Hello Everyone and thank you for checking out Wulver's latest story!

In addition this is a cross-over story with Nataly's world of Dannee and her friends (although both my story and Nataly's can be read on their own - you will only miss some of the cross over references). You can see the start of her story in The Gambit - Part One. In addition you can find Nataly's past stories under her profile.

For links to the prelude to this chapter, and Wulver's other stories, please see the spoiler below, thank you.

    A few little notes:

    - Mralki, and others in Rorikstead, are used to unusual people around because Grim and Erik are partners and Grim has spent a lot of time at Rorikstead. Considering Grim's Daeric relatives (Hircine, Lorkhan, Kyne, Sanguine, Fenrir), his ties to the Black Wolf Company, and many of his adventures ... well the small village has seen it all. Hence normally they don't react like others might.
    - Due to the cloud fog of the joining the locals probably assumed Wulver had always been one of the Night-Kin (another word for a type of Daedra) and was now part of the cult. Or they were following orders from Alduin to greet him that way.
    - The episode that Mralki refers to was from a story when the Dark Brotherhood had captured Mralki and wanted Grim to sacrifice him to Sithis to corrupt his soul. Later Mralki found the dagger of Sithis and took it home with him. It started to eat away at his soul, making him thirst for death. He barely resisted and he got rid of the dagger (which later came into the hands of another one of Grim's foes). But the dagger left a small shadow of darkness on his soul and it reacts to other evil, hence his ability to "feel" evil in others.
    - For those who don't know my past stories, the Grim being referred to his Grimulfr Fenrirson, Son of Fenrir Wolf, and a character that I wrote the equivalent of five moderate sized books on over the course of six years (over 1500 pages of text). His soul-mate is Erik of Rorikstead. Grim is half-mortal and half-divine. The Black Wolf Company is descended from ancient times when Aedra and Daedra roamed the lands and there were many tribes of man. The Wolf Tribe was the only one not to be corrupted by Molag and the Hagravens. Their descendants became the Black Wolf Company. They serve Fenrir but may also follow Arkay, Hircine, and Nocturnal. Their Captain, Sayid, is a Gray Lord. A mysterious entity that serves Chaos and Order to keep a balance. He is immortal and has many secrets. For a list of Grim's adventures and lore see his story list page.

Great new tale ! Sounds like Night's Peace has Thrynn and Wulver running in circles while they are trying to gather more information...information that seems to always be the same so far. A fun little banter between the two about that plan Wulver has that Thrynn is not going to like just because of Wulver's tone. Bickering like an old married couple.

Just seeing those town's folk stop them at the entrance of the village was fishy enough. Then they start talking like real loonies. Something definitely happening. Sure has me worried for Mralki. He sure risked alot giving all those information to Wulver and Thrynn but he was smart about it. It change quite alot of things. I'm starting to lean on Thyrnn's side....Wulver didn't have a plan and he was just rolling with the punches. Hopefully Mralki will make it safely to Whiterun and be safe there for the time being. I'm quite curious as to what kind of spell is draining those people...feels like they might be linked through some sort of hivemind? I guess only time will tell.

Oh Salissa, why do I feel like she doesn't know that whole much about Dannee. Well sure, she succeeded in getting her into a realm of Oblivion..but good luck keeping her there - you'll need it. ( Well I did finish reading the Gambit so I know that Salissa is not going to be a happy camper on that one.)

Could it be? A possible cameo from Erik and Grim on the horizon!??

Thanks Lia! The cult has been fairly good about keeping Wulver and Thrynn off their tail. They do have a very limited pseudo like hive mind created by the spell that is very slowly draining their life force (because if it kills them too fast then they aren't much good). Mralki was going to go to Whiterun with them but in the end decided to stay in town - he was afraid if he left there would be no one left to explain the situation to the Black Wolf Company mercs when they arrive (which most likely will be Grim, Erik, and Wolfgar ... not so subtle confirmation of a cameo lol)

Very nice opening to a new story.
The cult has really struck in Rorikstead.
Hopefully Dannee can get Salissa's attention long enough so that Wulver has fair time to gather sufficient information unnoticed.
Mralki acted calmly and deliberately so that in addition to Wulver and Trynn, the Black Wolf Company and Grim will now also be involves.
      That should be quite interesting.
      Nice story and illustrations.

      Happy new year, Jon.

Hi there, always good to read the beginning of a story which gives you the need to want to read the following part! I really like this duo (Batman and Robin comes to mind - kidding, but also a bit serious). It gives the story something playful.
It also gave me a way to start my own story. Well a short backstory. I'm not good at writing the longer ones   I used two of you sentences from your notes. Hope you approve. If not, I'll remove them. Greetings!

Oh I totally approve but will reply on your post in more detail :-)

Thanks for checking out Batman and Robins new adventure lol. They are a definite team although Wulver is more the brains of the operation and Thrynn the muscle. I tend to like light casual adventuring with the occasional dip into something serious here and there along the way. Inspired by some much older stories I grew up on like Farfyd and the Greymouser.

Ohh, Rorikstead is sounding eerily like the village of Haven, only with fewer dragons and more shifty Daedra. I suppose smashing some skulls is out of the question for these poor folks as they're technically still innocent but I guess if they get rowdy Wulver and Thrynn might just have to rough 'em up a little. Maybe Wolf can have a little bite too :P

Thanks! Not familiar with the village. Do you mean Sky Haven Temple?

Yea they don't want to harm the cultists - no easy way to tell which ones are,  more or less, innocent. Course if they have to defend themselves against an attack they will but they really don't want to hurt those being somewhat mind controlled or simply stupid and brain washed.

Oh, the village of Haven was from Dragon Age. It's the place filled with cultists on the search for the urn of sacred ashes :)

    such a wonderful read, Jon
the effort you put into this chapter was all worth it... an exciting text pared to beautiful and perfectly fitting images... can't wait for the next part to see whose paths will all cross here, after you showed us some of the involved parties
and I really like the music, turned it on loop, so it followed me through the whole chapter

Thanks! I might have used similar music before, perhaps the same, but it fit so well I went with it regardless.  I don't do as much as I should with facial expressions thee days or even poses ... but for me its the writing I enjoy and I don't want to bog down a fun activity by turning it into work ... which is what it would be for me if I had to spend hours on every image. As it is I spent about 8-10 hours total doing all the images over a two week period - but that was actually fun because I got to go all over Skyrim, find some cool places, and explore some neat mods - one of which I am using for her home base.

I'm always amazed at how well your stories intermingle and fit together so well. Chapters from a well-designed and consistent world. I don't think the "joining" is as wonderful as the villagers portray it to be. As Wulver says they acted like Skooma addicts. (And nodding in unison caught my attention.) Wulver's blind eye vision confirms what he may have suspected. Well, off we go with a number of factions joining  the parade (hmm... probably shouldn't say joining -- mustered for the parade).

This line and sequence hit like a super-sledge: "In another plane a lithe female figure bent over a blood-filled vessel." A well-placed and executed dramatic blow to the head.

Thanks much for visiting Laird. After 8 years of writing (a little over as I started around early summer almost a year out from release) my lore and world has gotten extremely rich in content. I keep track of most of it ... do have to look up things sometimes though

Yea the  acting in unison is important as the joining links them together in a way. A little like a hive mind perhaps but not as intense as that. Glad yuo enjoyed the scene with Salissa as well. She is a Dark Seducer and enjoys manipulating things.

I got some hopefully cool ideas for this story and the whole plot is planned out, although each chapter is a skeleton outline I flesh out when I write. But it helps guide things having it all planned out. I also got one epic role planned for Cliff as well

Poor inhabitants of Rorikstead... I really liked Mralki's participation, he was very smart and kept cool during this threatening situation, thanks to the power of the amulet and also the option to contact Grim and Erik and get help. It was good that he saw that Wulver and Thrynn had no bad intentions and told them everything he knew, which is a start for them to find out more about the cult, what before looked like a dog running after its own tail now begins taking shape. It was also really cool to see Wulver using the power of his eye to observe cultists, and with Arkay's protection it becomes safer.
It was a great chapter and the illustrations are wonderful as always Jon, it's a delight to follow your story!

Aye - I think nameless towns and towns with "famous" people get the worst of it in stories. Nameless towns get wiped off the map with plague, war, or other atrocities. The ones with famous people often attract a lot of unwanted attention. Course it can also attract good attention. I suspect most would prefer being left alone. Erik is a popular guy though so Rorikstead tends to see a lot of action in stories :)

If writing a book I would not take so many short cuts. There would be trust issues, doubt, more time spent thinking about what to say, other ways to get information. But when doing image-story posts with limited time and space you often need to take short-cuts to get information to the reader that you might normally withhold and slowly let it out as the story goes in a more natural and believable way.

Hence why Mralki can sense evil and Wulver has his eye. Besides part of their lore it also provides a way to determine trust a bit more easily and in a less time consuming manner of a regular book.

The cult is to bring power to Molag. They thought that meant in prestige, worshippers, more souls, etc. They hadn't realized it also meant a more literal method of getting power. The big question, however, is what is Salissa doing with that power? Is she using it for herself or does she have some other plan for it?

This was awesome new chapter of Wulver and Thrynn adventures, wonderfully written and with great illustrations too!
Looks like not only Dannee has been hitting dead ends in her hunting of a cult, but Wulver and Thrynn. Although in Thrynn and Wulver case their road has lead them to Roriksted which welcomed them with town folks acting strangely. Lemkill was nasty piece of work for all his life, so no wonder he acts as speaker of these converted people. However it is ironic that due to Wulver appearance they mistook him for higher ranking cult members while mysterious Aldain was away. At least now Wulver and Thrynn know where he can be… unless it is trap set up by Salissa.
And speaking of Salissa, she does have her hands full with both her plan about Dannee and her current affairs with the cult. Her companion looked very impressive while she send to dedicate all her attention to watching Dannee’s adventures in Inferno realm.

Mralki conversation with Wulver was very interesting and it is great to see the references to Grim and Erik story when Mralki mentioned them along with telling about his special ability to sense dark forces and his amulet. So Roriksted is really divided, good thing that Mralki and Rorik were not attacked by these people who behave like addicts after the ritual. It got even Jouanne who is a mage, sop this is serious. Looks like Mralki resilience saved him from Aldain’s ‘charms and now Mralki can think clearly and warn Black Wolf Company abut this threat.

Wulver using his eye power to see the truth was very cool! Good thing that due to Arkay’s protection Molag Bal can no longer spot Wulver right way whenever he uses his powers. Looks like Lemkill and others are used as some kind of energy source, either for Salissa or for something else and I wonder what this can mean.

Vex and Brynjolf conversation made it clear that Vex will look for Wulver and it was cool to see her and Brynjolf opinions about Wulver’s adventures.
And it was great to see Sayid telling to find Grim and Erik! I missed them and it would be so awesome to see them again!
Thank you very much for sharing your awesome work! I will look forward to see the continuation!

Thanks very much Nataly! You have been a huge help in bouncing ideas off and giving feedback as I worked through the time line for the story and how it might relate to Dannee and your team. I think I have it all worked out now - it was good I waited for you to finish your story so I could make sure things lined up right. Now I can see about finishing Wulvers ... I expect it will take longer than yours though as I tend to be slow these days.

Lemkil seemed like the obvious choice. About half of the village converted. Hopefully the BWC can find a way to help them. It is possible Salissa focused on this town for a reason. Either way I suspect she is aware of Wulver and Thrynn's activities in trying to track down her cult base.

I think Jouane might shake of the effects soon. He is a mage and strong willed. And he didn't want to join in the first place. He wasn't charmed (that tends to damage the mind) as the  joining is something a bit different. But he is already fighting it. As the effects weaken somewhat he might be able to break the spell. If he does he could provide valuable information on what happened during the joining. Even if Wulver is not there he could share it with the BWC or Grim and Erik when they arrive.

I also miss Grim and Erik but I am happy they have their own life going on these days as I sure put them through Oblivion and back in their adventures. I had to do some testing images of Grim and Erik in Rorikstead so here are two below for you to enjoy.
