Thank you. I was able to follow the instructions. I think GIMP link is no longer valid, but I found their .org website so it's fine. Also the armor is named zensin not zenzin, just a minor typo. The one thing I noticed is in my game the top doesn't look sheer like in your's but I bet that's do to a texture or ENB mod. What is more valuable is knowing now how to remove parts of armor mods, so thank you for that.
drop microsoft word not all computers come with that, and ifyour computer doesnt come with it than you have to pay $6.99\month to use that S*, F* off with that DOCX S*
EDIT: went online and got Notepad++ a free program that can read DOCX files.... but why isnt this written in a universal format like txt or wrd?
Well that's an unexpected comment. If you don't want to use MS Office, and are unable to find one of the many (free) alternatives, you really have a problem.
comment is several years old at this point, but i'm a mod author myself, so i found it amazingly ignorant that another "mod author" made a mod using a format that few computers can read, let alone edit, instead of using a universal format. but yeah i had no idea LibreOffice could read it, and i use arch Linux daily, wish i knew that at the time. i never re-commented on this because the mod author came off as some self entitled prick, saying you have a problem if your unable to find a free alternative, like he is expecting his users to google a format and hope to find a trustworthy and safe way to open his files, no mod author worth his salt would admonish his users and throw the creative burden on them. a better response would have been along the lines of "i'm unable to re-edit the files (give reason)", or "i didn't think of that". but hey cant expect much from a mod author with low notoriety and very few mods, fewer with any kind of real clout.
So, I want to make some clothes (or armor parts) SEMI transparent (like "Recorder's" pirate shirt). How to do it?
In this tutorial, you can learn how to remove parts COMPLETELY (making them invisible); I don't want to make the shirt invisible, I want to make it "semi-transparent"...
I want to add my thanks for this tutorial, which I just found. A life saver.
The whole concept is awesome for beginners, and for me the two Nifskope tips were the cream on the pudding. Bless you.
I have to mention that I have done transparency many times on just the _0 nif, and it has always showed up in game (although I can see the best practice of doing the same on the _1 nif as well, I'll do that in future, why not?) ... maybe I was just lucky.
Also, you mention semi-transparency, so in case you want to share - I have just found out, after much searching around, that on some nifs the semi-transparency will not work, even with the correct settings. A prime culprit is usually the Bethesda vanilla nifs, and the reason is that the Flag in the NiAlphaProperty has been set with Allow Blending turned off. It will therefore only give full transparency - as soon as you change it to Allow Blending, you can get semi-transparency to work - this had been driving me nuts for weeks!
Thanks for your work and helpfulness - it is really much appreciated.
if you make the front side of say a robe transparent to make the armor more skimpy how do I prevent the back side from becoming also transparent in Nifskope (when looking from the just-transparent-made-part of front? If I look from the bottom I see the backpart fine, but never from the front....
Got a few minutes? If not, no worries, but I wanted to try asking you first before trying the Forums.
Don't know if this will surprise you, but I've been fooling with the armor mods on and off during the time since you helped me before. I probably shouldn't try to work on this stuff when I get home from work and feel tired, but that's usually my time for Skyrim, so I do what I can and tell myself that I'll figure some of this stuff out *eventually.*:o)
Anyway, . . . I've worked through your tutorial quite a few times. And I can now do the armor mod that you use for a demo in your tutorial. (!) But with other armors, both vanilla Skyrim armors and those of modders, I keep running into a couple of problems. It seems like your mod told me how to deal with these, but maybe I'm missing something. There's a link below to a collage that will show you the armor I'd most like to figure out--I tried to include all of the Nifscope data that I thought you might need.
So what's the problem? Well, I tried to make the shin guards and knives attached to one leg transparent. And I did. :o) I was all set to send you an in-game pic showing it off. (I'll need to re-texture the underlying armor so it'll look right, so pls. don't wonder about that.) But when I next played and got a bright, sunny day in Skyrim . . . there were 2 oddities about my armor. (1) The armor no longer cast a shadow on the ground. (2) The armor itself wasn't 100% opaque. I'm guessing it was maybe 85% opaque.
I remembered that you'd included a note about partial transparency in your tutorial, so I looked at that again and then checked to see if my own armor had been set for that. But everything looked OK.
I've put this armor mod away and then gotten it out again to try doing it over with a fresh perspective (clear head?), but no luck.
Any ideas?
I've gotten a lot better working with some of the shader properties, but just looking at Nifscope, I can tell that there are a zillion dimensions to working with the textures that I don't know about. So I won't be surprised if this is one of those situations where you don't have enough info to say what's wrong. If so, well, I'll live. :o)Thank you very much for your time and interest.

It's compatible with DOCX and it's free.
And you can also be a good soul and give some money to the Libre Office team, when you download the Libre Office instalation file...
Even after almost 10 years, I could still use it with NifSkope 2.0 Dev. 7 and Gimp 2.10.30.
How to do it?
