I quite like that awkwardness between Sofie and Thrynn..at least its more on Thrynn part rather than Sofie. Maybe it's because she doesn't exactly have a tie to the "underworld" or rather world of crime (so to speak), like Wulver or Nelthas have. However, I have no doubt that Sofie will find a way to get through to Thrynn..if she managed to get through to Nelthas. Hm..why would the Thalmor kidnap a priest of Arkay....what would they really gain from weakening the Dawnguard.
Looking forward to the next part :D
As for the Thalmor ... more to come :-)
You develped the story very naturally with all those special and different characters. I5 gives a good reading flow and I really like how you described the use of the sight ...
Now I am tensed who will be the friend of Sophie who will help. to track Florentinus ....
Great work from you. I enjoyed it very much
I really enjoyed reading the chapter very much! I like how you portrayed Wulver's special gift of "sight". There's actually a character (one of the four Arch-Mages) in the "World of Urun" with an enchanted glass eye that has similar abilities.
I found it very helpful that you included the pre-story background for all the "players" in this chapter. Very nicely done! As always, your lovely screenshots are the icing on the cake, to an already interesting story.
Wulver has a lot of lore - some of which explains how he got the tattoo. His right eye is his original but it was damaged in a fight, one he planes-walked away from unconscious (his unconscious mind took over in a way). A strange monk like entity from another plane of existence found him (by chance or fate who knows) and tried to heal him. It wasn't familiar with human anatomy so did the best it could. It didn't get the eye quite right as its own sense of vision is very different. Hence Wulver's ability to see through illusion, lies, etc. on a basic level. The entity, fearing it had messed up some how, tried to add more power with the words of making (the language of creation).
As for where he gets his Tiefling blood I haven't said yet, if wondering. It isn't demonic though. Its chaotic, from a powerful entity from one of the chaos based planes of reality. Wulver thinks it could be from a powerful Fey Lord or one of the Beast Lords. But could also be one of the Chaos Lords. It has some resemblance to the Oblivion Daedra but seems less likely but not completely ruled out. It's a story I want to save for another time and I prefer to leave it a mystery for now. He is a true blooded werewolf which does lead some credence to a Beast Lord. On the other hand he also has a lot of similarities with the4 Fey known as Puck (Midsummers Nights Dream) which suggests the Fey.
Anyhow rambling. Thanks for the comment!
Since the way Florentius was kidnapped exceeds the average talent of Thalmor magicians, there must be a greater power behind it.
All this is nicely illustrated using believable poses.
Very exciting, Jon.
I tend to operate in a high-magic world in fantasy games so the mages in Skyrim, including the Thalmor, are more powerful then the vanilla versions. That being said they do have some additional help in this case. More to come of course!
I have to admit, Sofie and the foxes was cute
Isran was his delightful paranoiac self, Dannee would have loved to give a slap upside the head for his never ending suspicions. It is a miracle that he even noticed Florentius disappearance after all since he dislikes him greatly for his eccentrics, while in truth Florentius with his seer like abilities and knowledge of magic is an essential to Dawnguard cause. I felt bad that Sofie did not have time to tell Thrynn her story of childhood, for it could make their teamwork better, because he sees her as some porcelain doll for now.
At least Sorine tried her best to answer the questions, although I imagine Nelthas barely held himself in check for her attention span is close to three year old child. Still they got some answers… Sofie with foxes was very cute and Wulver with his eyesight finally grasped the truth of what has really happened. Apparently Thalmor are getting better and better with their magic knowledge and the wards of fort were useless against them, for they are despicable but living being, not vampires. I wonder about what presence Wulver has felt, although I think I have a guess. Sofie has great idea of taking Florentius amulet to her friend so they would be able to pinpoint his location.
Thank you very much for sharing your wonderful work, I will be looking forward for the continuation!
Sofie strikes me as very determined, however, so I don't think she has given up on Thrynn yet. He does, afterall, have some comparison to Nelthas. Thrynn grew up in the bandit life. Somewhere along the way he developed some honor (this is vanilla lore not my own) and refused to harm women and children. So he rebelled against his leader killing him - and eventually ended up at the guild.
From my view point with Wulver I see Thrynn who was in the only life he knew - being a bandit. But he had some code of honor and the bandit life began to get to him. He was tired of the killing, especially against the innocent which he never participated in to begin with. But where does an ex-bandit, who knew no other life, find work?
He started as a mercanary but then was under the orders of whomever paid his salary. So one day in Riften he met Brynjolf who was looking for some muscle for the guild. Thrynn found in the guild a sense of family he had missed and belonging. He also didn't have to kill and he became so good at intimidation that he seldom had to resort to violence of any sort.
Then he met Wulver, who he thought was a wimp and a dandy. Yet Wulver made him laugh, a lot, so they began to hang out. Eventually Thrynn saw through Wulver's mask to the person beneath. They learned to trust each other and finally Wulver earned Thrynn's respect. In return Thrynn began to question his life style more and more as he saw how Wulver handled being a rogue - helping the poor by stealing from the rich and always limiting his thievery to those who could afford, or deserve, it.
Eventually Wulver went high in the ranks and earned his own independence within the guild. At that point Thrynn became his bodyguard, although Wulver insists they are partners.
Anyhow Nelthas has gone through some similar transformation. Of course Sofie doesn't know all this just as Thrynn doesn't know about Sofie. BUT Sofie is very intelligent and an empath so she has the advantage of understanding Thrynn much easier than the other way around. Still I think she will talk with Wulver who may also talk with Thrynn and then we see if that helps.
As for you guess ... more clues coming in a special interlude story coming soon!
Nataly has hinted, but never confirmed, that Sofie may have the blood of one of the Princes ... more a tease or a mystery. She is however very talented with some unique abilities either way.
I figured a group can't just be thrown together without growing pains. Granted I only have 4 chapters to work with so it will be resolved one way or the other in the next chapter or two.
Thanks Patrick!
