Changelogs
Version 2.0
Added spells, allowed ring enchantments to be learned and transfered.
Version 1.0
Original mod; cleaned up version of mod I originally made for personal use.
This is my first mod so apologies for any rough edges! I'd originally created this for personal use as I'd found out about the "Philter of the Phantom" in Shroud Hearth Barrow and wanted a way to more permanently have that effect, as well as being able to use other ghostly effects in the game. I couldn't find a mod that suited what I wanted at the time so I made one myself via the Creation Kit; this was a few years ago and I've not looked into it again so apologies if this seems like a knock-off of an existing mod!
You can find the version of this mod for Special Edition here!
Overview
This mod adds a set of enchanted rings and spells to the game that allow you to take on various ghostly appearances as well as bestow them on others (or make someone who is already a ghost corporeal again). They can be found in a lockbox near Riverwood or added to your inventory via console commands.
Available Appearances/Effects
Ghostveil (Ghost/Phantom)
Nightveil (Nightingale Sentinel)
Corrupted Nightveil (Darker version of Nightveil, not sure if used in-game)
How to get the rings and spells?
See the images above for a reference as to where the lockbox is in Riverwood; it's on the side of the village that you would normally approach at the start of the game assuming you follow the intended path to get there.
If you want to acquire them via console commands, use help "veil" in the console and it should return the item IDs of the 3 rings and most of the spell tomes; for the last 2 you'll need to use help "corporeal" and you should see them.
You can destroy the rings to learn their respective enchanments and enchant other items with said enchantments.
Installation
This mod is simply an esp file; the mod manager download should install it to the correct location but if you want/need to manually install it, simply put the .esp file into the Data folder in your game directory (i.e. the folder that opens when you choose to "Browse local files" on Steam). Then just make sure that the plugin is enabled when you run the game.
Compatibility
This mod only uses items and effects already in the game and shouldn't have any impact on other mods, or vice versa, due to the minimal changes. If you have a mod that affects the layout of Riverwood, the lockbox may get obscured, in which case you'll need to use console commands to add the rings to your inventory.
Future Plans
- Adding spells to provide the same effect; this would be more convenient than rings and would also allow you to affect yourself as well as other NPCs. Currently looking into how to remove effects via spells. - Looking into a cleaner way to handle spells; currently it adds an effect with an absurdly long duration but I'm not sure how that can affect performance nor how reliable it is.
