Thanks for all the downloads, comments and endorsements!
I've updated the mod with a few changes:
- In your sound settings ingame, you're now able to change the volume of the crows - you can even make them shut up if you think the sound is annoying. - There's only one version now. So weather you use USLEEP or not this file should work. - Changed the LODs to use full model. This requires DynDOLOD 3.0 ver. 40 or newer! The reason for this is that the previous LODs had syncronized flapping of wings. Using the full model solves this and it looks 10 times better imo. - Added a couple of crows over Highmoon Hall per request from grasum
Odinsmods has been very helpful with the volume slider and the LODs, so go try his awesome mods as well if you haven't already.
You see, the circumstances are quite odd. The cell loads safely. I exit Riften, and I can see the crows patroling the sky over the Riften Stables area. Everything looks normal (except for the fps rate which is always low in my game). One can expect CTD on loading cell, but this is not the case. Game crashes as soon as I walk a few cells away from that area. I am too far from being an expert. But it looks to me like a cell buffer procedure suffers with Flying Crows installed. Looks like a memory limit hitting or something. But with no freezing, no exceptional lagging, you know, just CTD. I am not aware of how your crows are supposed to purge themselves once you leave their habitation area and move to other worldspace cells, when are they supposed to disappear, and what's the mechanism for that. It just looks to me like CTD has something to do with that mechanism.
Again, there were a sequence of 3 CTDs in a row. And no CTD once I got your mod uninstalled. So, it looks to me pretty much like the issue is connected to your mod somehow.
On the other hand, if you haven't been receiving any reports on CTDs except for mine, that means no one have been experiencing such issues. So, you probably have no reason for concerns.
Now that I said everything I am pretty sure it's just memory issues. I can vaguely remember similar problems with flora overhauls, Tamriel Reloaded HD, etc... So, don't mind my post. Feel free to delete it.
Thanks for getting back! I'll leave your comment in case someone else has similar issues.
If it's because the flocks are too big or you have too little memory in cvertain places, you can always delete the records from this mod in places like Riften in xEdit.
Yes, like I wonder why the Seagulls of Skyrim mod I am using for quite a while now never gives me such issues? Does it have different mechanics, different scripts? I've noticed no performance impact either. I really would love to have crows in my game. But CTD is definitely not an option for me to go on with.
I've been having the same problems around Falkreath. Through elimination, I narrowed it down to this mod. Strangely though, the issue isn't present if I have this mod alone. Must be conflicting with something, but I can't imagine what it could be.
Here's the plugins I have (can't get MO2 to list all the textures I have installed). Other than Xavbio's ported armor re-textures, I'm not running any graphics mods I haven't used for a long time. Removing my graphics mad no difference anyway, along with all the creature mods other than the crows. Literally only removing this mod makes a difference. Anyway, here's my plugins:

And yes, the load order is still a work in progress. in particular I need to get wyrbash or TES5Edit working so I can make a bash patch (switched to linux recently, so getting things to work is a bit complicated).
Screwing around with it a bit more, it may be a script issue. The game can only handle so many scripts, and I'm not running anything I know to be script-heavy (though I am running the halloween overhaul for the first time ever, I really don't know what to expect, I don't even know what to expect in terms of compatibility). I only have 3 mcms. One is for imaginator, another skyui, and the third minty lightning.
That said, I seem to have solved the problem by installing Safety Load. Also, I seemed to be getting the crashes/freezes when I entered the spots that the crows are flying over. Perhaps all this could be a clue to what's going wrong? As I said, I suspect script overload, which as a long-time Frostfall user I am well familiar with.
How difficult would it be for me to add crows to another location? Im familiar with modding basics and I understand the CK. I want to add crows to an area in the Shadow of Morrowind mod. I don’t care about lore. I have my own lore. I live in a vast open ash field. I think it would add to the atmosphere to have crows in the air as a bit of a marker. Is it as simple as basically copying a spawn point in the SoM.ESM or are there scripts involved? Its only for me. I wouldn’t upload it.
Is this still relevant or have you moved on? It very simple to add crows to specific locations when you know how to do it, so let me know if you want a bit of guidance.
Im also coming here from the SE page hoping to find out how to add these to new locations. I want to sprinkle them around my new worlds mods like Rigmor of Cyrodiil and Beyond Reach and Midwood isle. Ive tried just grabbing the MSTT crow flocks and dropping them into the worlds but when I go there, nothing is there. Have I done something wrong?
It really is that simple and should work. If you want the script running on them to make them only appear at certain times, then it's a bit more complicated. If you're interested I can write a small guide when I have time.
Just note, that if you add several crows you want to use the silent crow for most of them. Only use 1 flock crow if you add +30 crows somewhere. It's a single crow with the flock sound attatched to it. (check the flock outside Windhelm for reference).
Oh I only added the flock maybe thats what I did lol maybe I just added sound markers or something. I didn't see any crows appear in the kit it did just look like a massive ball of nothing with the frame around it lol.
Try adding 4-5 "silent" crows and then 1 of the other crows with a sound attached to it. Remember to rotate the crows a bit so they don't all fly the same pattern - it will look much better.
Is the one with the sound attached important to them appearing? I've been trying to add them to the Beyond Reach and Rigmor of Cyrodiil world spaces for a while now and ive tried flocks and single silent crows and every combination, im also trying to add seagulls of Skyrim at the same time and ive tried adding the sound markers in and everything and they still don't show up, im completely lost at this point lol.
This may just be a gripe with me but wouldn't it not make sense for the crows to be out and about when its snowing or there's a blizzard?
For that reason do you intend to at some point add a update that will prevent them from appearing out in the snow (or at least add a modular addition allowing us to ensure that doesn't happen?)
wait, they still show even when heavily snowing? hmm didn't know that. yeah be great if they didn't. maybe some tweak like how nighttime is acknowledged
Seagulls of Skyrim use our script. As it says in the mod description, we already have the crows only appear during certain periods of the day. All crows are "off" between 21:00 in the evening until 6:00 in the morning.
We tried to do a script to make the crows go away during bad weather, but our scripting skills failed, sadly. If someone have the skills do do this and it won't be too heavy I'll be happy to implement it into the mod.
Could you make it so that if you've had a particularly bad day murdering - health below 50%, say - then a crow will take a dump on the Dragonborn's armour just as he goes home to Whiterun.
Could it be possible to add crows over Highmoon Hall in Morthal? It would be really cool since Jarl Idgrod Ravencrone is supposed to be a seer and have visions. Crows over her hall could add an extra creepy/mystic effect. And they could be a bit high so they don't clip into the great Cities of the North Morthal mod https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/34168
Good mod yourself, but I wouldn't recommend Birds of Skyrim. There is no other mod that I've tried that has bloated my save file more, and slowed down the game due to script lag, than Birds of Skyrim. It sadly isn't worth it, even with Ruhadre's patch. I used it for years, before finally cutting it and fixing everything.

Enjoy!
This plugin is for those of you that think there are too mamy crows in this mod - if you're one of those then go give it a try!
Flying Crows Lite
Additional info:
Mod istalled midgame while in Riften. Low end PC, performance issues.

Mod is very beautiful. Significant immersion boost. It's a pitty I had to uninstall it.
Do you have any idea what might be conflicting?

If you use MO2, could you try making a new profile and run the game ONLY with Flying Crows enabled and see if you still crash?
You're the only 2 guys who has reported CTD, so I don't have a lot to go on to help you.

Amazing mod btw!! :D

And that could also reduce the memory impact in certain places (like Mr. Skybroom report)

Added exactly what I was looking for!!
Thanks for sharing!
I just started a new job here May 1st and I'm totally wrecked when I get home at night, so I have no idea when I'll get to it though.
