I had a great time looking through the sets !!
Appreciate the compilation :)
P.S. It's interesting to see someone get so riled up about something so inclusive and easy-going lol. I'll hold my replies cause I don't think I have much constructive to say.
But you all have my express permission to attempt to not let me be who I be.
Let me be clear. This is my post and I can hide you. That would not let you be you and shut you off. That is the exact opposite of what we are trying to do here. We are celebrating everyone, not giving them gold stars. Everybody is human and as such has a dignity and individuality that is worth celebrating and protecting. Rest assured that you will be treated that way.
This forum isn't much more than a communal tongue lathering where the ones that "get along" the most acquire the largest numbers of gold stars to stick upon their virtual self esteem fridge door and most of those "stars" are reciprocal, not earned by objective consideration. The comparison to Mr Rogers neighborhood is apt.
No one here is even made to ask "why am I doing this and how has it made my image better". Like, maybe...letterboxing for instance? Do people actually ponder the need for it or is it "this one guy" puts it on everything so I should too?
Oh, this image is tilted and has a jillion likes, so I must tilt mine, while failing to see that it is simply a better image even if displayed upside down.
No one asks why an image where 50% of the display is either unfocused texture salad, or in the above case, an accidental directed focus on an uninteresting roof support, is somehow a good thing to do. I do not know why people also think cropping is something Satan does to babies.
The best imagers here know why they do things. You can copy their work and collect your gold stars from the "community" till hades has an Ice Rink but without the "why" you won't grow in your craft. Without hard questions and without critique you won't ever truly learn anything.
And oh, I'm not an artist. I'm just a shmoe who likes games, nice screenshots, and good renders. This is idle pastime for me. Where I learned is being the "shmoe" who made a reserve world champion, 16 top ten horses nationally, too many state/national Youth and Amateur riders to bother listing here. And I did NOT do that by earning participation awards, by telling my peers that they dare not critique me, or by artificial validations from my friends. I watched, I asked, I listened even when the honest answers I got had me quietly crying in my tack stall.
Adios.
Good critique is very necessary to grow and become better. That I think is where you're coming from. Some of it is hard, but it does help us to grow.
I have my own insecurities and put myself down all the time. Being with my girl and playing games are an escape for me. I love how this event is a way for us to post our pictures without fear of being put down horribly. I love seeing how everyone comes together and encouraging one another. This kind of encouragement is much needed. We are doing our best. Some of us don't have the best rigs in the world (mine), but their pictures are all so great.
Thank you AJ for the amazing compilation! love seeing the diversity! Your Saturday morning coffee days sound awesome!!
And thanks to all the fine mod authors and contributors who made the this week's event possible.
Well done!!
