Did anyone ever think that maybe the whole of Skyrim is actually Clavicus Vile playing with a yo-yo?

Well often I go through a quest and think - 'nah that doesn't make sense'. So i'm having to invent storyline fillers to make Cat's story make some kind of continuity sense. Its the finer details I have to make up.

I know what you mean about not making sense.
"I need to speak to you Urgently" should have read...
"Since I was just here to snatch the Horn, I thought
it would save time if I make you come to Riverwood,
rather than wait here or in some such near-by town
      as would be convenient."

So the BIG questions are: how did the one who did steal the horn actually get through that speed gate without any dragonshout? How did they get past the draugr without leaving them all dead in their wake (except the last two by the altar)? How did they get past the spiders without disturbing them or through that web-blocked door without breaking any strands? Answers please, Bethesda?

Maybe Delphine took the Horn many, many years ago by sneaking in the back door, believing, unlike everyone esle, that Alduin
hadn't been destroyed. She left a note just in case of two rather unlikely events. First being that it could survive intact in that dank,
humid cavern, and second, one of the rarest creatures on Nirn, a literate dragonborn, should happen by.

That would be very plausible but I know that after the horn is returned Delphine says to the Dragonborn "I knew the Greybeards would send you there" which indicates she did it recently, after the events of Helgen and the Western Watchtower.

That's how I always took that to mean too. Time to take my tongue back from it's firm position in my cheek, and have coffee.

And a good morning, while looking out of my window at the rain and listening to Dragonforce.
