried this with one pack, but it worked.
Hello, I need help, I would like to use AV in Skyrim SE, did you manage to make it work? Could you explain how? or at least confirm that it worked for you. i saw this: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/10861 but I haven't tried it.
I can't get this to work. Nothing comes up when I click the icon, or open it through Mod Organizer, even though I have it set to open with Java(TM) Platform SE Binary. Nothing happens, no window comes up, Mod Organizer's lock window pops up only for a second, and no esp file is generated anywhere. I do have Java installed properly (I used it for my programming classes), and it is newer than version 7. I am getting no error message telling me what could be wrong. I've even opened up permissions for my skyrim folder, but that made no difference.
I got a problem that I have not see posted before has of yet. I am getting the following error, and I have Automatic Variants with the AV Packages for Legend of Cain Werewolves, and Husky 2k variants
"There was an error exporting the consistency information.
This means your save game has a good chance of having mismatched records the next time you run the patcher"
I can't find a fix for this and I need help please. I did not have this issue until i had to reinstall my skyrim last week.
I'm frustrated and need help. I have Moonlight tales and a bunch of other mods, and use Mod Organizer 2. AV is installed correctly, and the patcher runs just fine. But the .esp it creates is empty (5.05 kb, no masters listed) no matter what I do. None of the suggested fixes in the readme apply to me; I have the latest version of Java, it's the right version, .jar files are associated with java, no exclamation mark, java is default runtime... and outside of that troubleshooting list, there are zero fixes anywhere as far as google can find. I'm at my wit's end and don't know what to do. If anyone, anyone at all, sees this post and knows what's happening... please respond.
Please, please, PLEASE... the Skyrim community needs this mod working for Skyrim Special Edition.
I just can't enjoy my new game the same way, something HUGE is missing and I know exactly what it is... I tried following tutorials, spent hours trying to make this work with SE with absolutely no success.
I guess I'll just wait and hope that one day I can download, configure and enjoy this mod in SE as easy as I used to in LE. I'd definitely pay to see this happen. I just can't let this amazing mod go so easily and I know I'm not the only one here feeling the same u.u
