A very simple shortcut to Severin Manor directly from the Whiterun Stables, not very immersive, but very convenient.
It's a trap-door, and it leads directly into Severin Manor (to a door specifically created for this purpose, in a hopefully inoffensive location). In other words, don't use it before you actually own the place, or they'll get upset with you for trespassing.
