Released v3.0 - SKSE is now required as it fixes all the bugs with torches not dropping for certain equipment types. - Fixed issue where right handed weapons caused torches to drop in certain situations. - Added cleaner uninstall option - You no longer need weapons drawn when switching to a weapon to drop a torch. The check for weapons drawn was unreliable in certain animation events. - Hotkey torch behavior changed: *If you have a weapon in your left hand and you are in combat you will drop a torch to the ground. *If you already have a torch equipped it will re-equip your previous item in your left hand (dropping the torch if nessecary) *Otherwise you will just equip a torch. - If you are sneaking when you pick up a torch on the ground you will not auto equip it.
What would be the upgrade process from v2? Setting the variable DropLitTorchUninstall to 1 as per the instructions on the Description page returns an "unknown variable" error.
In the regular game, if you have 2 torches in your inventory and drop both from your inventory, the second one that was dropped will be lit. (pick up the first, unlit torch or else skeevers will eat it and get sick.) If you target the lit torch (or any movable item in the game for that matter) and hold down the "use" key, you can move it around to where you want it. I use this trick for lighting screen shots I take when I want something less white than magelight.
It bugs me very much that when I unequip torch with hotkey torch power, the torch is dropped on the ground, and when I pick it back - torch is equipped and lit. This way, to extinguish the torch I must go to inventory and manually unequip the torch, which sucks completely. Glad that there's a safe uninstallation method now. Just in case, I'm using mace & shield
If you pick up the torch on the ground without a weapon in your left hand or with no weapons drawn and you are not sneaking you will automatically re-equip the torch. Otherwise it will just go back into your inventory as per usual.
I get that. But what do you think is the easiest way to just extinguish torch? 1) Go to inventory, find the torch and manually unequip it 2) Use hotkey torch key to drop it, start sneaking, puck up torch 3) Unsheath weapon, use hotkey torch, pick up torch, sheath weapon To much hassle
What he is saying is the same as I am experiencing Stragegy master, that is when you press the hotkey to just normally putting it away (like in version 2) instead of going to inventory it's dropped to the ground lit. When you pick it up again you pick it up lit and there's no way of putting it away.
I suspect this is a bug though because when messing with it somehow ( don't know how i did it) the hotkey torch button actually put the torch away instead of dropping it to the ground lit. But after switching weapons once the issue returned.
I agree - it actually gets pretty frustrating to deal with trying to simply extinguish a torch. Maybe it's best to use the hotkey torch in this way: like someone else suggested, use double-tap. I think that if you single-tap the hotkey torch button when you are already holding a torch, it should extinguish the torch. On the other hand, if you double-tap the hotkey torch button, then that's when it should toss it to the ground. The real clencher is not having a quick and simple way to extinguish a torch - it should be the same hotkey torch function.
Why not take the smoother way all around and make the hotkey the actual "drop" function instead of all this workaround? Picking up, equipping and extinguishing torches should be the same as vanilla, but you have a hotkey you can use to drop them, which keeps them lit. Done and done.
(I use ELFX with dark dungeons, and have desperately needed light sources in some hallways while I fight, so I want to use this mod!)
Yup. All of this. I remember the droppable torches mod for oblivion being perfect. If you wanted to drop a torch, you pulled out your weapon. If you didn't have your weapon out, picking up torches from the ground auto-equipped them. Nothing more, nothing less. I didn't know combat was a factor in this mod, though. That probably explains why I've been having trouble getting torches to behave, its because I'm in combat with a rabbit two cells away. I'll try to get used to this system before I switch to the Simple Drop one. It does look nice and simple, though, but this one is on STEP, and I'm trying not to deviate from STEP at all.
I set DropLitTorchUninstall to 1, got the removal confirmation, then saved. However, when I loaded my game it still said it relied on content that is no longer available.

You just replace with the new esp, that is it. v2 didn't have an uninstall process and is not needed anyway if you are doing an upgrade.
reinstalled mod, same issue only this time when i went to pick up a torch while running with hadvar, i was teleported to helgen cave!?!?

Any idea what's causing this?
