BARBARIAN HERO readme

Follow in the arthritic footsteps of Terry Pratchett's Cohen the Barbarian or the somewhat younger path of Howard's Conan. This mod includes two new character races: Ancient Barbarian Hero (for elderly warriors who have survived to old age because they are very, very good at not getting killed) and Barbarian Hero (for fans of Conan). You will find some beginning equipment in a knapsack by the Guardian Stones; the knapsack does not re-spawn, so it also provides safe storage.

NOTES:
This mod is designed for characters specializing in two-handed combat, one-handed combat, and light armor. In the knapsack by the Guardian Stones you'll find barbarian armor, sturdy boots, and a greatsword and battleaxe. You'll also find eyepatches if you want them; these depend on Ceekay9's Bandit Eyepatch mod, which should be present to use the eyepatches. (See Credits.)
A complete set of light barbarian armor can be crafted, keyed to steel smithing and fully temperable. It includes barbarian hero armor (or an alternative fully temperable leather cuirass), sturdy boots, light bracers, and a light helmet.
All combat and thief skills are appropriate for this character style, but magic use isn't likely. (In the sources, barbarian heroes and sorcerers are usually mortal enemies.) This is a problem if you want to gain smithing skills, as without high enchanting skill you can't make your own smithing equipment. However, rings, necklaces, and gauntlets of smithing through Peerless capability are available in the vanilla game; and I've added two sets of Peerless Smithing armor in the Tower of Mzark.

EXTRAS:
The graphics for the Ancient Barbarian Hero are inspired by the Discworld artwork of Paul Kidby. With that in mind, you can craft a "Tough Barbarian Skull" as an alternative to the helmet; it's identical in function to the light helmet, but isn't visible in-game. You can also craft a cane, which requires steel smithing and functions as a dagger.

CREDITS:

The eyepatch is based on Bandit Eyepatch, https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/1874, byCeekay9 and Sharlikran. It looks like this mod is no longer being maintained, so I have not been able to get permission to adapt it. You'll find an eyepatch in your knapsack, but if you wish to use it you should download the "Bandit Eyepatch" mod and copy it into your data folder. You won't need to activate that mod, but the .bsa file must be present.

The cane is based on a free model, SM_Cane.fbx by3DCaffeine, from www.turbosquid.com I adapted it to an .obj file for Nifskope using the Autodesk FBX Converter.
