About this mod

This Skyrim LE mod adds an ability to convert Grand Soul Gems into Black Soul Gems during the "Shade of the Revenant" (from Oblivion), which happens once every 8 days. You can do so by first placing a Grand Soul Gem on an Enchantment Table, and then hitting the Enchantment Table with a weapon that has Soul Trap spell.

Description
This Skyrim LE mod adds an ability to convert Grand Soul Gems into Black Soul Gems during the "Shade of the Revenant" (from Oblivion), which happens once every 8 days. You can do so by first placing a Grand Soul Gem on an Enchantment Table, and then hitting the Enchantment Table with a weapon that has Soul Trap spell. If the Shade of the Revenant hasn't occurred yet, it will tell you when the next one happens. Otherwise, it'll convert the Grand Soul Gem into
Black Soul Gem.

Reason for this mod is that I felt there was lack of this functionality in Skyrim. There's an imbalance: there's too many grand soul gems, but too few grand souls; black souls are much more common, but black soul gems are too rare. It makes it too much of a big deal to use your grand / black soul gems, which reduces fun. It's already part of the lore to convert grand gems to black gems, and there's many alternative mods, but I found them to be full of incompatibilities or not as accessible as desired. With this mod, you'll be able to use any Enchantment Table in the game to do this conversion, which I found to be a nice balance between lore and fun.

Important
  • Warning: drop your Grand Soul Gems one-by-one, and not as a group - otherwise you will only get one Black Soul Gem
  • Due to SKSE limitations, you can't use a weapon that you enchanted with Soul Trap by yourself. You'll have to find the weapon already enchanted with Soul Trap somewhere in Skyrim world.
  • Works well with bound weapons
  • Here's Skyrim Special Edition version of the mod

Compatibility:
  • Should not have any compatibility issues. We are simply adding a script to the Enchantment Table.
  • Should be safe to remove the mod.

Required: SKSE 1.7.3

Have fun!
