So awesome to see Grim again :):)
Poor Erik was really concerned about what might be happening in Rorikstead, since things for the vampires and Daedra were orchestrated and Dannee and the Jarls lost a little bit of control over what the cult was doing, and where they was doing it.
Fortunately, with the help of Grim and Erik, Jouane was able to start freeing himself from the terrible forces that were holding him back, it was a very emotional scene! He had been fighting this for some time but the others clearly prevented him from breaking free, and now with the necessary help the good old Jouane had the power to do so. I imagine Erik's pain seeing his friends and acquaintances in that cathartic and evil state, repeating words that would not normally come out of their mouths, like controlled zombies.
Vex is also very smart and took the right direction by going to Fort Dawnguard. However, I hope Wulver and Thrynn will find her before she tries something bold at the Thalmor Embassy.
Another great chapter with very beautiful images, Jon! Great job with facial expressions here
You picked up one very important point, as suggested in chapter 1. Jouane had been fighting to free himself but the others were interfering with his concentration. With Grim blocking them it let Jouane finally free himself. Although it was almost too much for him at his age. Doubtful if he could manage to do that again on his own. Hopefully Jouane, Mralki, Erik, and Grim can come up with a plan inside the Inn while Wolfgar patrols outside.
Fort Dawnguard plays a big part here since this heavily involves vampires and Molag ... and from the very start of Wulver's adventures the DG has been involved at some level. You can be sure Flo will want to help and perhaps he and that voice in his head will have some ideas on how to deal with the cultist situation.
Interesting to see Vex involved, too, she never gets much airtime
And it is great to see Grimm and Erik, and of course the ever lovable Wolfgar along to keep the silly mortals in line. And to keep him well fed of course, and lets not forget the all important belly scratching. Must keep our priorities straight after all. Glad that they got to Erik's father in time, and were able to free Jouane from the cults grip. Although, in all honesty, if I had seen that mob outside MY father's home, any "discussion" with them would have involved a serious thumping and talking only after they were neutralized as a threat. Preferably by them being unconscious and in no shape to be a threat to Mralki, or anyone else come to think of it.
Also liked that you added Vex to the mix, I have always liked her. She's tough, smart, and will gleefully carve anyone up who she so much as takes a mild dislike to, much less angers her or endangers the Guild. Y'know, it also occurs to me, she would also make a good choice for infiltrating the cult, maybe alongside Agmaer. A more experienced person to help keep his head attached to his shoulders, and who knows what sorts of things she would be able to pick up along the way. And as has already been said, some members of the Guild have already joined the cult, giving her a reason to do the same, and if nothing else, seeing who she can recognize while she's there. Be a good idea to see if some members of the Guild are there that they don't know have joined the cult.
Anyway, looking forward to the next chapter.
Grim wanted to give the cultists all a good thumping but they are all people Erik grew up with so he didn't want to harm them, afraid they were all under some spell ... which they are to some degree. Mix of a spell and some minor free will left.
I don't want to say too much about Vex as don't want to spoil anything but I also like her and think she is tough as nails. She also is very protective of the guild and has a lot of experience. So one can't rule out that maybe she has more to do then simply play the role of courier for Wulver. As you said Agmaer lacks experience. She also has a soft spot for Wulver (she can't help it - she tends to see him as a lost lamb always in need of guidance) and Thrynn ... well her and Thrynn have a little history together (in my lore) so she has a certain fondness for him as well even if they are just friends now.
A very nice scene when Thrynn confronted Wulver and found him having no plan. The effort that you have invested in working out the characters in detail is now noticeable in the liveliness of the interactions.
The idea of including the Dawnguard is a good one. Hopefully Aegmar will not be exposed by higher-ranking vampires.
The situation in Rorikstaed has come to a head. Grim, Erik and Wolfgar got there just in time and were able to defuse the situation without bloodshed.
I am curious whether Vex will only pass the information on to Wulver or whether she will continue to actively participate in the adventure.
But even without her, the merger of Wulver, Thrynn, Grim, Erik and Wolfgar promises to be very interesting.
I could, of course, say a lot about what will happen in Rorisktead, what Vex will do, and so on but need to leave some mystery to the story
Excellent screens and your writing is incredible sir!
Well it shouldn't be hard to figure out that Salissa is drawing energy from all the cultists. I suspect her hope is to gain a large enough following to become an elite greater daedra ... perhaps in her wildest dreams even more. Unlike gods, who draw from worship in general, she is pulling from their soul/life energy. But maybe that could change later. For now she is gaining extra power for each cultists she recruits. Course the down side to this method is eventually they die from the energy drain. But mortals - they breed like rabbits so always more fodder :P
Very well written Good job!
I like Wulver and Thrynn dynamic, with Wulver being less serious, creative and not really over thinking his plans like Thrynn does, who made some good points of how all Wulver’s plans could fail. And Thrynn is right because Wulver’s disguise passed in Roriksted but it won’t fool higher ranking cultists and he is not a master of illusion to hope fooling other cultists who are Daedra or vampires. So Thrynn’s plan of making Agmaer got involved is pretty good one, especially since Agmaer a new face in Dawnguard… however Slaissa is bot stupid too so it is better to tread very carefully too.
I loved to see Grim, Erik and Wolfgar again! It has been long time since the last appeared and Sayid was as obscure as always in his speeches but he clearly wanted them to investigate Roriksted. Also it is always wonderful to see Dannee and her team being mentioned. However so far both Erik and Grim had Erik’s home town to visit for it is Erik’s home and it holds great deal of importance to him. And Erik and Grim had perfect timing because Mralki’s looked like he clearly needed help. Erik speech to Jouane was very heartfelt and touching, he was so great at expressing himself in hope to shake off the strange magic hypnotized state that Jouane was caught in. And with Grim’s help it worked out so Jouane is now free! Also it was a good reminder of how strong and powerful Grim really is so even brainwashed folks decided not to provoke him and went away. So now Grim and Erik along with Jouane will have a reunion with Mralki and I am sure he can provide them with everything he knows along with information about Wulver and Thrynn visit.
It was very intriguing plot with Vex also taking matters of delivering Sofie’s letter to Wulver in her own hands. Looks like Vex grew to like Wulver and see him as a friend as well as Brynjolf. Yet finding Wulver might be tricky but she came up with good idea to first visit Dawnguard and see how things are going. The plot thickens and I am very intrigued to see how these storylines will unravel!
Thank you very much for sharing your awesome work and I will look forward for continuation!
I am trying to keep Wulver true to his nature - charming, flippant, not too serious about most things, chaotic, bit of a rogue/scoundrel but in a nice way, etc. Meanwhile Thrynn is more practical, likes solid information, and a bit more structure. They share the same type of humor though and both are rogues with a more or less relaxed attitude towards life. Where they get into disagreements is often between Wulver being more spontaneous and chaotic while Thrynn liks planning and is more structured. Does make for fun dialogue though.
It was great to have Grim and Erik around and they have a few big parts to play in the story. We may possible get a glimpse of Fenrir later. Not sure if Hircine will be around though. This is something Grim and Wulver's teams will have to manage.
Grim is not as powerful as he was near the end of his main story line (the point where he freed Fenrir from his bonds and was rescued by Hircine from the Eye of Magnus). He was at his peak "Divine" stage at that point. Now he is half and half between mortal and his Daedra/Aedra blood. Pretty much where he started off with his story many years ago.
For a comparison - on Nirn, in Skyrim, his power is slightly above a Greater Daedra as long as he has access to the natural world and ley lines. If isolated from the world (like in dungeons, undead ruins, etc.) he only has the energy he has stored up. In Oblivion he is far weaker - about midway between a lesser and greater Daedra and he has no access to recharge himself either. So on his home turf he will be very useful in fighting the cultist higher ups.
I felt if anyone could break the cult hold it would be Joaune. Plus what he did will be important later in the story.
Thanks again for the comment and pleased you liked the story!
