And it was great to see Morticia again lately, I missed her
I had thought to resurrect the story of Morticia, but I would have to start with a synopsis to recreate the context of her past life and the unfortunate method of her becoming a vampiress and you may remember that would make for purely adult reading, so I haven't really plucked up the courage to do it.
Edit: Well, it is about 6 hours later, so I thought I better take a break and come back here. It is getting late, and I still need to go spend a bit of time with Alex, because no matter what - I do that every day for at least a short time. Haha, sorry, rambling already!
I really like her story, it was a bit unexpected - but it certainly explained the change in her appearance. When I read it, I thought to myself... old MB got her with the rolling back the years ploy. Then I thought a bit and had to admit, getting all of my hair back and in the original color... I would be tempted as well. I do not think I would yield to that tempation, but I do miss having all my hair. That said, I have not had it cut since covid... so it IS getting very long in the back, like it was in the good old days. But the top... well... not so much. So anyway... I don't blame her so much for her choice after thinking about that.
Interesting story, made me think, and truth be told, I am in part happy she made the choice she did, because seeing her in the latter part of the set. Now to be very clear, she looked great before the change too! But as I think you may have noticed, I like my girls younger than you do. That says a lot more about me, than it does about you, I think. And before you judge me to harshly (I don't think you will), please remember that Alex and I are both over 200 years old! Ya know what, now that I think about it... Alex is the best of both worlds. Being older and my best friend for over 200 years, she is experienced and wise (usually), but has the looks of someone 200 years younger. No wonder I love her soooo much!
I am curious, although no need to reply. For me playing as a male character (and being male), I often fall in love with "my" girls in various games. In the Witcher 3: Triss, Yennefer, and more. In Fallout 4: Piper, Cait, Curie, Valkyrie, and... Desdemona (She is not a follower, but I can't help myself with her - she has me ensnared somehow - and I like it! ), and of course in Skyrim: Alex - and then Sonila, and then so many more, especially when they are with Alex and me as we go on adventures. So yes, there is a question now: Do you get emotionally attached to your female player characters, even though technically they are you? Haha, that might have sounded weirder than I meant it to, but I think you know what I mean. Again, just curious, no need to answer if you don't have time or prefer not to.
Great set, my friend!
PS. I am going to blame some of the above rambling, and any typos, on the whiskey that somehow once again ended up in my coffee!
Edit3: Okay, as I mentioned, I added some text to the above and fixed some typos. Which means if there are still typos, I can't blame the whiskey anymore!
I will get back to you on this!
First an apology for the delay, but I've been having a series of very odd faults and problems with my PC and my daughter (who knows a whole lot more about this subject that I do) is beginning to think that my motherboard and/or my CPU is dying. If that happenes I will have to replace them, which means Windows 11 too. If that happens I'll also make the change to Skyrim SE as well.
Anyhow, enough of my problems.
I gave some careful thought to your comments and I think I'll begin by answering the question that you didn't ask, which is "why don't I play male characters, given that I am a male?"
The answer to this is very simple, in my opinion the male characters in Skyrim look like Neanderthals. Those huge muscles look ridiculous to me, and their skins look like they came from a strategically-shaved gorilla. Their lumbering walking and running animations also look as though they were taken from the gorilla family. All in all I think the males in Skyrim have more in common with Homo Erectus than with Homo Sapiens. I once showed my wife a male character in Skyrim and she just laughed. I know that there are mods out there which purport to create better shapes, skins and movements for males, and I've tried a few and I have never found one I felt reflected what I would pereive as "modern man" (by which I also inlude the medieval knights who had to wear steel armour)...I have yet to see in reality a suit of steel armour built to cope with the bulging muscles of Skyrim.
Yet on the other hand, the females of Skyrim (in my opinion) have a more "normalised" shape and way back I found what I believe to be a very good female walk and running animation. And of course you are aware that there's a vast number of mods out there that allow for the improvement of the female form, skin and movement for those who would wish to make use of them.
As to my own preference for playing a female character, I don't actually put my own pysche into my characters...I don't "become" that female character in the way that you suggest you feel when playing your male character. I understand that you have an emotional bond between yourself and your female followers especially and I suspect that this bond may have it's origins in your masculinity and the way in which you both perceive and react to the female sex. In short, it may be that you react to your Skyrim females in exactly the same way (within the aceptable bounds and norms) as you would react to them in real life. This is what makes for a good author too, the abilty to impose reality upon your fictional creations.
On the other hand, as I have said, I don't see myself as acting out the role of a female simply because my character is female, rather I tend to react to my characters in something very akin to an avuncular fashion, watching over and guiding the actions of the said female character as I would, say, a daughter. I think that I actually stand apart from the "fictional reality" of "being" the character that I'm playing, and this, I believe, is why I really enjoy the creation of a relatively detailed backstory by which I impose values, ethics and behaviour onto those females which I don't actually have in my own reality and allows me, as a male, to maintain a...respectfully distant...interaction with my female characters.
I confess that this is not a very good explanation of my thinking in relation to this and I apologise, but I hope that makes sense and I sincerely hope that my comments have not annoyed anyone.
All the best mate!
I find your comments very interesting, although Alex does NOT think I look or act like a Neanderthal. Wait... what's that Alex?? Oh... she said I forgot to add "Most of the time" to what she just said.
There is another aspect to this that I did not consider. I almost always play 1st person (for games where I can do that), so I don't actually pay attention to how I look while playing most of the time, and certainly not to how I move for that matter. Although Alex, who is always behind me, may have an opinion on that. She just giggled! I am not sure what that means, and I am not asking! But because I play 1st person, it makes it much easier to view things as if it was actually me in the game, becoming the player.
Seriously though, while I find that how you look at things, and how I look at things in a different way, are probably different than many or most other players, I find that refreshing! I also think you are someone that really loves stories, and creating backstory for your characters gives you a way to create your own as a writer, and at the same time gives your characters life and meaning, so you are connected to them that way. Still an emotional connection, but not as a girlfriend, wife, or lover. Ha! Maybe this conversation says a lot more about me than you or anyone else!
I am going to stop there, and if you are interested in some of that, I will explain it more in a private message. There are several things in my image sets over the years that relate back to my Oblivion game - many that only a few people understand or are aware of - even if others have enjoyed the stories and images involving me and Alex. Well, I hope the did, anyway!
As for me, I try to balance my interest in all my girls and to be very honest how they look, with respect for their abilities as women and warriors too. I may call them "my girls", but that has more to do with my age than it does with anything else. Maybe it is partly old fashioned, but giving them lives where they can live decent lives in relative comfort and safety, means a lot to me. In the modern world, I am sure a lot of females would find that... insulting. BUT Skyrim (and in a different way Fallout 4) is certainly not the modern world. Hmm... maybe that is why I like it so much!
Thank your for your interesting and detailed response - it helps me understand that there are many ways to play these games, and how we all can play them, and react to them, in differently ways. Thanks!!
Happy Easter for you and yours, Les! 🖤
I think it's marvellous how Skrim seems to be able to allow each of us to impose our own ideas and stories onto the base game, perhaps that's a big part of it's success over the years.
I used to write stories reasonably regularly here in the Nexus, but my work tended to get in the way alot and the time between episodes got longer and longer to the point where I just couldn't carry on.
I'm very pleased you life the mature version of Ailsa, I must admit that I have a particular liking for her too!
many thanks and Happy Easter to you and yours too!
The second thing is that it's not true that nobody reads it ( unless they can't read). 😄
The third thing is that it's a beautiful story and I'm already longing for it to continue.
One last point - I love your respect for women 💖
Stay in good health dear friend ❤️
The reason that I took to publishing so little (and removed almost all my previous sets and images) is that I felt that I had trapped myself into following a formula and each set began to look like the previous sets, there was little or no creativity or originality about them.
As to the second thing, I know you are right that there are people out there who do read stories, but in the past I have had comments from friends telling me "great story" or "loved the story" and all within two minutes of the set having been published, so thery had no time to read the story!
As for the third thing, unfortunately I have already completed the Dawnguard/Volkihar quest line with Ailsa, so all I could do was give a short background story, although I will admit that it was a pity because I felt it would have made a good series of sets to follow her adventures with images backed up by a more descriptive text.
As to the last point, well...you are very kind and I thank you for what I feel is a wonderful compliment.
The same to you, dear lady, please look after yourself.
It's beautifully done, there are no words, only emotions :))
Happy Easter
Thank you for the music too, especially at this Easter tide.
Hope this finds you well, old friend.
Best wishes always,
Gurley
Same to you!
