What

This is a plugin to The Kids Are Alright Renewal - Ultimate. It will only work with TKAA AND that specific "UltimateRenewal" (latest) version. This is due to Ultimate including new assets required by this and/or any future plugins (by me). This mod places approximately 70 new children into the world, many of which are adoptable. Bandit camps will sometimes have kids around. Same goes for Witch, Warlock or Vampire covens. You will encounter solitary kids that are hunters that can be traded with - just don't expect them to be taking on wolves, bears or big cats. They're just kids. Some of the Stormcloak soldiers have their kids along, but they will not do any fighting. The kids ALL have the default game child flag set, so they act like any other kid in Skyrim. Serious threats cause them to run and hide, you know, like any sane kid would do in real life. If you are expecting a kid to run up and try to stick a knife in you, or take on a dragon, well, this isn't your mod.

Expect some silly easter egg characters. If you know my mods, you know the drill by now.

Usage

A mod manager is highly recommended. I do not recommend or support manual installation.

NEVER, EVER make changes to the plugin in the Creation Kit. It will generate new facegen meshes and textures and they will be UGLY. Use xedit to make your changes every.single.time. Also the Creation Kit is stupid, and will blindly make new id records outside of the allowed esl range, and you will make a mess of your game. I learned this the hard way. xedit KNOWS not to do these things, and is the correct and SAFE way to make edits. Learn it. Know it. Live it.

Other Notes

You get three different types of intros to the new kids. The bandit, witch/warlock, vampire and afflicted kids typically greet you with "what am I going to do?", etc. due to you having to slaughter all the hostiles around them. That sort of greeting made the most sense. Other kids are just lukewarm to your presence. These will accept an offer to adopt, if you meet the normal game conditions for adoption, but otherwise will give you a generic greeting. The Stormcloak kids are an example. You may or may not be friendly to Stormcloaks, and I didn't want to modify vanilla greetings to check for that. I'm trying to keep this simple for compatibility reasons. And finally, some kids have no interest or need for adoption at all.

Highly Recommended

If you like this mod, you will want these too:

Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions
Dragons Keep

Q: Why am I seeing purple hair/eyes/etc. on some kids?
A: Download the latest version of TKAA Renewal.

Q: Where can I find the new kids?
A: There are way too many to list, besides, they are meant to be fully random encounters. Get out and explore the wilderness. You'll find them. I tried to place them in areas that made sense.

Q: Can I gift the new armors to my adopted kids?
A: No. I also removed the follower capability for compatibility reasons. You will have to use an npc outfit or follower manager. If you set them as a follower in NFF, AFT, etc, they will auto-equip the best armor you give them, just like any other follower. Same warning as in the base mod - DO NOT TRY TO GIVE THESE KIDS PHYSICS ENABLED ADULT ARMORS. BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN. ON PURPOSE. You also need Relationship Dialogue Overhaul or RDO light for the follower dialogue.

Q: I miss the old clothes options you had. Will you bring them back?
A: TBD. Papyrus was showing odd error messages for the scripts (which were modified Hearthfire gifting scripts). No one was able to explain to me what the errors meant, if anything (many of the game's own included scripts give various Papyrus errors as well). I removed them out of an abundance of caution.

Q: Are these kids killable, or will they try to kill me?
A: No, and no.

Q: No killable kids, waaaaaah. I want to kill kids, you know, for immersion. Especially the bratty ones - like the Dragonsreach kids or Braith.
A: Sorry, can't help you.

Q: But, the cute little toddlers! What happened to them?
A: They will be returning in a separate standalone mod, so you can add toddlers to the game alongside any kid mod or no kid mod.

Credits:

Please see the TKAA page for credits, most of the relevant assets and credits are there. But a special thanks to the KS Hairdos team (again) for the new hair assets I used  (and in most cases heavily modified to fit these kids). Same goes for a lot of the added armors here that were borrowed from Skykids by en_hawk (which has blanket permissions for use per a forum post). Again, in most cases I made modifications of these, like bone re-weighting or fitment adjustments. Bad Dog for the Lykaios kid stuff I edited. hisssa for the black cat. theru for the Satyr assets. vicn for the Gynoid body. TDN Equipable Horns by Nightshade. Character Mod Resource Pack by nuska. Angelic Halos and Demonic Horns by volvaga0. I try to only use things with open permissions, barring that I request specific permission. I do my best to remember to credit everyone, but this mod has a LOT of moving parts, so if I missed something/someone/specific permission request, please let me know.

And finally, Bethesda, for producing a classic game that people will probably still be modding far into the future. I know I will.

Permissions:

My mods are always open permission. Sharing is caring. Assets mentioned that I use and modify belong to their original creators. Feel free to do any translations, patches or ports to xbox, etc. Or other similar plugins to TKAA, for that matter.
