I'm amazed the Dark Brotherhood is feared at all. Aside from the very rare occassion when one surprises me, usually they either just stand along the side of the road in plain sight, or break cover so far away, I can get 3 - 4 arrows into them. At their rate of attrition during the game, they should be extinct before the player hits level 60. Lucky for the quest, the core group never does any work, and never even leave the cave.

I'm with Lydia, kill all Thalmor!
I wish they'd ditched some of the lamer side quests and focused more on the Thalmor. They are sort of behind the whole civil war, and yet Beth left them almost an after thought.

    Nice fight!

Yes Bethesda didn't think this through very well at all. Also, if your character joins the DB, what happened to this co-called 'contract' out on you? Brainless, if you ask me. Yup all Thalmor must die, bunch of Nazis. Indeed, they are behind it and were there at the start in Helgen, so what happened to them there?

That is a good question. Like the snakes they are, I guess they just slithered away when Alduin came along.
That is why I like the Second Great War mod...get to beat on the Thalmor. Problem for me is figuring out who to back in the CW, as that needs to finish first.

Yeah, one mod I've seen but yet to play. Think I'll wait till I reinstall the game and start from scratch all over again. As to whom to back, I really can't say. Neither side appeals to me.

"all Thalmor must die, bunch of Spanish Imperialists"

The obligatory "Nazi" trope is tiring. The Nazi regime was a unique horror in an era where recognition of human rights was becoming commonplace in the civilized world.

The Thalmor are no worse than most European nations acted towards the natives they colonized and the nations they conquered early in their histories. It was common behavior by regimes in that era to stomp out native religions. Bethesda did not have to look at the 20th century to find a model for the Thalmor.

The word is casually thrown around today totally out of context to describe anything not "woke".

I'll use what term I like in whatever context. Nazi is a term I use frequently to denote fascist or oppressive regimes, irrespective in a contemporary or fantasy setting. I use it and other people know what I mean. Please do not try to correct me as I will use it whenever I like whether you like it or not.

Thank you. Its a term of reference, not an absolute description. In a fantasy world the words fascist and Nazi would not be known, as you correctly inferred. Note I haven't used either in these stories and I wouldn't - unless I made a right old mess up of which I'm sometimes prone to do.
